We are pleased to present this 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera finished in Guards Red over a black interior. In addition to its 6-speed manual gearbox, this 997.1 features options including the Bose High-End Sound System, 19” Carrera S wheels, and Sport Chrono Package Plus. This example also highlights upgraded Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, yellow brake calipers, and GT3 RS inner door pulls. With approximately 51k miles currently showing on the odometer, this 997 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Bakersfield, California.
The Guards Red finish is reported to be in excellent condition with a professional paint correction carried out very recently (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Paint protection film has also been professionally applied over the front bumper, mirror covers, and quarter panels. Custom yellow-painted brake calipers can be seen behind the factory optioned 19” Carrera S wheels. New Kumho tires were installed earlier in 2020.
Inside, this 997 features a black interior with heated leather Sport Seats. Other options include The Bose High-End Sound Package, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, and Sport Chrono Package Plus. Lightweight GT3 RS inner door pulls have been installed and the original door handles will be included in the sale. Some minor wear is indicated on the driver’s seat bolster and the interior is said to be in excellent condition with all gauges and accessories functioning properly.
The 3.6 L naturally aspirated flat-six engine makes 325 HP, which is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus adding variable performance settings and launch control, this Carrera 4 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in under 5 seconds. Upgraded Bilstein PSS9 coilovers have been installed and the original suspension components will also be included in the sale. This 997 is reported to be in excellent mechanical condition and has recently received new coil packs and spark plugs.
Include in the sale of this Carrera is a set of two keys, a clean title, tools, the original door pulls, the factory suspension components, and a collection of service records.

As an owner of this 997's twin, I can said with no reservation that the 997.1 Porsches are THE modern sports car to own for the long haul. They are the last of the real driver's car, last of the true analog Porsche. Every Porsche on the road have fallen to a base price level and stabilized for a time and the headed back up as the well kept cars are realized for the value they carry. I am also the original owner of a 914 which most ended up in a pile of rust or sold for for $700. My '73 2.0 is the hit of most meetups bringing many comments. Buy this car, do all the maintenance required and enjoy it for the great ride it is, in the long run you'll be happy.

@TRM54 In my direct experience not 2k for both clutch and IMS. More like 2K for the IMS, maybe 3.5 for both. Just my experience.
@cp0002 That's why I chose the DOF (Direct Oil Feed) solution on my 987.1 Cayman S. recommended by reputable Steinel's in northern Ohio. It constantly lubricates the bearing. The other thing not talked about which is more worrisome is bore score. Some excessive smoke coming out out of drivers side tail pipe is an indicator.
This is a Lovely example of the true last sports car Porsche had made. These early 997’s are very special cars and remind me of the charm and lines of the 993. Surely to be appreciated more and more as time goes on. GL2 all

One other note about the LN Engineering IMS Retrofit Kit...it is not a permanent solution. The manufacturer specifies a lifespan of 4-6 years or 50-75k miles (whichever comes first). So if you are looking at a car that had the IMS retrofit kit installed in 2014, plan on replacing it again...a lot of people do not consider this when buying cars that have already had a retrofit done. The only lifetime solution is the IMS Solution, which is more expensive but supposed to last the life of the engine.
My indie would do IMS retrofit + clutch + RMS for about $4K. If you want the permanent IMS solution, add an additional $1300-$1500 for the additional cost of the Solution ($1k more than the retrofit) + some additional labor to install it. The only way to detect any kind of an issue with the IMS bearing (in the early stages of failure) is have an oil analysis done at every oil change and watching the numbers. However, with the IMS bearings it is not a question of IF they are going to fail but WHEN they are going to fail. Any 996 and 2005 997 for sale should have had the bearing changed; if not, it is big enough issue that the seller should expect buyers to make offers that take into consideration the fact that the bearing has not been changed. Auctions are way different animal...you get a couple of bidders that really want the car and all rationale goes out the window. The winning bidder on this car should have the IMS done immediately after purchase.
This car looks great. GLWA ,any idea of the cost to fix the IMS that the previous poster inquired? LN Engineering bearing or a DOF fix?

Having owned 3 996 and 987 cars ALL with the potential IMS issue, There is no way to know that "it is OK" for the long term. There are two fixes: replacement or the DOF (direct oil feed) system. WOn't go into detail but cars with this engine (M96)FROM 2001 UP TO 2005 have what is called the single row bearing and are more susceptible to failure. It's a lubrication issue. In the after 2001 period Porsche went to single row. The M96'2 like a 1999 or 2000 have the double row. So in my non professional but experienced ownership opinion, it is a damn good thing to have it replaced with things like the LN Engineering bearing or a DOF fix. My 2 cents. Pretty car by the way.

DME.. I don’t have anyone local to do it. But I am open to meeting the new buyer wherever they like and have it done for them. I know there is no issues
And IMS was inspected by last buyer and me when we bought the car , and it can get inspected by new buyer wherever they chose to have it inspected No issues with IMS what so ever

Hey seller @sikhdc5 , few questions hoping you can provide some feedback on. Is the exhaust modified, aftermarket or just the tips changed out? How does it sound? Any chance of a video? Regarding DME and tow hook cover an update would be great. Lastly any feedback on the comment that IMS is ok and was inspected? I seen to have read that some early cars had non serviceable IMS. Do you know if that is the case with this one? Any IMS feedback is appreciated im no expert.

@porsche5k yeah sorry, my detailer removed it when he was doing a paint correction and ceramic coating on the vehicle . I’m having him find it, car hasn’t been on any tow trucks
