Now available for auction is this 2004 Volkswagen R32 finished in Tornado Red. Limited to 5,000 examples for the U.S. market, the R32 was introduced as the pinnacle of Volkswagen’s R-line family with only 500 cars ever finished in Tornado Red. In addition to its rare factory color, this 2004 example highlights extensive performance upgrades including a UnitedMotorsports tune, KW coilover suspension and an AP Racing big brake kit. Representing one of the most iconic and beloved hot hatchbacks of all time, this R32 is now being offered in excellent running order by its seller in Connecticut while showing approximately 60k miles on the odometer.
The rare Tornado Red finish on this R32 is said to be in good overall condition with normal road-going wear, although some clearcoat delamination issues have been reported as is typical on nearly every Tornado Red example (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The hood and front bumper were replaced under the current ownership and full ceramic coating is said to have been applied within the last 4 years. A removable black vinyl wrap has also been applied over the roof in addition to 35% tint on all windows except the windshield. Exterior features include OEM roof bars, red painted rear brake calipers and original 18” Aristo wheels which are shown to be in great shape with tires dated from 2013.
The black interior is reported to be in good condition with only minor wear indicated on the driver’s seat bolster. An aftermarket P3 multi-gauge has been installed along with a Pioneer AVIV touch screen head unit, upgraded Alpine speakers and a Blackview front/rear camera system. Other modifications include a Euro Kreations rear seat delete cover, a Black Forest Industries shift knob in blue Alcantara and a custom upholstered steering wheel in Alcantara with blue stitching. All gauges, electrical component and accessories are stated to be fully functional and the seller notes that the pedals and floor mats were recently replaced with OEM parts.
The R32 is coveted for its 3.2 L DOHC 24-valve VR6 engine which sends 237 HP stock to all four wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The Haldex 4Motion all-wheel drive system strategically delivers power to the rear wheels when front traction is lost, providing for an enhanced grip around corners. This example also features high end performance upgrades including the following:
Proper routine maintenance has been carried out by the VW specialists at Tyrolsport including a new radiator and coolant flange in 2018 as well as major 60k mile service within the last 2 years which included a Haldex oil change. This R32 is said to drive beautifully with a collection of service records dating back to the original owner.
This sale will include a set of 2 keys, owner’s books, extensive service records, an air compressor, jack and OEM roof bars. Do not miss out on your opportunity to get behind the wheel of this rare Tornado Red Volkswagen R32.

@MC-Leather looking at picture 44? Hm it appears it might be but doesn’t show up as much in picture 54. If it is, I’d consider it negligible for what I’ve seen on these cars these days.
Thanks for the reply. Is that rust spot on the front edge of the passenger side rocker?
@MC-Leather i wouldn’t hesitate to drive it cross-country. No sub box (though the hookup is still there) or konis (kw v3s are far superior even from a ride standpoint IMO) but does have the now-defunct euro kreations rear seat delete kit if you want to have that clean look in the back!
Does the car come with any other parts... like the sub box that was in it, the old pedals, the Konis it had and so on? Any reason it can't drive cross country in a week or so?

@twickes40 the front valance was cracked and hood was replaced by the original owner prior to my original ownership in 2011. I don't have records of the hood replacement but I can see if he has any. The coolant leak was done in 2018 when I had the bumper cover fixed at the same time. This car has a clean NY Title.
Clearly something is happening here. New hood, bumper, and a fresh oil pan. Maybe not a collision with another car, but the replacement parts indicate a story.
@BondsDrink the hood was replaced by the original owner (who I'm still in contact with) and can talk about the hood replacement if you'd like me to connect you. He told me he there was a large rock chip/dent that was unsightly so he had the whole hood replaced. When I purchased the car from him (I'm the 2nd and 4th owner on the CarFax), it also had this large crack in the front valance (https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/DSC04931-1.jpg?fit=2048%2C1365). I left it unattended until I purchased the car back at which point I had Eurotech in Mahwah, NJ replace the whole front bumper, which I believe they color-matched to a side-view mirror.
@Poppys May I ask why the hood was replaced too then? I would like to get a hold of the shop I'm interested as to how far they blended
@BondsDrink definitely no front end collision.
I don’t fully recall but I believe the car had a CEL and I brought it in for diagnosis where the coolant leaks were discovered.
Separately, the front bumper cover had rock chips and a crack from the previous owner, so had it replaced while it was in. Happy to connect you to the shop to confirm if you’d like.
When did the front end collision happen? And how bad was it that it pierced the Rad.
@ghejna nope it’s at our storage facility which can help accommodate.
Any issues with shipping the car if I arrange everything?

@ghejna *similar dyno sheets
@ghejna i haven’t, but guesstimate right around 300 based on other synonyms sheets I’ve seen.
After the mods have you had the car on a dyno?
