This 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S has been modified as a track car, pairing its 6-speed manual transmission with its flat-six engine featuring a displacement increase to 3.8 liters by Tiger Motorsports in California. Finished in Lapis Blue Metallic, this example features extensive upgrades including Cobra racing seats, a Heigo Motorsports half roll cage, Softronic engine tuning, a ceramic IMS bearing, an upgraded air-oil separator, enhanced cooling, a lightweight Aasco Motorsports flywheel, a Sachs clutch, Fabspeed exhaust components, and more. Showing less than 55k miles on the odometer, this 987 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.

This Cayman S was ordered in Lapis Blue Metallic and features the optional Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package. Equipment also consists of front fog lights, side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, red Porsche-branded brake calipers, and a center-mounted twin exhaust outlet. Modifications include orange “PORSCHE” side stripes, a fixed rear wing, and orange-painted OZ Racing wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact tires. An extra set of matching wheels with new tires will also accompany the sale. Minor wear is noted on the front spoiler lip, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the Stone Grey interior has been modified with Cobra bucket seats, Schroth six-point racing harnesses, and a Heigo Motorsports half roll cage. Factory-optional equipment includes a Sport steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a Sport Chrono stopwatch dial. Other accessories include power windows and mirrors, cruise control, and an AM/FM CD stereo.

The mid-mounted flat-six engine was reportedly enlarged to 3.8 liters by the specialists at Tiger Motorsports between 2021 and 2022. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The build is said to include reworked cylinder sleeves and walls, a ceramic IMS bearing, and an upgraded air-oil separator. Additional modifications include the installation of a third radiator, a lightweight Aasco Motorsports flywheel, and a Sachs clutch. Performance upgrades also consist of a Softronic ECU tune, a Fabspeed cat-back exhaust system, Fabspeed headers, Girodisc brake rotors, Bilstein coilovers, and Tarret Engineering sway bars and camber arms. Additionally, the car was factory-optioned with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The seller reports regular monthly maintenance since acquiring the car in 2022, including frequent fluid changes and inspections due to track use. A major diagnostic and repair effort was completed earlier in 2024 following a misfire, which included a compression test and replacement of the crankshaft position sensor, fuel injectors, spark plugs, ignition coils, vacuum line, coolant tank and sensor, and flywheel.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The 987 Cayman is an excellent platform for beginner and advanced track drivers. This particular example was trailered to the track and back, but it can also be street driven with ease. It has a massive list of preventative upgrades that eliminate the usual 987.1 issues, along with the bonus upgrade of the 3.8L motor, which is an absolute beast. It runs extremely well, pulls hard, and also benefits from a recent borescope and compression test. The current owner has moved on to an open-cockpit racecar and is therefore selling this car with a spare set of wheels and tires. It's ready to go as an HPDE car immediately!”

Just to add some context and background to the car -

This car belonged to a fellow PCA member who is local to IconRPM and has been active in the track community for many years. The prior owner is also known to us and has taken great care of the car.

It is being sold because the owner has transitioned to an open cockpit race car and doesn't use the 987 at all anymore. He purchased the car in late 2021 with the goal of making it a fast and reliable track car that can also be driven on the street if needed. As such, it has received all the preventative upgrades that you want for the 987.1 generation - Reworked sleeves, pistons, AOS, IMS bearing, and so on. See service records for the full list. No expense was spared in overhauling the car as soon as the owner took possession of it.

It has been rock solid on the track and I have personally seen it in action many times while at the track with the owner. Earlier this year, the car did get a misfire while out on track. It was immediately taken to a race shop for diagnosis and they even did a compression test to make sure nothing else was wrong. The notes in the service records are extensive, and the repair was very thorough. We do not have service records for the multiple fluid, pad, rotor, and other small maintenance items between track days. But rest assured they have been done because again, the goal was to keep this a safe, fast, and reliable car.

No incidents or crashes under the last 2 owners. Paint and body are original. Radio works, but the A/C has been removed. Heat works and the fan works. Blinkers, lights, horn, ABS, shifter, windows, dash, etc. are all original and work great. Headliner has been removed, and carpeting has been replaced with aluminum floors.

This car pulls hard, runs smooth, and has absolutely zero issues. We did an oil change to prepare for the sale and it is also being sold with a fresh set of tires on the spare wheels. An open car trailer with new tires and bearings can also be negotiated since the owner has transitioned to an enclosed trailer.

Please reach out anytime with questions. Happy to facilitate a PPI, videos, or anything else.

    Thanks
    Niket @ IconRPM
