Making its debut in 1990, the W463 G-Class was produced until 2018 and has gained notoriety for its exceptional combination of luxury and off-roading capabilities, solidifying its status as one of the most desirable 4x4 vehicles ever made. Additionally, the rare G500 Cabriolet variant was never offered for the United States market. This 2005 G500 Cabriolet is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic over a matching leather interior with burled walnut trim and features the Exclusive Package, multi-contour seats, and more. This fully federalized example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona showing just over 49k miles on the odometer accompanied by a host of documentation.
Finished in Obsidian Black Metallic with a black convertible soft top, this G500 also features a matching spare wheel cover, chrome trim with black accents, and bodyside moldings. Equipment includes fog lights, stainless steel side steps, and 18” 6-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolandar HT tires. The seller notes a few paint chips on the driver’s door that were touched up, as well as a few rock chips on the front bumper and hood, and minor imperfections along the rear bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Nappa leather with matching carpets, and burled walnut veneer accenting the steering wheel, center console, passenger’s side grab handle, and seating control surrounds. Equipment includes the optional Exclusive Package, heated multi-contour front seats with heated rear seats, a heated multifunction steering wheel, illuminated door sills, and a COMMAND infotainment system. Additional amenities include backup assist, a CD changer, an integrated garage door opener, an alarm system, and a rubber mat for the load compartment. The seller reports some minor interior wear as shown in the gallery and states that all gauges, electronics, and accessories are functioning as intended, with no warning lights present.
Powered by a 5.0-liter M113 V8 engine, the G500 sends up to 292 HP and 339 lb.-ft. of torque to all four wheels by way of a 5-speed 5G-Tronic automatic transmission and a full-time all-wheel-drive system with locking front, center, and rear differentials. Standard equipment includes an electronic stability program (ESP), and the seller reports recent maintenance to include an oil service, a coolant exchange, a brake fluid flush, replacement of the spark plugs, a set of new tires, and refinishing of all four wheels.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, federalization records, service records, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a rare late-model fully federalized G500 Cabriolet that comes to us out of an amazing collection that currently includes other G Cabriolets. This G500 Cab is a turn-key example that is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian and is the perfect summer cruiser. This is a German-market example that was imported by the consignor and federalized by Wallace Labs in Houston. It was acquired in 2022 from Autohaus Zanker GmbH & Co. in Günzburg, Germany, and subsequently imported into the US and then federalized by Wallace Labs.”

@ghost3088 Yes, it does. I swung the tire out to give a better view of the opening and closing.
Thanks for posting the top video. I assume it opens and closes if the tire carrier is closed? Reason I ask is because the tire carrier is swung out in the video? Thank you!

@dshemtob These W463s all have issues with corrosion on underside. We don’t claim to be the foremost experts but what we saw on this example appears consistent with what we’ve seen on examples of similar mileage. We could’ve presented her with dry icing the car to clean up the surface rust, but we wanted to present the car as is. We’d be happy to assist the buyer in a dry ice cleaning post sale if they desire.
Hi, a beautiful example of a g cab. I might be a novice here, but does the undercarriage show a lot of rust in the different areas of the vehicle? The catalytic converter looks pretty brown, but a lot of the areas around the wheels look to be rusting as well. I would love to get a more expert opinion to weigh in. Thanks!

@yyaroshe There may need to be additional work done to bring the vehicle into CARB compliance in California beyond what was performed at Wallace Labs, so we recommend consulting local authorities on requirements. G&K Automotive Conversion is a great resource for all California CARB related questions on imported vehicles.
Bid in the amount of $12,250
Is it a California CARB compliant? Can be registered in California? Wallace Labs website doesn’t have that information. Thank you!
@jbauto Yes, it features an electric top.
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you for your early interest, and welcome to the auction of our 2005 Mercedes-Benz G500 Cabriolet. We are pleased to be offering this fully federalized, late model G500 Cabriolet for sale.
This Obsidian Black over Black Napa Leather beauty comes to us on consignment from a wonderful collection that includes other G Cabriolets. It is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and benefits from recent mechanical servicing with receipts in the gallery.
This example was a German-market example that was imported by our consignor and subsequently federalized by Wallace Labs in Houston. The federalization of this car ensures that it is fully road legal in all states. The car comes complete with books, service records, and all importation documentation. This G500 Cabriolet will make an excellent addition to any collection.
As always, we will be here to answer any questions throughout the auction. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly using the ‘Contact Seller’ button. Good luck with your bidding!
