Now up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black standard leather interior.  Factory equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and the Sport Chrono Package; this first-generation Cayman S was acquired by its owner in June of 2021 and has since been optimized for performance with a host of upgrades including an EVOMSit RS350 tune, Top Speed Pro 1 catback exhaust system, GT3 throttle body, IPD Competition intake plenum, and H&R Sport springs.  The appearance has also been customized with a GT3-style front fascia and rear wing, GT2 RS style wheels, a front splitter, carbon fiber grilles, OEM headlights in black, and more.  Showing approximately 78k miles on the odometer, this driver-focused 2006 Cayman S is being offered for auction by its owner out of Southern California.

This 987 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and sports a Joe Toth front splitter, GT3-style front fascia, a Getty Design GT3 RS style rear wing, LED daytime running lights, carbon fiber intake grilles, and custom OEM headlights with black housings and white Porsche lettering.  A custom Gulf-inspired Porsche crest emblem has also been added to the hood.  The seller notes that the rear hatch will require new struts to hold in place.  Since acquiring the car earlier in 2021, the owner has had a full professional paint correction carried out along with refinishing of the front bumper for cosmetic purposes, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The gold-painted 19” GT2 RS style wheels measure 8.5” wide in front, 10” wide in the rear, and feature a 5-lug bolt pattern with weighted center-lock hubs. These wheels are fitted with 12mm/23mm spacers and come mounted with a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

The cabin is trimmed in standard black leather upholstery and features an optional Sport steering wheel, heated seats, the Bose Surround Sound System, Sport Chrono Package, and a set of aftermarket Porsche-logo pedals.  A Rennline magnetic phone holder has been equipped and the seller reports the passenger side window regulator to have been recently replaced.

The naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine was factory rated at 295 HP and has been upgraded with a Tarett underdrive pulley kit, IPD Competition intake plenum, BMC air filter, genuine GT3 82mm throttle body, Top Speed Pro 1 catback exhaust system, and a stage 4 EVOMSit Intelligent RS350 ECU tune.  The seller notes all work was carried out by the specialists at Porsche Santa Clarita and Mini Corsa of North Hollywood. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the ride height has been lowered and stiffened with a set of H&R Sport springs.  Recent service includes an oil change and replacement of the mass airflow sensor. CARFAX also shows the water pump to have been replaced by All German Auto in June of 2021. The engine cover was painted under prior ownership and there is no record of an IMS bearing upgrade. Invoices are said to be available for all work carried out under the current ownership.

This sale will include a clean title.  For any discerning driver, this generously upgraded RS350-spec Cayman S offers a substantial value.

@LongPlay I have only done one track day and that was following all of the mods so I don't have a comparison there. However with the spirited driving that I did before and after there is a very big difference. The car feels much more planted than before. And even prior to that the car is very well planted. Just as a side note, I had a professional driver with me the day of the track day we did not go hard that day.

@the 997enthusiast - have you tracked the car? If so did you notice large difference with rear wing?

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Correction**** The Tank Vent Valve is what was recently replaced. There was no issue with the MAF. The MAF was not replaced****

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Jhouston1911 Yes! It is. I confirmed that when I purchased the car and have paid close attention to it since. It has not gotten any worse since I purchased it. It just wasn't a priority for me since I can't see it unless I look for it. I did check and any upholstery place could do the fix for a pretty low cost.

  • Jhouston1911 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Can you confirm if the headliner behind the driver seat is falling?

@Bear Great question. I understand there is a constant debate regarding IMS. For me, it isn't a large enough of concern like the forums make it out to be. Less than 10% of cars will need it replaced (that coming from a Certified Tech at Porsche). I trust the techs so despite what a lot of the debate may be about, I haven't been proven wrong, yet. I hope that answer will suffice!

What’s the estimated hp with all these upgrades and tunes?

