For the 2003 model year, Porsche’s 986 Boxster model line benefitted from a thorough facelift, including revised bumpers, reshaped side air-inlets with body-color grilles, and a modified rear spoiler. This example comes finished in Carrara White over Metropol Blue leather upholstery and features 17” Boxster S II wheels along with a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission paired to its flat-six engine. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina while showing approximately 74k miles on the odometer.
Designed by Grant Larson, who is also responsible for the styling of the Carrera GT and 997, the 986 presents elegant lines, side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and an open-air driving experience. This Boxster comes finished in Carrara White and rides on optional 17” Boxster S II wheels mounted with older Sumitomo GTR ZIII tires. The seller notes minor imperfections on the passenger-side front quarter panel and rear bumper, along with slight dents on the passenger's side rear quarter panel. Additional images are provided in the gallery. The CARFAX report shows damage to the rear end in September 2009.
The cabin presents Metropol Blue upholstery and features matching carpets along with an optional Porsche wind deflector for comfortable open-top driving. Additional options include a remote-control alarm system and cruise control. An aftermarket radio and speaker system has been installed, and the original items are said to accompany the sale. Minor scuffs and a broken tip on the cup holder are noted, and the mirror cover for the driver’s side sun visor has snapped off. The broken pieces are located in the glove box.
Power is derived from a 2.7-liter flat-six engine, generating as much as 228 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The seller adds that an oil change, cylinder lock replacement, transmission fluid change, and transmission harness replacement were recently carried out. The seller notes the AC blower stops intermittently and an independent Porsche specialist was unable to replicate the issue during the most recent service visit.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, sales literature, and miscellaneous items.
The seller would like you to know: “After a few Porsches over the years, I purchased this car to get my wife excited about the brand. It did the trick! This is such a great car that we now have a 911SC and a Macan S in our garage. This car deserves to be enjoyed with top-down and the easy shifting of the Tiptronic by all drivers in your family.”

@donspaulding Thanks for your questions. I will answer them in turn to the best of my ability.
Open Recall: There was a recent recall alert regarding the headlight housings. As far as I know this is the only outstanding recall. I have not addressed this recall as this seemed to be a very minor issue. The headlights themselves have LED bulbs in the housings that work surprisingly well, much better than the stock bulbs.
Pic #33 re: Wrinkle at Inlet: This was a sizable dent that was on the vehicle when I purchased it. I paid for a paintless dent removal service to remove this dent as much as possible. The result was about 95% improvement. The picture makes the wrinkle look a bit worse than it appears in-person. There is no bondo.
Pic #37 re: This is a glass window top with defroster. The "hole" that you are seeing in pic 37 is actually just a pinch in the fabric from having the top down on an extended drive before the pics were taken. This pinched area smooths out quickly when the top is up. There are no holes in the convertible top. The top is in great condition and has been regularly cleaned and treated with Raggtopp cleaner and sealant which I will include with the sale.
Original paint: I do not have access to a paint meter, but it is my understanding that the car has original paint on all metal surfaces as all paint has similar finish, no orange peel, etc. I would assume the front and/or rear plastic bumpers may have been repainted at some point, but if so, this is not noticeable. There is one spot on the passenger rear fender where touch-up paint was used by a previous owner to fill a scratch and appears to be slightly off-color.
Original paint or ?/
"Open Recall" satisfied?/ 33/94 wrinkle at inlet, full of bondo?/ Glass Window with defroster?/ 37/94 Hole in top. Goes
Completely thru? THANKS
@On2luck Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with that error. I pointed it out when the auction first went live but received no response from @pcarmarket.
Color in detail section listed as “Silver”.
Thank you for viewing my auction. This Boxster is the perfect compromise for the family looking for a Porsche roadster that can be driven by everyone, including those less adept with manual transmissions. Speaking of transmissions, the Tiptronic in this car has been recently serviced including new fluids and a new wiring harness.
If we had the space, I would absolutely keep this Boxster as the color combination and drivability are excellent. The only things I would do is put on a new set of tires and order a custom set of blue and white CocoMats.
If you have any questions about this one, please ask. I will be closely monitoring this auction throughout the duration.
