There are a number of different places that do any level of rebuild from basic to bulletproof. The cost runs the gamut.
@Bigbird There are numerous websites and forums where that info can be found just by searching the archives. If I'm a competing bidder I'm going to give you a high price while the seller will be on the lower side. In either case it's probably not fair to discuss on someone's auction.
I'm new here. Can someone tell me the approx. cost to rebuild the motor and install the IMS kit?

@cikasfm understood, but a “3.8 swap” that @FastAndys mentioned means swapping a 3.8 Carrera engine in place of the stock 3.4. Ruf, Fahrnbacher Loles used to offer cars with these 3.8 swaps. Rebuilding with more displacement is different, and there and there are pros and cons to both. With all of the failure modes on stock M96/M97 engines I would lean towards rebuild, but by a knowledgeable shop.
@G964 not an engine swap, but a rebuild with Nikasil cylinder liners and bored out to 3.8L

The 3.8 swap is putting in a 3.8 Carrera motor in place of the 3.4. Unfortunately the potential for bore scoring in the 3.8 is even higher.
@DJSANDHU Since it needs a rebuild, might as well go a little bigger with the pistons and enlarge the engine to 3.8L. Any competent shop can do this.

@Lonestar67 No other known issues with the car, it drives well otherwise and we ran it through our service dept.
The customer who traded it in to us drove it from Michigan, and we've added a number of miles since then.
It could be great for thousands more miles, or not! I'd say go for it.
So any other issues with the car? What are the odds it would make it to Seattle WA without leaving me broke down on the side of the road?