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@MontrealG I can't speak for the any owner previous to the owner I purchased the car from. No accidents under his ownership or mine. Not a fender bender, dings, etc. However, I had the car inspected by Porsche after purchasing and they did not notify me of any areas that looked as if they could have been damaged by an accident so I am confident this a true clean title car.

The Carfax says there is no accidents do you know if the previous owner or you had any sort of fender bender’s or something More important that was not placed on Carfax?

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

We’re getting down to the nitty gritty y’all. Any questions that come up please feel free to send my way. As mentioned previously in case it was missed: ALL OEM parts that I have (which is essentially everything) will come with the purchase. Thanks for showing interest!

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@twickes40 A DME has not been done but at the buyers request I’m happy to have the dealership complete one. The car is being sold to help fund the purchase of an investment property.

  • twickes40 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Good looking Cayman. Why is the car being sold? Also, is there a DME report available?

@AJSmith No problem at all :)

  • AJSmith (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Thanks for all the info, I apologize for the typo in my previous question.

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@AJSmith Of course! Yes I have all stock parts that will be included with the sale. I have every stock part with the exception of tires on the OEM 19" Carrera S wheels. So plenum, pulley, throttle body, etc. And the tune is super easy to remove. Just plug in to the OBD II port and its almost instant.

  • AJSmith (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Thanks for the info. Do you have the stock intake plenum? Is the tune dinner with a programmer and could it be set back to stock?

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@AJSmith I used mobile oil which is what Porsche uses on their vehicles. The previous owner I know used motul. So when I bought the car I had the oil changed and have used mobile ever since. There has not been an oil analysis done. Im happy to have one done if the reserve is met. The mods are not smog legal in CA. However I can help with that.

  • AJSmith (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Car looks fantastic. I had two questions. First, what oil has been used and has an oil analysis been done recently? Second, are the modifications to the engine smog legal in California?

I've seen and heard this car in person and spoken with the current owner. He is a total *enthusiast* and the type of person you want to buy a car from. New owner will not be disappointed. The car sounds as good as it looks!

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 11 monthsago

@the997enthusiast All I’m say is the buyer can buy with more confidence since failure rate is less than 1%. If a dealer will do that or try that it’s a first hearing that

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

UPDATE: The winning bid will also be taking home all OEM parts that I have. This includes:
Oem 19” Carrera S wheels (no tires), oem wing, oem front splitter (two piece), oem springs, additional oem chrome-housing headlights, oem exhaust, oem pulley, oem, throttle body.

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@GT3-guy that’s definitely understandable but I really trust Porsche and their techs. Anyone interested should see the article gt3-guy is referencing and talk to your Porsche dealers if you are on the fence. Thanks gt3-guy!

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 11 monthsago

@the997enthusiast I can’t attach the article from LN Engineering but it says not to attempt that because of contaminants…

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@tian647 correct like Gt3 guy said, the struts need to be upgraded to hold it open. The wing will not budge at any speed :)

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 11 monthsago

@tian647 It means the wings added weight requires the stronger struts to hold it open.. I got them with the NR-GT3 wing… also if you remove the under panel tray off the hatch there is a 10lb weight bolted to it.. remove that

  • tian647 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Regarding "the rear wing is adjustable and will require stronger struts to stay in position." does this mean the trunk lid won't stay open, or the wing is likely to fall off at highway/track speeds?

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@GT3-guy Thanks for the info! SO after speaking with the tech that did majority of the work at Porsche Santa Clarita, the IMS can and is serviced in the vehicle. Using special tools developed by Porsche the IMS can be extracted and a new one can be installed without having to tear the motor down.

  • GT3-guy 2 years, 11 monthsago

Great car, I also have one about this caliber/mods… heads up, the IMS can’t be serviced on 05.5-2008 911/cayman/boxster motors… it’s a complete motor tear down on these… however it’s real rear for failures

  • the997enthusiast (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out my listing. Please let me know if there are any questions. There are multiple videos available for viewing as well that show case the car in detail. Good luck and happy bidding!
