Available for auction is this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Atlas Grey Metallic over a black leather interior. This launch year example comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission along with the optional Sport Chrono Package, 19" Carrera Sport wheels, a Sport steering wheel, and the Bose Surround Sound system. It was reportedly ordered upon announcement of the new Cayman model in 2005 and has remained garage-kept under the care of its original owner ever since. This Cayman S is now being offered by its seller out of Georgia showing approximately 18k miles on the odometer.

This 987 comes finished in Atlas Grey Metallic and features a sleek fastback design inspired by vintage Porsche racing cars like the 550 and 904 Coupe.  The optional 19" Sport Design wheels come fitted with colored Porsche center crests and Michelin Pilot Sport N2 tires mounted in January of 2019.  The seller notes only a few very small imperfections throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

The black standard leather interior comes fitted with an optional Sport steering wheel, the Bose High-End Sound Package, Sport Chrono stopwatch, automatic climate control, self-dimming mirrors with an integrated rain sensor, and the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package. The original radio is equipped and the seller confirms all features and accessories to be fully functional.

The mid-mounted 3.4L flat-six engine delivers up to 295 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.  An Active Brake Differential (ABD) comes standard along with a 4-piston monobloc brake system, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), variable-ratio power steering, and a speed-activated rear spoiler.  The CARFAX report includes 9 maintenance records dating back to 2006, and this Cayman S was most recently serviced in February 2022 at Jim Ellis Porsche of Atlanta with an annual oil change, new battery, brake fluid flush, hood struts replacement, air filter, and cabin filter. Some records are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, service records, and a clean title.  Now is your chance to become the next owner of this very well-kept, launch-year Cayman S, do not miss out.

@gtmule Thank you for that update. I have been down this road, and I agree with @vwpowr that gluing is not the best approach. I will assume replacement and bid accordingly.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@jgkrislaw looks like its starting to sag as shown in the picture, I just had not noticed it. Its not really noticable from the drivers position, only from the angle the photo was taken. I can have my local guy attempt the repair, but if youd rather have a new headliner from Porsche, I guess factor that in.

@gtmule Typically the headliner cannot just be reglued. This is because it usually sags because there is a layer of foam in between the backer board and the actual material and that foam deteriorates and causes the sag. It would be an easy job to do yourself. I did mine. The hardest part was scraping off the old deteriorated foam. I bought a couple of yards of alcantera type material and a can of 3M headliner adhesive (total cost was under $50). It is an easy job, but slightly time intensive, $250 would be a good deal for the repair. ?

@jgkrislaw understand. I know a lot of people have had success just having the original cloth reglued by an upholstery shop, my guy here would charge $250 or so for that, I'd be willing to just have that repair done at my expense if you wanted (and of course only if its needed).

  • jgkrislaw (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@gtmule You're right, it does happen. I'm just trying to factor in the cost of a new headliner if that's needed. I appreciate your assistance.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@jgkrislaw I've not noticed that in person, but thats not to say its not starting to sag some.. pretty common issue. Im not with the car today but i can hopefully have someone take a look and report back shortly.

  • jgkrislaw (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@gtmule That makes sense, thanks. Pic 134 shows what appears to be a large bubble in the headliner above the driver's sun visor. Can you confirm the condition of the headliner? Thanks.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@jgkrislaw if you look at the 2014 receipt, it has the same "in" mileage as the 2022 (which was correct then, since the out is 2 miles higher) so it appears to be some clerical or copy/paste error by the service writer. Thanks for the bid!

Car looks great. Just curious...can you explain the mileage in/out discrepancy on the Feb 2022 maintenance receipts?

  • MoparMarc (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Looks like the original sale was signed on March 24, 2006, with delivery on the 27. This car might sell on our around its birthday.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@lortone if you google the color, you see it looks like this in indirect light. The paint is 100% factory original, and the color is documented on the original order/sales paperwork and window sticker in the gallery.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Uiraca0 thanks, note the color is also on the window sticker in the gallery. It looks charcoal or grey in direct light, but more blue in shade or under artificial light.

  • Uiraca0 2 years, 9 monthsago

I was curious on the color as well. I checked Vin Analytics and it indicates Atlas Grey Metallic on the build sheet.

    Prod Month: 2006-02-01

Great Looking Color on the Cayman!

  • lortone (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Did I miss something? This Cayman isn’t Atlas Grey. It looks blue metallic to me.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@TRMark the damage you see is just to the plastic wheel well liner. I'm sure its just from a branch or dead tire or something on the highway. I dont see any evidence of any other damage, certainly not to the actual body or structural components.

The owner was a busy guy with lots of other interests. Lack of use is why he let it go to me for resale.

  • TRMark (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Beautiful Cayman! Two questions - Can you tell us anything about the undercarriage damage in photo 219. Also, why it was driven less than 2,000 miles over the last 7 years. Thanks.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@no.radar no worries, its buried in the receipts.

  • no.radar 2 years, 9 monthsago

@gtmule Thanks. Sorry I missed the report in the gallery.

Again, this is a beautiful Cayman S.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@no.radar there's a rev report in the gallery (no over revs at all). We wont litigate the IMS issue here, but I'm sure it hasn't been touched. The car runs perfectly, no reason to suspect any issues.

  • TomBuddTX 2 years, 9 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $4,000

  • no.radar 2 years, 9 monthsago

    Pretty Cayman, very well-equipped.

For 987 Gen1 cars it's always worth asking about IMS status, recent bore-scoping, and current DME report with over-rev data for all six bands.

  • gtmule (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hello all, seller here. If you're wondering what it would have been like to have a new manual Cayman S in 2006....This is the ONE! Let me know if you have questions and I'll do my best to answer.
