Designated as a launch car for the 997 generation, this 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera Coupe is finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Black interior. It came factory-equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, an optional sport steering wheel, heated power seats, auto-dimming mirrors, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, Bose High-End Sound Package, and Sport Chrono Package Plus. Following engine failure after the seller’s purchase in 2020, the original 3.6-liter flat-six was removed and rebuilt to 4.0-liter Stage 2 “Track Performer” specifications by Jake Raby at Flat 6 Innovations. It features custom forged pistons, LN Engineering Nickies big bore cylinder, PC2 coated bearings, forged H-beam connecting rods, Stage 2 cylinder heads, and a patented IMS bearing solution. This 997 has also been modified with an aftermarket decklid spoiler, a Pioneer head unit, and 19” Victor Equipment wheels. Showing approximately 80k miles on the odometer with 5k miles on the rebuilt 4.0-liter engine, this Carrera is now being offered for auction out of Texas.
This 997 is finished in Seal Grey Metallic and equipped with optional bi-xenon headlamps, auto-dimming mirrors, fog lights, an electric sunroof, an aftermarket rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, red Porsche-branded brake calipers, and aftermarket 19” Victor Equipment Baden wheels finished in matte black. The car rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires from 2020 with 14mm and 12mm of tread depth remaining at the front and rear, respectively. The seller notes the headlights and fog lights have been restored and covered with clear paint protection film, and the front bumper was previously replaced following a minor front-end collision. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing very minor damage in 2017.
The Black standard leather interior features an Alcantara headliner, optional heated power-adjustable seats, a three-spoke leather sport steering wheel, a Sport Chrono dashboard stopwatch, and custom coco floor mats. The driver is also provided with a remote central locking system, a multifunction trip computer, automatic climate control, cruise control, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and a Pioneer head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Following a mechanical failure at 75,652 miles, the original 3.6-liter flat-six engine was removed and sent to Jake Raby at Flat 6 Innovations for a 4.0-liter Stage 2 “Track Performer” rebuild. It delivers power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle. The coolant expansion tank was replaced in 2021, and the battery and starter were replaced within the last year. The items included in the 4.0-liter engine rebuild are detailed below:
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a tire inflator, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “When I discovered the car needed an engine rebuild, I was devastated. In doing research, it became obvious that Flat 6 Innovations and Jake Raby were the experts in these engines and the only shop I would want to do the rebuild, even though they were more than double the average cost from others. The car was TRANSFORMED! The amount of torque in the mid-range, as well as the power through the entire rev band, is unbelievable compared to stock. The sound is incredible as well. A new 4.0 build from LN Engineering (Jake no longer sells direct to consumer) is $40,k and there is a year wait list or more. This car has that engine with 5k break-in miles ready to go!”

As someone who bought a 997.1 on pcarmarket last week… this is the perfect buy and deal of a lifetime under 50k. Wow wow wow.

To those looking for power numbers. A friend has the same engine stage 2. Power is at 417 hp. Now I really want to see what the durability is, I have seen 3.4 from 996.1 original engines still doing great at 250k miles. My 3/98 on it’s original engine is at almost 110k and it doesn’t uses a drop of oil.

This thing looks like such a blast. These 997's aren't getting any cheaper! Whoever takes this home is in for a fun time. GLWS!
@Carguy19 he doesn’t make claims for power or torque. The car is definitely more powerful than the “S” cars from the 997.1 generation. He also addresses every notable point of failure on these motors that he has identified over the years (IMS, Bore score, etc.) Jake is the undisputed expert on this generation of Porsche motors. The engine is built to last over 100k miles with proper maintenance. A google search for Jake Raby or visit to FSI/LN Engineering website can give you more information as well. I’m sorry I don’t have that data to provide.

Does the engine builder have a HP/Torque estimate for the motor/package you got? I read and understand that you haven’t dyno’d yet, but it’s tough to bid confidently over a stock car without knowing the power level.

Still curious about any paint meter readings. Not hard to get a meter on Amazon and share. As for the DME Reporr, even knowin the engine hours are low isn’t the full picture. Aside from Rev Range reporting, total hours help to check against reported odometer mileage (as well as recent rev reporting too). With 22 hrs left, I assume this isn’t info that is going to be shared. Nice engine for sure and it could be a great package but the rest of the vehicle matters too.

