Now up for auction is this 2004 BMW E46 M3 Convertible finished in Titanium Silver Metallic over grey Nappa leather. The E46 platform represents a high point in both design and performance for BMW, and the 3rd generation of the 3-Series is often used as a benchmark even against today’s modern sports sedans. Originally sold in California where it remained up until 2013, this 2004 example stays true to its factory specifications and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York with approximately 68k miles showing on the odometer.
This M3 is factory finished in Titanium Silver Metallic and the seller reports that the front bumper was previously refinished for cosmetic purposes. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX. The M3 sports a few major differences compared with a standard 3-Series, most notably its wider fender flares, side air vents, revised front bumper, mirrors, rear valence, and signature M-Power quad-tip exhaust. Another distinctive feature are the 19” Style 67 forged wheels which are manufactured by Fuchs and currently dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires.
Inside, the grey Nappa leather upholstery is said to be in very good condition aside from some typical wear and tear on the seats. This E46’s interior features M-specific details including Sport Seats, a thicker M-Sport leather steering wheel with contrasting stitching, and an M gauge cluster with special warm-up lights unique to the S54 engine. Additional factory options include brushed aluminum interior trim, a BMW MK4 navigation system, heated seats, PDC (parking distance control), and a Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi stereo system.
Power comes from the venerable 3.2L S54 inline-six, which makes up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft of torque. Widely regarded as one of BMW’s best engine designs, the S54 derives motorsport technology including individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, and upgraded Mahle pistons. This M3 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds and up to an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH. BMWs automated Sequential Manual Gearbox II, or SMG II, routes power to the rear wheels and allows the driver to change their own gears or enable a fully automatic setting. CARFAX shows a fairly consistent history of service including BMW dealer maintenance from 2015 to 2019 when the last documented service was performed at 67,424 miles.
The sale will include 1 key, the original owner’s manuals, and a clean title. A generation regarded by some enthusiasts to be the true “Ultimate Driving Machine”, this E46 M3 is just waiting to please its next owner.

@porscheklaus know anyone in Los Angeles who does the conversion and does it well?
Is the SMG a true automatic in that it will shift gears without driver input, or is some input still needed from the paddles or stick?
Carfax hard to read. Can you please Scan in a better copy?
thank you.

Why ANY sales manager ordered one of these with an SMG gearbox is absolutely beyond me. ...rather like going to the whore house to listen to the piano player.............. good news, the conversion to the proper three pedals can be done.
