Now up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera S Coupe finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a Sand Beige interior.  This Carrera S was sold new in Maryland and remained in the area with its original owner while also spending a brief amount of time in the Netherlands. It was eventually acquired by the current owner from a Porsche dealer in 2014 at approximately 16k miles.  It came factory optioned with a 6-speed manual transmission, heated power-operated seats, Porsche crested headrests, a Sport Shifter, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and an exclusive footrest in aluminum.  A major 40k-mile service was completed in July of 2020 and the car has been driven approximately 15k miles over the last 7 years.  It is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Virginia with just over 30k miles showing on the odometer.

This 997 comes finished in Midnight Blue Metallic and sports silver rear badging and red-painted brake calipers specific to the S-model.  The factory 19” Carrera S wheels come fitted with colored Porsche center crests and a set of Pirelli P-Zero dated from 2015-2016.  The exterior is described to be in very good condition with minimal signs of road-going wear on the front end.  As reported on CARFAX, the seller notes cosmetic damage to have occurred to the front end in 2020 which resulted in the bumper cover being replaced and painted.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report.

Inside, this 997 sports a Sand Beige standard leather interior with heated power front seats, Porsche crested headrests, a Sport Shifter, and an aluminum footrest.  Minor creasing is noted on the driver’s seat bolster while the temperature and fan speed controls show significant signs of wear.  All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional, and a complete list of factory options is provided below:

  • 342      Heated Seats
  • 403      19" Carrera S Wheel
  • 640      Sport Chrono Package Plus
  • E9        Midnight Blue Metallic
  • P15      Power Seat Package
  • TD        Sand Beige Standard Leather
  • XCZ      Sport Shifter
  • XSC      Porsche Crest in Headrests
  • XXZ      Footrest in Aluminum

This first-generation 997 Carrera S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six engine that sends as much as 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission.  The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus allows the driver to choose Sport and Sport Plus modes for more agressive performance characteristics.  The car was purchased under warranty from Porsche of Tysons Corner in 2014 and received all routine maintenance at the same dealership including a major 40k-mile service in July of 2020.

This sale will include a set of two keys, service records, and a clean title.  Well maintained and sparingly driven, this 2006 Carrera S is a great choice for any enthusiast in search of a 6-speed Porsche 997.

@groach It looks like the plastic plate housing is attached to the 2 factory mount points on the front bumper. The plate itself is attached by 4 screws to the plate housing, and the top 2 screw tips are slightly touching the bumper.

Is the front bumper drilled for the front plate bracket? If so, can you remove the bracket to see if there are two holes or four? The brackets usually require two holes to mount, but sometimes the screws that hold the plate to the bracket stick through far enough to also make holes in the bumper. Thanks

@smlobx Date codes are as follows:

Rear tires: 3915 and 0916 (replaced as a pair)
Front tires: 0516 and 1316 (replaced as a pair)

  • smlobx (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Nice color combination. Can you tell us the date codes of the tires? I wasn’t able to see them in the pictures provided. Thanks.

    @WarEagle911 engine number is

    M97/0 1 6 8 6 0 7 8 9 1

  • WarEagle911 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

From what I understand, the IMS bearing can still be an issue in the cars from 2006 because some of the parts used in the 2006 models were manufactured in 2005. Engines numbered up to 68509790 have the smaller bearing. Engines numbered 68509791 and up have the larger, revised bearing. This makes identifying the engine number important for the 2005-2006 model years. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Ok guys this is a 2006, no IMs issues. I love the color, i wish it had black or grey interiors, it’s just my taste. Seems like a real good car. Not certain for me I’ll pay what is going to take to get it because the interior is not my cup of tea.

  • Obelix53 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@WarEagle911 I will work on getting the engine number tomorrow but I don’t have any info regarding the IMS. I know what it is like to have one let go, as my dad’s 996 had such a failure. So far, the regular servicing intervals gave no hint of engine trouble.

The glove box door sags on the right side, but it does latch completely and does not rattle or move.

I can take the requested videos as soon as the weather clears, hopefully tomorrow.

  • WarEagle911 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Beautiful color combination. Do you have the engine number or any info regarding the IMS bearing? Does the glove box not close properly? Do you happen to have a walk-around video, driving video or cold start video? Definitely interested in the car, thanks so much!

  • Obelix53 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

    @groach It sure is!

  • Obelix53 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@FA18Boog The rear tires were replaced in July 2016 with just under 21k miles on the car. The front tires were replaced in May 2017 with about 23,700 miles on the car.

I don’t see anything in the records about the thermostat or water pump.

  • Obelix53 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Homamio The front bumper was scraped on the concrete wall of the parking garage as my dad was pulling into a corner space. When he showed it to me, I told him it wasn’t even worth fixing, but he was angry and flustered about it and went to an insurance-approved body shop. They replaced the bumper (overkill for what it was) and that was it. I included the body shop work order in the photos (look for paperwork with yellow highlighter).

  • FA18Boog (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Morning John, can you provide some insight into whether the water pump and thermostat have been replaced in the records.? Also - were all 4 tires replaced at ~23K miles? Seems like a well kept car! Lastly, can you confirm this is a non-smoker car?
    Thanks

  • Homamio (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Can you give more details about the damage? Is there anything more than just cosmetic?

  • groach (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

    Beautiful color combination!

  • Obelix53 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Hello everyone! My name is John and I am the seller. I am a big 911 guy and so was my dad (the actual owner over the past 7.5 years). This is a well-loved car and I am happy to answer any and all questions , no matter how picky. If someone wants to see the car in person, that can be done. Happy bidding!