@RBradshaw I got under the car and sprayed that plaque off. It has two numbers on it that start with P.O. Additionally it has what looks like a Porsche part number starting in 997 in the stainless next to it. I uploaded a picture. I’m betting the exhaust is stock with a gundo hack.
@Roohark all systems work great. The AC is cold, even fighting South Texas summer heat. The windows all function. The tint is old but there is no discoloration, just a few nicks in the film and a corner of the rear window is pealing a bit.
I just replaced the cupholders with some I found on eBay. They work as well as the OEM did.
I can confirm there was no front end paint work except the bumper.
The car looks great, especially for 20 years old. It is not flawless, but that allowed me the freedom to drive it wothout worry of every rock chip, etc.
I do not know if I will be able to source a paint meter and get pics up before the auction ends tomorrow.
Hello seller, great write up, the FSI documentation is appreciated. Can you comment on all the systems in the car; A/C, windows, cup holders - does everything work? Or are there any small things that might need attention? Also can you confirm the front bumper was replaced/repaired under your ownership, but at the time of repair no paint work was done to the hood, fenders, etc. is that correct? If paint meter readings are coming I'll wait to see those. Thank you.
@sdodger the front end work was done at a local Porsche Certified body shop as well.
@sdodger I don’t see or perceive “figment issues” anywhere. The front bumper was replaced after a front end collision under my ownership. Things are not necessarily factory perfect in that regard. I think the photos represent the car well.
@theiii Jake would have the most accurate answer, for sure.
Seller, are there any fitment issues with the front trunk lid? Passenger side panel gap looks inconsistent with the driver's side.
@Bond2978 I’ll text Jake and see if he can give me an idea
@theiii I could guess. But I don’t want to mislead or deal with trolls’ comments. The car feels incredible to drive. The power and torque are clearly significantly increased and available through more of the powerband. There is a description in one of the FSI documents that well describes the power.
Any idea on horsepower
@RJSunderland I do not have a DME report. As you said, it is a new engine, so I didn’t see the need. I don’t own a paint meter, but I can try to get my hands on one this weekend and get some photos up. The paint is original on all panels but the bumpers and the aftermarket spoiler.
@Mspohn no transmission work. No LSD upgrade.
Hello. That's quite a nice engine build. (1) Do you have a DME Report (I understand the engine is new but wwas curious on the hours it shows for the vehicle and recent Rev Range reporting)? (2) Do you have any paint thickness meter readings? It's very nice!
Any transmission work? LSD upgrade?

@Bond2978 I like the wheels a lot. Three are flawless. One has a small chip on one of the spokes.
@911-wish the big hand is attached, the little hand is in the bottom of the clock.
Wheels look great. Your documentation on the Flat-6 work is great.
Are the clock dials on the Chrono missing?
@911-wish the spiller was on the car when I bought it. It replaces the active spoiler. I do not have the original part. The car is programmed to no longer look for the original spoiler.
I added the wheels as the originals were in rough shape and I wanted 19s instead of 18s. I do not have the original wheels any longer.
Did you add the spoiler? I'd imagine it would be hard to delete? Drilled in and deactivated active spoiler? Did you add the wheels or were they on the car when you bought it?

@TexSquirrel what’s up man, nprest2 from Rennlist here

@RBradshaw I’ll get under the car tonight or tomorrow and see. If there is, I’ll try to get a photo.
@Bond2978 it looks like there might be a possible name plate on part of the exhaust in photo 109, but not a big deal. Thanks for the reply…
@beckreit all of the rebuild documents and photos are posted now.
@G964 FSI Documents are in the gallery now.
@G964 The PDF from FSI won't load through the seller portal, but the guys at PCM are working on getting it up. I also sent them a POV driving video that hopefully will be up soon. The video isn't the greatest production quality, but I take the car through the gears on city streets.
@Bond2978 Thanks!

@G964 I'll try to address your questions in order:
The car has not been dyne tested, so I do not have data for the hp/tq. What I can say is that it is significantly more powerful over a much larger portion of the rev band than before. Torque comes on at low RPM and the car pulls hard to the redline. Midrange power is significantly increased making the car MUCH more engaging to drive, especially on a curvy backroad like we have north of San Antonio. The car really sings between 3k and 7k and the power makes me love moving through the gears!
I will post the documents from FSI and Mayo Performance in just a minute. FSI has a limited network of local shops the will work with for the removal and reinstallation of these motors if you choose not to send the whole car to them. The closest to me is Mayo Performance in Euless, TX (DFW), about 5 hours north of my house in San Antonio. I sent them the car. They dropped the motor and prepped and shipped it to FSI. I brought the car home without the engine and waited. When it was ready, I sent the car back, and Mayo reinstalled the rebuild. There is a process FSI requires where they start the car for the first time with Jake on the phone and go through his system of checks, etc. Then Chris at Mayo ran the car through 100 or so test miles to check everything out. I picked up the car after that and put the remainder of the first 1,000 miles on the car according to Jake's instructions (varying RPMs, heat cycling the engine, etc. All these instructions are on the jump drive from FSI as well as maintenance interval recommendations).
I asked Chris at Mayo to do the clutch and flywheel while the car was apart. He told me the clutch still had well over half its life left and he wouldn't recommend spending the extra money. So we did not do the clutch/flywheel.
The tires are about 5 years old with 14mm front and 12mm rear tread depths. Not brand new, but they work. Age would have them replaced soonish if I were keeping the car.
Mayo did the break-in oil change at 1,000 miles post rebuild. I will post the receipt for that. I have done two oil changes since in my garage. I will post photos and dates of those oil changes as well. FSI recommends the car sit for a few hours to overnight to drain all possible old oil from the engine. I did not trust a shop to follow those instructions, so I started changing the oil myself. There is a document on the jump drive detailing oil change instructions as well.
@RBradshaw I do not know if the exhaust is stock with a Gundo-hack or aftermarket as it was on the car when I purchased it. It sounds great and gets tons of compliments from car guys. My next door neighbor has a 997.2 with the Gundo-hack and my car is louder. There is no annoying drone inside the car, just a beautiful noise. I drive without the stereo a lot just to listen!
@beckreit I will post the documents in a few minutes. The car will come with a jump drive with all of the information from FSI as well as about 150 photos from the disassembly and assembly of the engine.
Any docs on engine rebuild would be great...nice looking car.
Could you give some details on the exhaust system… stock, modified or aftermarket?
Hi what is the hp/torque for this engine? Do you have a receipt for the engine that you can post? What are the condition of brakes, tires? Was clutch/flywheel replaced while engine was out? Any receipts for oil changes since engine rebuild? I assume there was a break in oil change required by LN for warranty coverage.
