A final sendoff to the 996 generation, the Turbo S model was offered during the final model year as the ultimate 911 in Porsche’s model range featuring the exclusive X50 Powerkit and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) as standard equipment. This example is one of 960 Cabriolet versions believed to have been produced in total and even fewer to have been delivered to the United States with a 6-speed manual transmission. It comes finished in Black over a matching full leather interior and is optioned with a Sport Shifter, heated supple leather seats, stainless steel exhaust pipes, and exclusive aluminum trim pieces. It was also brought to the RUF Auto Centre in Texas for a 550 HP RTurbo engine conversion at just over 2k miles. This rare 996 is now being offered for auction out of Texas with just over 38k miles on the odometer.
The Turbo-specific bodywork includes wide fenders with rear side air intakes, unique bumpers, flared rocker panels, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. This example is finished in Black with a matching cabriolet top, yellow ceramic brake calipers, and optional stainless steel exhaust pipes. It rides on a set of black-painted 18” 911 Turbo wheels.
The cabin features black full leather upholstery including optional heated supple leather seats with Porsche crested headrests and adjustable lumbar support. The Turbo S came standard with special aluminum-look instrument dials. This example also features an optional Sport Shifter with exclusive aluminum inlays for the gear and handbrake levers.
The twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six Mezger in the Turbo S came factory equipped with the X50 Powerkit providing a factory output of 444 HP. The RUF RTurbo conversion was performed at the RUF Auto Centre in 2006 at 2,065 miles for a claimed output of 550 HP as shown in supporting documentation. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is reached in approximately 4 seconds while stopping power comes from Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB).
This sale will include a clean title.

Due to an unresponsive seller we have decided to withdraw the listing.
In case you are wandering no financial institutions that I know will lend on this title. Also if you want to insurance for guaranteed value that’s not going to happen. No
Top operation video, no cold start, no driving video. The interior looks worst than my 99. I would have taken a chance but answers from the seller. I’ll pass. Real shortly here I’ll be taking my 03 with 61k miles to 625 hp. Only good thing on this car is that it was already registered in Texas, is closed to me and the ruff pedigree. I’ll think it’ll go into deal tank.
Just a quick explanation of a branded title for those who are asking:
“ What is a branded car title in Texas?
A branded title says the car was once declared a total loss or comes with some other major problem. Cars with branded titles have been repaired or rebuilt and sold. A branded title can mean the car was damaged in a flood, its odometer was rolled back, or it was involved in a major accident.”
I too hope the seller can be more clear with any explanation.
Forgot to ask
Video of top operations and pictures of the top. What is the physical and operational condition?
Questions as other
What is the story with branded/salvage title?
Does spoiler works? Seems only in up position
Any other issues?
Any pictures from below?
Cold start video?
Very cool car, but man it looks like its had a hard 38,000 miles.
Can you post a cold start video?
I'd like to bid as well, but more info would be helpful. If you have owned the car for over a decade, then please pass along what happened to the car and are there any residual problems. Thanks.
@38ZFX - thx for the response.
I’m done, good luck to other bidders.
@Ram3k Branded is a legal wording used by ins companies, meaning exactly that its BRANDED forever, but when the car gets sold to next owner,it comes clean, meaning it's not printed on the face of the title. But some states may still print "Previous Salvage" right on the front. Had enough experience with that over the years.
The number viewers / potential bidders that have asked about the title / mileage issues is now up to 6….still no comment /response from the Seller. Too bad.
PCar - i am not an expert on titles. But the CarFax says it is a “Branded” title. The very last line of the copy describing the car says “ This sale will include a clean title.”
Is a “branded” title considered a “clean” title ? If not, should the copy be changed ?
Thx
So it has a Salvage title issued to the first owner, any info available on what happened? Accident loss? Theft? Flood? makes a difference and it will always be a salvage title vehicle!
It would appear that something was done wrong when a duplicate title was made. The odometer clearly can go past 5 digits. Just my two cents. It definitely makes the carfax odd though.
@RipCity two turbo S coupe and 3 turbo S cab produced in MY2004- foreign market cars only. MY 2005 was main production year for turbo S for US & ROW - 598 coupe & 960 cab.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
Bid in the amount of $21,000
Now down to 2 days, only response to questions concerning branded title were to post a repeat of photos previously included - still hoping Seller will comment. I guess sometimes not bothering to respond is the answer…hoping for the best !
"Not actual mileage" sounds like a odometer rollback or inconsistency within the DME and mileage recorded
Hope OP can elaborate on this...
The listing has been updated to show the RUF RTurbo engine upgrade, and a supporting document has been added to the gallery.
Sure would be helpful if Seller could provide info re the branded title - 3 potential bidders have asked, and i have also asked privately by using the Contact Seller button. I guess Seller must have a reason for not addressing this issue. At any rate, GLWTS.
Love this, and it must be wicked-fast beyond the simple 0-60 time. Cool story that always raises questions around this model year, since 2005 offered the wide bodies in gen 996 and only base 911s in the next-gen 997 format. At the time, they’d tell you that it would be another 2-3 years before they got around to rolling out 997 Turbo S, if ever. They were so annoyingly good at staggering their new models, making you wait if you were particular. Maybe someone else can comment, but I believe the Turbo S may only have been available this one year, or perhaps two (04 & 05)?
