We are pleased to offer this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Guards Red over a black standard leather interior.  Sold new in Texas at an original cost of over $68k, this Cayman S came loaded with desirable options including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the Sport Chrono Package, Bose Surround Sound System, and exclusive 19” Carrera Sport wheels.  It has also been customized with an Alcantara wrapped shift knob, steering wheel, and headliner.  Cared for by two owners since new, this Cayman S shows approximately 51k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.

This 987 comes finished in Guards Red and rides on factory-exclusive 19” Carrera Sport wheels with optional colored Porsche center crests.  Aftermarket front grille inserts with daytime running lights have been installed and the lower front splitters are painted silver.  Clear paint protection film has been applied over the forward half of the front end and two small dings are noted on the driver-side rear quarter panel, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The car rides on a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires dated from 2021 in front and 2016 in the rear.

Inside, the black standard leather interior is complemented by a custom Alcantara headliner with a matching shift knob and steering wheel as well as an upgraded stainless steel accelerator pedal.  Factory features include heated front seats, automatic climate control, Bose Surround Sound System, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, and Sport Chrono Package.  Some signs of wear are noted on the climate control knobs and the seller confirms all features and accessories to be working properly.

This first-generation Cayman S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine featuring VarioCam Plus variable valve timing.  A 6-speed manual transmission sends up to 295 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds.  This Cayman S was optioned with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and the Sport Chrono Package, enabling variable performance settings for the suspension and drivetrain. A recent oil service has been completed and CARFAX shows routine maintenance to have been carried out by Mark Cooke’s Euroclassics of Midlothian, Virginia since 2010.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, and a clean title. For any driver in search of a Porsche 987, this well-optioned 6-speed Cayman S is not to be overlooked.

Does anyone know of an easy fix for the worn-out buttons on the climate control unit?

  • dfont 2 years, 11 monthsago

Beautiful car well spec'd. IMS is not a issue with M97 engines, should not be a concern. The known issue is with the M96 engine because of the sealed self lubricating bearing that was used. For the M97 the IMS was changed among other things. All Porsche 911 engine's have an IMS from 1964 thru 2008. Can a non-M96 engine's IMS fail? Of course, like a rod or any other engine component. But it is not a known issuse.

@Extratier Unless you do a full
Motor tear down you can’t change the IMS.. you can install a 13psi oil line feeding oil to it tho

Checking back in. Front and rear pads are around the same thickness. Id say about 75% left. Pulled the DME report and no over revs. Ill submit the photo. Thanks!

    @Extratier Hi there!

I do not have the DME report but can pull one today.
16 tires are at about 80%
Brakes are good but ill have to pull a thickness on them today as well
No record of the clutch or trans fluid. Trans fluid is easy enough to do for the new owner.
No issues for IMS bearing in 06. Non serviceable bearing but also very very low failure rate.
    Ill report back.
    thanks, Miles

Asking some finer details in regard to any manual from 2006. Thanks, as it helps get a sense of preventative maintenance that was done and will be needed in the future.

    1. DME report?
    2. Brake pad thickness?
    3. Tire rear 2016 tread depth?
    4. Clutch not yet replaced right?
    5. IMS not touched?
    6. Transmission fluid done at the 12 year interval? (2018 if 2006 prod date)

Nice one! BTW all 2006's had Silver colored splitters from the factory. GLWS

This is a well equipped Cayman and the Red over Black really pops. But some where along the line the original Carrera Sport wheels were swapped out. I love the Carrera Sports since they are the widest wheels (8.5 F and 10 R) Porsche put on a Cayman and they are difficult to find. Couldn't tell from the photos if these are Porsche Wheels or an aftermarket. They do look hot with the Glossy Black finish with the Silver accent line but they are not the very desirable Carrera Sports. Can the seller advise which wheels these are?

A very nice looking first year and well appointed Cayman. Sport Chrono and PASM are very desirable features for this car IMO. Will be following this one
