Finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Brown Natural Leather interior, this 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission paired with its 3.6-liter Mezger engine as well as the optional X50 Turbo Power Kit. The car was also factory equipped with optional 18” Sport Techno wheels, supple leather seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, aluminum instrument dials, stainless steel exhaust pipes, stainless steel door sill insignias, and aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle. It is said to have been cared for by the previous owner, an avid PCA member, for over a decade and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida while showing approximately 57k miles on the odometer.
The 996 Turbo is distinguished from a contemporary Carrera model by its wider fenders with rear side air intakes as well as its unique bumpers, side skirts, and speed-activated rear wing. This 2003 example is finished in Basalt Black Metallic and features optional stainless-steel exhaust pipes, 18” Sport Techno wheels, and an upgraded Rennkit E-Ram rear wing mechanism. The car rides on new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and the seller states that the paint remains all original apart from the passenger side rear quarter panel which is believed to have been refinished based on paint meter readings. Some chips are also noted on the front end consistent with normal road-going wear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this 996 highlights Brown Natural Leather upholstery and optional supple leather seats complemented by Exclusive aluminum instrument dials, stainless-steel door sills with model insignias, and aluminum inlays for the leather shifter and brake handle. Other options include heated front seats with lumbar support and a three-spoke steering wheel in leather. The car also features an Alcantara headliner, power windows and mirrors, a rear window wiper, central locking doors, automatic dual-zone climate control, cruise control, an electric sunroof, a CD storage compartment, and a Porsche CDR23 stereo. Some minor signs of wear are noted on the seat bolsters and the seller reports all gauges and accessories are fully functional.
This 996 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine featuring the optional X50 Powerkit which adds larger K24 turbochargers and intercoolers along with revised ECU programming for an output of up to 450 HP and 457 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The CARFAX report shows service history up until it was acquired by the previous owner who personally maintained the car at his home shop. The seller adds that an oil change was recently performed along with a multi-point inspection which found the car to be in excellent mechanical order.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, some documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Beautifully spec’d 996 Twin Turbo. Basalt Black stands out from standard black as it shows subtle hints of dark blue and brown while under direct sunlight. Mechanically this car is 100%. Runs and drives incredibly well. The X50 Power Kit consists of larger GT2 turbochargers, intercoolers, and ECU software - this was an $18,000 option back in 2003, and when you adjust for inflation that is the equivalent of $30,000 today! This car is original and unmodified which produces 450hp, although only 35hp more than the standard turbo’s 415hp, the main difference is the power delivery and torque curve from the larger turbochargers. The surge is far more immense and having had both examples, once you drive an X50 car, a regular turbo won’t suffice.”

Seller is correct that DME reports for 997 gen Turbos provide more detail than the 996. With the 997 generation, overrevs were split into 6 different ranges with only the 5th and 6th ranges (highest) being considered "dangerous." Range 2 for the 996 generation includes range 4 for the 997 gen, but range 4 is considered "safe." Back when age appropriate, Porsche would still certify pre owned 997 turbos that had overrevs in range 4 - they would not extend CPO if ignitions in range 5 or 6. The DME shared in this listing would give me a ton of confidence that this car has NOT been revved to the stratosphere negligently. Any issues with overrevs would have shown themselves in the last 35 operating hours, in my humble opinion. I have owned, driven, and ridden in 996 turbos with more than 15,000 ignitions in overrev range 2 with zero issues. these mezgers are bred for racing and fantastic in road cars. Presentation is stellar here. especially with the x50, this car is one to chase/splurge/reach...

Any evidence that the coolant fittings have been pinned or welded? Are the brakes and clutch original?

@guitarnyc The 996 DME reports are not as valuable as the 997 ones because they aren't as accurate. From what I was told by the tech this is a normal and considered a safe report for 996's. As you can see in the video the engine is very smooth and quiet.
Someone here might know how to read the DME report better. Am I see that there are 956 ignitions in the 2nd range with the last one occurring just 35 hours ago? Seems pretty recent.
