Internally designated as Tipo M138 and introduced at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Maserati Spyder grand touring car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign and features a Ferrari-derived 4.2-liter V8 engine. This 2005 Spyder is one of only 90 examples of the 90th Anniversary Edition produced for North America, distinguished by a GranSport-style body kit, headrest fairings, Anniversary Blue paint, and a special Navy Blue and Grigio interior. It also comes equipped with 19” Gransport wheels, xenon headlamps, parking sensors, carbon fiber trim, Skyhook adaptive suspension, and a 6-speed Cambiocorsa automated manual transmission. The car was originally purchased in California and remained with its first owner for three years before changing hands with its current owner in 2013. Benefitting from extensive recent service, this rare Maserati Spyder 90th Anniversary Edition is now being offered for auction out of Minnesota with approximately 33k miles showing on the odometer.
The Maserati Spyder and its hardtop counterpart were the last Maserati designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, noted for his previous work on the Maserati Bora, Ghibli, and 5000GT models. The 90th Anniversary Edition differs from a standard Maserati Spyder with the addition of a GranSport-style body kit, oval fender badges, titanium-colored brake calipers, grey headlamp housings, and aerodynamic fairings behind the headrests. This example is finished in Blu Anniversary and rides on 19” GranSport light alloy wheels. Other equipment includes xenon headlights, a blue power-operated soft top, carbon fiber-trimmed roll hoops, a glass rear window, and quad exhaust outlets. It rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S XL tires showing production date codes from 2019. The seller notes a few small scuffs and scratches can be seen in the photos and an accident in 2017 caused damage that required refinishing the driver’s side door and fender.
The four-seater cabin features a special combination of Navy Blue leather and Grigio BrighTex upholstery unique to the 90th Anniversary Edition. Accessories include heated and power-adjustable front bucket seats with painted backrests, Maserati-branded door sills, drilled aluminum pedals, blue instrument dials, automatic climate control, blue carbon fiber trim pieces, an engine start button, a leather fire extinguisher mount, an analog clock, column-mounted shift paddles, and a three-spoke black leather steering wheel. A commemorative plaque on the center console designates this car as #21 out of 90 produced. The seller indicates the front seat inserts have been professionally reupholstered and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.
Derived from Ferrari’s flat-plane V8 found in the contemporary F430, the Maserati Spyder features a 4.2-liter quad-cam F136R V8 engine rated at 385 HP and 333 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed Cambiocorsa automated manual transaxle. The car comes standard with four-wheel ABS disc brakes, an ASR traction control system, and fully independent suspension with Skyhook adaptive dampers. The clutch, clutch position sensor, and clutch release bearing were replaced in 2019 and service in 2024 includes a new fuel tank pump cover, driver’s side fuel pump, driver’s side injector, servo-assist steering rack, hydraulic steering pump, valve cover gaskets, and convertible top repair.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This car is #21 of 90 produced. Additional exterior details include mesh grilles, fog lights, GranSport bodywork, quad exhaust outlets, and a power-retractable blue convertible top. The car is powered by a Ferrari F430 4.2-liter V8 (known as F136RV8) paired with a six-speed Cambiocorsa automated manual transaxle, and it is equipped with a power-operated blue soft top, 19″ alloy wheels, a Skyhook active suspension, carbon-fiber exterior and interior trim, a CD stereo, automatic climate control, and power-adjustable seats. This combination of amenities, exhilarating performance and a thrilling exhaust note makes this car a joy to drive.”

@stevenwinter24. The accident and subsequent repair from 2017 occurred prior to current ownership. We have no further knowledge of the incident which was notated in the BAT auction post at the time our seller purchased the car. A clutch reading has not been done. You are welcome to contact Dick, the owner of Foreign Affairs in Hopkins MN, he would be happy to answer any questions related to repair and maintenance since the car's been in Minnesota.
The current owner states he's put less than 50 miles on the car in the time he's owned it.
Can you provide any further info on the damage repair from the accident that is not listed on the carfax? Also, has a clutch reading been done?
