This launch-year Porsche 997 Carrera S Coupe is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 3.8-liter flat-six engine. It is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with Black full leather upholstery and comes with heated front seats, supple leather seating for both front and rear, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, and the Bose High-End Sound Package. Acquired by the seller approximately two years ago, this example has been stored indoors as part of a private collection and maintained on a battery tender. With approximately 29k miles showing on the odometer, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of South Carolina.
This Coupe comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and can be distinguished as an "S" model from the standard Carrera by its red-painted brake calipers and quad exhaust outlets. Other equipment includes bi-xenon headlamps with washers, fog lights, an electric sunroof, a speed-activated rear spoiler, an optional rear window wiper, and 19” Carrera S wheels with colored Porsche crests. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires reportedly in like-new condition. Modifications include "Carrera S" side scripts and clear side markers. The seller adds that a paint correction was performed and notes minor imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin presents Black full leather upholstery with optional front and rear supple leather seats, heated front seats, and interior-colored floor mats. Other options include the Bose High-End Sound Package, a remote 6-disc CD changer, and the Sport Chrono Package Plus, which adds a stopwatch dial atop the dashboard.
Rated at 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque, the Carrera S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine sending power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) comes standard along with fixed 4-piston brakes with 330mm cross-drilled discs at each corner. A recent service is said to have been performed with no outstanding maintenance items reported.
This sale will include a clean title (lien), owner's manuals, and a build sheet.

With that beautiful brick driveway the seller would never own a car that leaked oil. :)
Yes, after more checking and thanks the bidder it has the smaller bearing. This is exchangeable with an IMS solution.
Fully, agree that it need to be replaced. Thanks and good luck
Picture 89 shows the car came from factory with motor number 685 G9 701. If the car has the original motor (which can be verified by looking at the stamping on the motor), then I assume this car got a motor under the threshold pointed out by @Supakev and therefore comes with the bearing that can be changed. And perhaps should.

@Supakev LN Engineering has an excellent article about the IMS issue, which is where I learned about it all.
@Jammerkid incorrect. M9701 engines of serial number 68509790 or lower have the defective ims bearing, as was the case with my previous 2005 Carrera S. I bought it with 26k mi and the IMS blew within 6 months.

Correction:
The paint on this car is in absolutely perfect shape …
of course, for a 20-year-old car
and speaking of Paint, the pain on this car is absolutely imperfect shape. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Yes, that’s a good question. Look at the picture of the label —
L92U is the Paint code.
translate into Arctic silver metallic
Why does the title call this car TAN?
Bidders, keep in mind this the M97 engine with the larger diameter, single row IMS bearing. Change out is not required like the M96 engine
Sorry, I don’t have an over rev report.
Car was never tracked so over revs are likely minimal if any.
Maintenance listed in the Carfax report. I would recommend an oil change upon purchase. Or I can have it done for you.
Seller, can you share with us the DME report showing any possible overrevs? Also, any info on maintenance or repairs other than oil changes would be helpful.
Much less than the reserve price.
How much is the lien on the car?
At the conclusion of the sale, a lien amount and bank wire information will be provide to you. Also, my personal bank wire to complete the entire payoff.
Once the bank and I receive payment, the bank will release the title.
From there, I will go to the local DMV office and overnight the signed title.
Process is actually simple. Just a few steps involved.
Good luck .. it’s a great car
@Eagle2 the buyer pays the lien directly to the lienholder for everyone's protection.
No.
@Jammerkid - Will you pay off the car lien before the auction ends?
I’ll leave that decision to the new owner.
@Supakev If it is still the original engine then the serial number according to Porsche is 68502053. M9701 engines below 68509791 have the defective IMS bearing. You can replace the bearing ($4kish) or ignore the problem and risk total engine failure and rebuild/replace the engine ($20kish). Unfortunately I have experience with this.
I will say CARFAX does a good job of noting the vehicle color is tan and unless I’m missing something I don’t see any cold start video.
GLWTA
Carfax report does a good job highlighting the service history. Cold start shows no sign of smoke on left exhaust. It’s clean so no bore score
Do you have any maintenance records you could post or possibly a recent oil analysis. At the least how about a cold start video and a close up photos of the exhaust tips. Preferably the left side.
Thank you.
Bid in the amount of $21,000
@Jammerkid thank you but that is not the full 12 digit id which starts with m9701 then has an 8 digit number after. It can be found on the underside of the engine as a stamp. Or you can ask Porsche for it.

What is the serial number of the engine?
Paint was checked recently with paint meter. All ok and no change in paint color.
Only changed are 12 mm rear spacers . Have the bolts to go back. LED side markers. Have original.. and side stripe. Other than that no mods.
No IMS changeout or borescope. No signs of any issues.
The CarFax report sure shows the "vehicle color noted as tan" a bunch of times. Interesting and strange....
Mods list doesn't mention rear spacers which this certainly seems to have unless I am mistaken.
Engine problems aside this is a GREAT looking first gen 997. Do you know if any mods have been done to the IMS bearing or have the cylinders ever been borescoped?
