This 2004 BMW E46 M3 Coupe is finished in Carbon Black over a matching Nappa leather interior and features a 6-speed manual gearbox paired with its venerable 3.2-liter S54 engine. It was acquired by the current owner in 2011 while showing just 43k miles on the odometer and has been thoughtfully modified with an upgraded Dinan Stage 1 suspension as well as a StopTech brake kit, an aFe cold air intake, APEX wheels, a carbon fiber sunroof delete, and more. The car has also been rigorously maintained with an overhaul of the cooling system, rebuilt VANOS, and new rod bearings. This legendary BMW is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Michigan with under 99k miles showing on the odometer.

The E46 M3 is differentiated from a standard 3-Series by its aggressive bumpers and front fender vents as well as its power dome hood, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler, and quad-tip exhaust outlet. This Coupe is finished in Carbon Black and features an aftermarket carbon fiber roof panel which eliminates the factory sunroof. It rides on a set of silver-painted 18” APEX EC-7 dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (0719). Another set of APEX EC-7 wheels is also included and finished anthracite with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The seller notes the front bumper cover and hood have been refinished, a new windshield has been installed, and XPEL paint protection film is applied over the front end. The car has seen some track use during the seller’s ownership and some stone chips are present on the rear fenders and on the hood past the protective clear film. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this M3 wears black Nappa leather upholstery with Brushed Aluminum Shadow trim and an Alcantara headliner which was installed during the sunroof delete in 2020. The A-pillars have been recently replaced with new Alcantara, and the seller adds that the seat upholstery remains in very good condition. Schroth 4-point harness anchors have also been installed for track days. Factory features include power-operated and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control, a three-spoke M leather steering wheel, power windows and mirrors, M3-specific instrument dials, an M leather shift knob, M3-branded door sills and floor mats, a stainless-steel M3 rest pedal, and a BMW Business CD stereo paired with a Harman-Kardon sound system.

This M3 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine featuring double-VANOS variable valve timing, six individual throttle bodies, and an output of up to 338 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission. The Dinan Stage 1 suspension includes upgraded front control arm and rear trailing arm bushings as well as Turner Motorsport front camber plates, and TC Kline rear lower control arms and upper shock mounts. Other upgrades include an aFe cold air intake, a Mishimoto electric cooling fan, and a full StopTech brake kit. The seller observed meticulous maintenance during their 12 years of ownership including annual high-quality fluid and filter changes as well as routine valve adjustments and a differential reseal. Notable service items performed in 2017 included a VANOS rebuild and full cooling system overhaul at 74,300 miles and rod bearings replaced at 78,600 miles.

This sale will include extensive service records and an extra set of APEX wheels along with the original owner’s manuals, toolkit, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for checking out the auction. Have owned this car for 12 of its 19 years and have maintained it meticulously. Any mechanical work it needed was remedied with new or upgraded parts. The new owner will have no issues to address and can enjoy this car immediately.”

@lhwlyd The calipers were new in late 2022 so lots of life left there. Rotors and Pads were new at that time also and I have an extra set of brake pads that I will include with the sale. New belts replaced 9/21 at 92,000 miles and tensioner checked. Tensioner was new when VANOS and cooling system overhauled at 74,000 miles. Car has UUC underdrive pulleys installed as well. Looking through receipts, saw last valve adjustment was done at 85,900 miles, 5/19.

Hi, has the accessory belt, tensioner, pulleys been refreshed? And how much life left on the rotor, pads, and caliper before needing a rebuild? Thanks

@Spazaz88 Have uploaded multiple photos of the rear subframe area taken this morning. Hope you find this helpful.

Brennanmurph, I realized later, while answering two questions, I had not directly addressed both of your questions but did answer a similar question regarding the rear subframe. I have not had any reinforcements done in the rear subframe. This morning, 6/12/23, I reached out to one of my local shops and put the car up on a lift for additional photos which have been loaded. The rear subframe bushings continue to be in great condition. With the help of one of the technicians, took multiple photos from different angles showing the rear subframe mounting points which showed ZERO CRACKS. Also included photos of the areas of the rear trailing arm bushing pockets, also showing no cracking or deterioration. The trailing arm bushings were replaced early in my ownership with upgraded BIMMERWORLD trailing arm bushings. Thanks for your questions and interest in the car. Please let me know if there is anything else you have a question about. Happy to answer any and all questions.

@Spazaz88 Thank you for your interest and bidding. The rear subframe has been inspected annually. That would be the next piece of work I would have looked into had I not decided to sell. The couple of times I inquired about it, was advised the subframe bushings were not showing deterioration or wear. So the money was put elsewhere on the car, most recently the brake upgrade.

  • razecar4 (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Brennanmurph Thank you for your interest in the M3. The StopTech brake upgrade is the ST40 4 piston version, 355mm slotted rotors front and rear.

So for the last of the big 3 is the subframe in good shape or has been reinforced? Pictures of the area would be nice if not reinforced

  • Brennanmurph 1 year, 6 monthsago

Does this have the subframe reinforcement? Also what stoptechs 6 piston, 4 piston, 380 or 332mm?
