Sporting Turbo-derived brakes and bodywork, this 2004 Carrera 4S Cabriolet represented the ultimate Carrera in Porsche’s model range. It comes finished in Forest Green Metallic over a Brown Natural Leather interior with extended leather upholstery and Light Wood trim throughout. The car was driven by its original owner in Colorado for the first 13 years before being acquired by the seller in December of 2017. Now showing approximately 88k miles on the odometer, this 4S Cabriolet is being offered for auction out of Colorado.

Compared to a standard 996 Carrera, the 4S includes wider fenders, side skirts, and red-painted brakes derived from the 911 Turbo as well as a model-specific reflector band connecting the taillights. This Cabriolet is finished in the rarely seen color of Forest Green Metallic with a black convertible top, optional xenon headlamps, and factory 18” 911 Turbo wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. The wheels were mounted with a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in January 2022. The seller states the hood, windshield frame, and rear spoiler were refinished during their ownership, and clear paint protection film is applied over the hood, fenders, and mirror caps. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing damage to the rear in 2008.

The cabin is appointed with premium Brown Natural Leather including extended upholstery covering the mirror attachments, fuse box trim, steering column and controls, backrest coat hooks, rear center console, seat adjustment knobs, and defroster as well as the front console, sun visors, and side air vents. Other options include the Light Wood Package, a shifter and brake handle with Light Wood and aluminum trim, a three-spoke steering wheel in leather, heated supple leather seats, and the Bose High-End Sound Package. The seller reports signs of wear on the front seats and notes a magnetic phone mount has been installed above the cupholder console.

All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission paired with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine rated at 315 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque. An upgraded Fabspeed exhaust system was installed by the original owner and the front differential is said to have been rebuilt in January 2022. Service records accompany the sale showing routine maintenance dating back to the original owner's purchase.

This sale will include a clean title.

@ArjuN911 I assume the clutch was replaced as is practicable when the IMS bearing and RMS seal was addressed . I have no invoices to substantiate this ; however, the clutch engages early in the pedal as opposed to later which is an indicator of wear. I do have documentation regarding spark plug replacement at 72,000 miles. Hope this is helpful, Ray

I want to introduce myself as a 77 year old Porsche enthusiast that just reconnected with a brand of travel that in my twenties had approximately 7 air cooled 911's and loved them for their efficiency and the fact that I was flying air cooled Pratt & Whitney engines for a living made it even more enjoyable; however, when I purchased my first water cooled 911 it was this C4S and I have been delighted with all the improvements concerning ride quality , heater ability , AC , all wheel drive , PASM , ABD, ETC. Porsche continues to improve in all areas; however, this 996 is about as much fur to drive as any vehicle you could own . I presently have a 991 Carrera S Cabriolet and the 996 C4S is more visceral and closer to the 911's I owned in the past. Wishing the new owner as much fun and appreciation of the car as I have experienced ! Regards, Ray

@palmerd27 Before I bought the car , I called Midstate Motors in Snowmass CO who had serviced the vehicle after warranty and they assured me that the IMS bearing and RMS had been replaced but could not provide an invoice to validate such because they replaced their old computer system and had no records dating back. I had a 73 911 T Targa in 1983 and used Midstate Motors as my service provider so I knew the Owners and took them at their word. I have put approximately 36,000 trouble free miles on the vehicle since my purchase with no issues ( leaks etc.) Also the later 996's had much fewer IMS bearing issues than 1999 -2003. The original owner was not present at the sale as he was ill and I purchased the car from his nephew or I would have pursued the paper work further. Hope this helps. Regards, Ray

@Havenhearth Paint code label has been added to photo gallery !

  • madog (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Crashklein The more progressive paint shops use a Spectrophotometer which measures how much a substance or color reflects or absorbs light. This way an auto body repair shop can match the paint on the car as close as is possible . Hope this is helpful

@Crashklein No discernable difference, the car looks the same all over Forrest Green Metallic , Thanks for your interest

  • Crashklein (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Since the front of the car has been repainted at a different time than the rear of the car, how well does the paint match between front, rear and center?

    @Havenhearth Hello David:
    Thanks for your interest.

I drove the car winter and summer during the last 5 years of my ownership. I don't have any idea of the previous owner's habits, except the car had 52,000 miles on it after his 13 years of ownership. When I drove it in the winter, I washed it quite frequently and it has been garaged during this time.

There is no rust anywhere and concerning the accident, all I have is the Carfax report as the accident happened late 2007, and there's been nothing to indicate that there's been an accident. In other words, I didn't know about the accident until I was shown the Carfax report.

The wheel alignment is according to factory specs. I have a lot of the workshop invoices from Stevenson Imports where the car was purchased. But there is nothing to indicate an accident in any of them either.

The seats are heated and are the 14-way-adaptive sports seats. The driver side has a lumbar adjustment. I have had the driver's seat covered with sheepskin covers about 3 years and the passenger seat about 18 months.

I have used this car as my primary means of transportation and she is in great shape and ready for the next owner. If you look at the gallery of photos, there is a list of all that has been done recently and I don't anticipate any maintenance in the next 2 years, other than oil and filter changes. Of course, this is dependent on driving habits, mileage, etc.

To my knowledge, the car has not been used in any competitive events; certainly not during my tenure.

Again, thanks for your interest and I am happy to answer any more questions that you may have.

    Sincerely,
    Ray

    HI Madog,

Some questions, please, about this comely car:

First, was it driven on Colorado's highly salted roads during any of the snowy or slushy months? i.e.: is there any rust Anywhere? What about in the previous owner's tenure?

Second, would you kindly provide photos of the rear end damage? What does the Carfax say about the car? Was there any frame/monocoque damage? Has a 4 wheel alignment been done since the accident? Is the alignment Well within factory specs?

Third, are the seats heated? Assuming from photos 2, 4 and 9, sheepskins covered the seats for part of the car's life. Do you know how long? And the seats are standard, not 14-way adaptive Sport Seats, is that accurate?

Fourth, what work do you anticipate the car needing in the next 2 years. Clearly you've taken care of regular upkeep and tires. I note your mention of the front differential requiring a rebuild. What else may be anticipated in the foreseeable future?

Finally, has the car ever been driven in competition events, i.e.: DE, track or autocross?

Thank You very much for your patience. If you have a photo of the color code label that would be of interest, too.

I appreciate your assistance in learning more about this Very Handsome car.

    Kind Regards,

    David
