This 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S launch model comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior and features an optional Sport steering wheel, 19” Carrera S wheels, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and a 6-speed manual transmission. It has been further enhanced with a Fabspeed exhaust system and short throw shift kit. Routinely serviced and with just under 87k miles showing on the odometer, this Cayman S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Hampshire.

This 987 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features red brake calipers, optional Bi-Xenon headlamps, and 19” Carrera S wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. It rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires mounted within the last 3k miles. Some track use has been reported and the seller notes signs of road-going wear commensurate with the car’s age and mileage. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior includes optional heated seats, a Sport steering wheel, and the Bose Surround Sound System. Minimal signs of wear are noted, and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional. An intermittent 02 sensor error code appears as a result of the aftermarket exhaust.

A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine sends up to 295 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. An upgraded Fabspeed exhaust system has been installed along with a short shifter. Maintenance carried out prior to current ownership included the replacement of the clutch, spark plugs, ignition coils, and PCV valve. More recently, the seller replaced the tires, windshield wipers, shifter cables/bushing, and fluids.

This sale will include a clean title.

Come on people - this is a clean well driving and well maintained car (minus dumbass not getting an inspection sticker). This was the "my long term partner broke up me with so I bought a porsche" car and now the seller realizes he can't be a freeloader in my house anymore and needs to scramble for storage for the NH winter, get it out of my driveway, and put the money towards buying a bachelor pad - and then getting another one once the mortgage is secured of course!

Thing looks great in person, has gone 80k miles just fine, PPI looks solid, and is ready to go (once you get it inspected in your own state). Where's that last 20 min flurry?!?!

  • nhskibm (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@Mjrodrick2002 slacker! That's OK, I realized the day I sold my E30 it hadn't been inspected since 2021 as well. Whoops. Stupid NH and their annual inspection!

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@Mjrodrick2002 The inspection sticker has not been updated because the car has been out of state and on race tracks

@Mjrodrick2002 keeps referring to this 987 Sebastian.

Why do you ask? Well that's his name. He was named by my better half (who names all the cars of ours and our friends). If you haven't put it all together I'll lay it out for you.

"Lobstah Clahs" + Little Mermaid Reference = Sebastian

There's also something in there about Cruel Intentions as well but I can't remember. So whether you identify with Sebastian the lobster or Sebastian the psycho seductive frosted tips playboy take your pick. You aren't just getting a car, you are getting an identity.

@stupendous I have Read that the IMS bearing can be fixed with a lot of effort and if it is done there should be a Porsche factory sticker under the hood with the IMS bearing replacement number.

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

Still awaiting thr results from the shop. If they don't get back to me as the told me they would this moring, I will continue calling back as the mins roll off the auction.
As for the ims issues ( I am no expert but before buying this car I did my do diligence) from what I understandsand most of the issues with ims was in the boxter models mostly in the '05 although the problem continued into the '06 run most of the problems would have happen:
in the first 20k or so,
    Usually in a boxter,
Usually in the first 3-5 years of ownership.

As this car doesn't fit in any of the three categories it is deduced that this was a bering that woulf last.
Also PO was master mechanic and very aware of all the common cayman issues oil separator, coolant lines, I mean it's a 17 year old car it needs some mantanaice, and th PO satisfied all of my concerns.
POs concern was the windshield that I had to replace.

  • stupendous (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@GT3-guy Actually, you can replace the ims bearing in these models. It does require an engine out situation and can be done when replacing the clutch.

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 1 monthago

@WSReimer That wasn’t the question I was answering tho… I know of the low failure rate.. it’s rare… however you cannot change out an IMS in these model/years

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@Sck1229 I had looked for 9 months for a properly maintained cayman s and this one fit the bill with a mechanic as a PO. Had a great summer and ripped the track.
The place I plan on storing fell through

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@Sck1229 Sebastian went into the shop today for a ppi and I asked for a cylinder scope.
I haven't heard back on the results and I was told that the cylinder scope may not be able to be scheduled untill Friday .

  • Sck1229 (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@Mjrodrick2002 Would you be willing to take to some other shop near you? I would be fine to pay to get it bore scoped. Also why are you selling it after such a short ownership?

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

The exhaust is actually a  Re -fabricated unit that the PO put on.  I believe the car it came off of had issues and that's why the PO was able to procure it (for free I believe).  The exhaust ticking is actually from the headders that overheated on the previous car, leaving micro gaps that alow for suction pitting at idle.
As mentioned below I'm happy to take it for a PPI and will likely do so regardless of Sck1229 getting back to me and will happily post up the results.  Nothing to hide here but wanted to let folks know that the exhaust was not brand-y new when installed.

  • max (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

Highly suggest any bidder here has a PPI done that includes inspecting the cylinder bores. The ticking sound I hear in the video and sooty left tail pipe are red flags for bore scoring.

  • Mjrodrick2002 (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

    @Sck1229 Good morning.
Would be happy to get the car insected. There is an appointment  set aside for sebastion(06 cayman) at auto care plus in north conway. If you are looking for a ppi it is $99 call and confirm  the appt and I'll get the car there.

    Appointment under Rodrick

  • Sck1229 (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

Would it possible to arrange a ppi for this car?

  • WSReimer 2 years, 1 monthago

@GT3-guy I have the same car in the Boxster version. That bearing has an extremely low failure rate, I can't remember the exact number, but it is in the low single digit %. I saw a comment from a long time Porsche mechanic say he had never seen one fail.

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 1 monthago

@smithrf you can’t do anything about the IMS on 200.5-2008 911/cayman/boxster motors. It’s a fixed bearing and requires a full
Motor tear down in that case if it requires that it would already be to late…

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

FWIW, I reckon errors in a Carfax report cost me at least $10K on the sale of my 993C4S on this site. It inaccurately reported a re-branded title and there wasn't anything I could do about it.
I highly advise that anybody concerned with the possibility of inaccurate reporting go through the report in great detail. I've occasionally been able to figure out what really happened in a car's history of ownership rather than what Carfax concludes.

  • smithrf 2 years, 1 monthago

Have you done anything about a potential IMS bearing issue?

FYI, my experience with CarFax matches yours for lack of accuracy

  • nhskibm (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@bonus I'm not actually the owner, owner's a friend who listed. I was just commenting that it runs/drives great and during his ownership it's been in good hands.

As far as Carfax ownership goes - the 991.2 I just sold on here listed 3 owners. That was false. I was the owner since euro delivery. They hit me for 1 as my LLC, 1 as I bought it from LLC to personal, and 1 again when I moved and registered in a different town. I don't know if there's a way to know but I see similar potential for error in this carfax as was with my 991.2. I also had errors on a car fax for an e30 I sold recently. What I think is more accurate/important is the service history which has been predominantly dealer serviced for most of this car's life - and having been under it myself and driven it you can tell.

  • bonus 2 years, 1 monthago

    Hi there @nhskibm
Am I reading this right that this has had 10 previous owners?

  • nhskibm (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

I’ve driven this car a few times and it pulls great. With the shifter cables replaced and upgraded factory short throw it shifts perfectly. Sounds great too! To be quite honest the bang for the buck on this car got under my skin and I “upgraded” from a 991.2 to a 996 as a result!

This was the seller’s first Porsche and couldn’t have been more perfect for that purpose. Bid with confidence - this is a stellar driver.
