Named after the FIA racing series for which it was developed as a homologation car, the Porsche 996 GT3 remains one of the most sought-after 911s ever produced with its lightweight design, visceral driving characteristics, and naturally aspirated Mezger flat-six engine. The GT3 first became available in the United States for the 2004 model year and was updated with larger front brakes, refreshed styling, and a more powerful engine. This example comes finished in Black over a matching leather interior featuring optional Guards Red seatbelts, carbon fiber trim inlays, aluminum instrument dials, full climate control, and Porsche-crested headrests. It was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2019 and is now being offered for auction out of Illinois while showing just over 53k miles on the odometer.

Often referred to as the 996.2 version, the updated 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 used a wider bodyshell derived from the Carrera 4 along with a revised headlight design, a redesigned front fascia, and a new rear wing. This example is finished in Black and features the optional Xenon Headlamp Package. It rides on 18” 911 GT3 wheels wrapped in Sumitomo tires (2013). The seller notes the front side of the car was dented in a garage and subsequently repaired and refinished by a Porsche-approved autobody center. The seller adds that the car was never subjected to track use during their ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black leather interior is accented by optional Guards Red seatbelts and aluminum instrument dials as well as carbon fiber and aluminum trim inlays covering the shifter and brake handle. Other options include metal door sill model insignias, seats with Porsche-crested headrests, and A/C with full climate control. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories are working properly.

Beginning in 2004, the GT3’s naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine received lighter pistons, longer titanium connecting rods, and an upgraded VarioCam system which resulted in an output of up to 380 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power comes from fixed 6-piston brakes in front and 4-piston calipers in the rear which are paired with ventilated and cross-drilled discs at each corner. Apart from anti-lock brakes (ABS), the 996 GT3 is without any electronic control systems to assist the driver. The seller notes that routine service has been kept up to date per the manufacturer's recommended intervals and that both front struts were recently replaced along with a wheel alignment.

This sale will include the original window sticker and owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “It was a dream come true to own this Porsche Supercar that came to be in 2004. It truly checked all the boxes for me and it has been a joy to drive for the past four years.”

@Clubracer6 Between the holiday and a family member who just had open heart surgery I am unfortunately not as attentive to this auction as I would have been under other circumstances. Sorry about that and all I can say is the car is great and I have no problem keeping it in the collection. Don’t think I will be able to get to Porsche today for a DME. Don’t have any idea when bar was installed. Sorry

@SilverRose Lots and lots of receipts but between the holiday and a family member who just had open heart surgery I am unfortunately not as attentive to this auction as J would have been under other circumstances. Sorry about that and all I can say is the car is great and I have no problem keeping it in the collection. Thanks for your interest and follow up

  • Clubracer6 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Good morning! Are you getting a DME report done this AM? Do you know when the roll bar was put in?

  • SilverRose (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@larryk - with that roll bar in, I'd highly recco DME if you want full $. Track time indicator.

  • SilverRose (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@larryk - do you have a receipt / details on the 2004 engine out repair? VERY hard to break these motors.

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@skip1980 I will be returning late this evening and could meet you tomorrow either late morning or early afternoon. let me know if this coordinates with your schedule. Thanks again for your continued interest...

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Emerald-45 Sorry for the delayed response as I was out with the kids and family for the Fourth of July Celebration. Our community was holding a golf cart parade. Have no idea... Purchased car in NY and drove it back to Chicago without a single issue and without stopping overnight. Car has performed flawlessly over the years, without any problems and continued maintenance. Appreciate your interest and thanks again...

  • skip1980 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Not sure when you will return…but I can can make an earlier am or a later pm work if needed. …since I am very close. Thx. Mike.

  • Emerald-45 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Do you have any information why the engine needed a complete repair and the Trans was replaced with only 5k miles??

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@hsq Will try to get to car before Wednesday but with the fourth tomorrow and our family out of town, may be difficult to make it happen. Trying my best and appreciate your continued interest. Thanks Happy Fourth

  • hsq (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@larryk Any word on the DME report?

  • VOC4S (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@larryk Understood that the timing is off with the pending holiday, but given the NY and IL ownership - it’s important to see the undercarriage IMO. Have a safe and Happy 4th! GLWTA. She’s a beauty!

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@robbylou Thanks for sharing. The previous owner must have upgraded them. Appreciate it and Happy Fourth!

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@VOC4S I will try to get these for you. The holiday with family and being away makes it a bit difficult
but I will try my best. Thanks and Happy 4th

  • robbylou (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Konspore11 Tail lights are not oem. 996 did not get LEDs from the factory

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Could not agree more. As a classic car owner, I drive so few miles that the tires performed without issue with lots of tread. However, could not agree more that I would invest in new tires.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

For whoever is interested. The sumitomos htrz are great tires if you buy them right they will perform at
90 percent of the michellins at less than fifty percent of the price . No tire shop i know will deal with ten year old plus tires so budget for a new set right away

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Thanks for the continued interest. It’s good to see how many others appreciate the classic 04 GT3. Almost 20 years old and drives and looks like out of the showroom.

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@luis.seneriz Wow what an incredible story and thank G-d you are OK and no accident. Don’t know much about this since I have never raced. Unfortunately, the fastest I had on the IL tollway was just over 90. Know the GT3 Supercar was built for racing but I loved it for its classic first year which made it great. Thanks for sharing and stay safe and have fun. You for sure will beat the Vette next time you race them.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Glad I stumbled into this one . I es racing a 15 vette yesterday doing about 140 and yes I was ahead but I blew my coolant lines in my 03 turbo coupe yes my car ambient temperature was reading 112, lucky for me I was able to
Drive home if you push the mezgers the coolant lines will blow now I’m calling around getting quotes for the work before I tow my car to a shop

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@GT3er appreciate you sharing. The description was done by the auction group which is great. They are doing a fabulous job and I am already getting seller’s remorse as I know how very special this car has been and meant to me. Thanks again for your comments they are appreciated

  • GT3er (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@larryk you are correct that the 996 GT3 uses the C4 tub. The width dimension matches the narrow-body C2/C4. It is not a wide-body, which would match the C4S/Turbo body style. The use of "wide-body" in the description is not correct. Wide-body panels on GT3's started with the 997 version. Beautiful car... GLWS!

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@btkowalk Hi Biko: will try to get to hangar later today to get you the pics. Sorry but car is over an hour away and with work and the holidays coming it’s a little busy. Thanks for your interest

  • btkowalk (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Can you provide more pictures of the roll bar, particularly how it interacts with the back seat space, carpet, headliner, connection points, etc?

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@GT3er The 2004 GT3 chassis stems from the all-wheel-drive C4, but, in this instance, is rear-drive only. Porsche revised the rear bulk-head, the gas-tank size is reduced, and there are many detail changes. The GT3 takes its cues from the GT3 911 Cup-inspired front fascia, unique rocker panels, and signature rear wing. It is beautiful and the 2004 with approximately only 700 make it a true collectible. Thanks

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@hsq yes. Tomorrow are storms here in Chicago and I don’t take the car out in the rain. Weather permitting I would take the car over to Porsche and have the service dept do it for me. Tough holiday weekend to get it done. Thanks again

  • GT3er (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Description indicates’wider body shell’ of the C4. I don’t think that is correct. Beautiful 6-3!

  • hsq (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Would you be willing to get a DME report?

  • larryk (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

No I do not have a DME report. Thanks for taking the time to look at the auction.
