This 2004 Volkswagen Mk4 Golf R32 is one of 5,000 produced for the United States and was used as a promotional vehicle for HPA Motorsports, fitted with their Stage 2 Twin-Turbo Package resulting in an output of 550 HP along with an HPA Stage 3 braking system, KW coilovers, 19” BBS wheels, and more. The car won SEMA’s Best of Show in 2004 and was featured in more than 5 international publications as well as television programs including Car and Driver and Redline TV. It was sold by HPA in 2005 and remained part of the same owner’s private collection for over 18 years before being acquired by the seller. Long hidden from the public eye, this HPA-tuned R32 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing just over 5k miles on the odometer.

This example is finished in Reflex Silver, a color that represents about 35% of R32’s produced. Compared to a standard Mk4 Golf, the R32 features unique front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a rear hatch spoiler. This R32 was decorated with promotional graphics by HPA Motorsports along with a KW suspension windshield banner and sponsorship decals from Dunlop, BBS, and Recaro on the lower rockers. It rides on a set of 19” BBS Motorsports CH wheels dressed in new Continental tires.

Inside, the black interior features Konig leather-trimmed bucket seats with embroidered “R” logos along with brushed aluminum accents, R-line pedals, a power sliding sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a shift knob emblazoned with the 4Motion logo. The original radio remains in place.

The 3.2-liter VR6 DOHC engine has been fitted with HPA’s Stage 2 Twin-Turbo package which includes the following:

  • Dual K04 hybrid turbochargers with oversized exhaust housings
  • Velocity-tuned HGP exhaust manifolds
  • Twin 70mm downpipes
  • High-flow racing catalytic converters
  • 3.5” exhaust system with special secondary bypass valve
  • Compression-reducing head plate (8.0:1)
  • Proprietary race-grade connecting rod bearings
  • High-flow HGP short-runner cast aluminum intake manifold
  • Dual side-mount intercoolers
  • Proprietary silicone and stainless-steel boost piping
  • High-flow fuel injectors and secondary fuel pump
  • Upgraded fuel pressure regulator
  • High-flow mass airflow sensor
  • Re-tuned factory ECU
  • Proprietary electronic boost controller

An output of up to 550 HP and 580 lb.-ft of torque is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual HPA Stage 1 transmission (200 MPH+ verified) featuring an HPA Stage 2 cinder metal clutch system. Other upgrades include an HPA Stage 3 braking system with 6-piston calipers and 14.1” front rotors, a KW 2-way adjustable coilover suspension, and an HPA Motorsports Launch Control Box. The engine also received an extensive ceramic coating package. The seller states a service was recently completed and the car was routinely maintained by an authorized Lamborghini dealership while kept in the last owner’s climate-controlled collection.

This sale will include a clean title along with the original owner's manuals and a collection of featured publications.

The seller would like you to know:This is a significant car that went off the radar in 2005. Everyone was very excited when it resurfaced, I enjoyed owning it having this as part of my private collection. Sure to put a smile on your face! A true time capsule.”

Where ever this little R lands, just know it is always welcome to cycle back through its place of birth for service and admiration.

We have many found memories in this R and look forward to seeing where it will call home if not back here in Vancouver!

I would bid I should have never sold my car but I don’t have any garage space

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Guys the HPA package alone was more than $30k in 2006 and this car has more than my car, the cost of replicating this car is huge and then if you are a collector you have to add the car celebrity factor now if you want to Drive it this is a bargain

Amazing! I'd bid if I didn't already have my E92 M3 as the garage queen. I've always wanted an R modded by HPA and this is THE R32 that started it all. Hopefully the winner will take it to Wookies in the Woods next year.

  • Fu-Schnickens (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    This is a legendary car.

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@Beandip83 haha yes I agree. It's the full package. And not only is it an HPA stage 2 car. This is THE HPA car. It likes to shake and boogey that's for sure!!

  • Beandip83 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

“Gonna blast squeeze first ask questions last”

Too bad the comment can’t be deleted. Not everyday you see magazine icons of my youth up for sale. I saw a video of this on the dyno and couldn’t believe how violent and angry the car was. Such an understated little beast. Hard pressed to find stock low mileage r32 more or less an Hpi stage 2 car! Glwa

Best of luck with the sale and to the future owner!

I remember this car and someone will be adding an amazing piece of history to their collection. Good luck!

@luis.seneriz that's awesome!!! Always good to hear about big tuners getting driven. One of my cars I own I've had since it was new in 2000 and it has over 200k miles. And is still a beast!!

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@johannes356 good morning. It is a blast from the past for sure. And just a time capsule.

I'm sure the Vortex will get wind. But I like you wonder too. I used to be very involved with VW Vortex but alas haven't been on there in years.

Thank you for the lovely comment!!

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

I had one of these. Same color however I had different graphics, I kept my aristos wheels. I drove my car I had put over 40k miles after the HPA work. No issues. Car was sold here in Texas in 2013. With close to 50k miles. If you have never driven one of these HPA monsters they are amazing . I wish the car had the aero of my 996 turbo.!! Unfortunately this car is probably going into someone’s collection.

  • johannes356 1 year, 7 monthsago

Wow this is a blast from the past. I remember this thing being in all kinds of car mags. Great to see it out and about again.

Kind of shocked VW Vortex hasn't gotten wind of it yet, but maybe that site isnt what it used to be.

Best of luck with the sale!

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago
