The first 911 Turbo of the new millennium, the 996 Turbo features wide model-specific bodywork along with a water-cooled 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine sending power to all four wheels. This 2003 example came factory equipped with the sought-after X50 Turbo Powerkit, which upgrades the 3.6-liter Mezger engine with larger turbochargers, intercoolers, and revised tuning. With an original sticker price over $149k, this Turbo came finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Brown natural leather interior and equipped with the Leather Interior Package, the Park Assist System, heated front seats, a 6-speed manual transmission, and exclusive aluminum trim pieces. This example was sold new in Boston, Massachusetts, and is believed to have been previously owned by American racecar driver Dick Barbour. Previously sold on PCARMARKET, it is now being offered for auction out of Texas showing approximately 21k miles on the odometer.
This example comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on painted 18” Turbo wheels with colored Porsche-crested center caps and Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2022. The Turbo-specific bodywork includes wide fenders with rear side air intakes, flared rocker panels, bumpers with additional air vents, and a rear spoiler with a speed-activated wing. The seller notes that the car was refinished by a Concours-level painter due to a vinyl wrap that caused damage to the paint upon removal. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is upholstered in Brown Natural Leather and features the Leather Interior Package, heated front seats, Porsche-crested headrests, a leather steering wheel, and a leather rear center console. Additional options include a 6-disc CD changer, aluminum instrument dials, aluminum and leather shifter and handbrake trim, black floor mats with Porsche lettering, the Parking Assist System, and Porsche Communication Management II (PCM 2.0).
Equipped with the optional X50 Turbo Powerkit, the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six Mezger engine produces up to 444 HP and 457 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4 seconds. The seller states a secondary air injection system valve was replaced under previous ownership, an aftermarket exhaust has been installed, and an aftermarket flash tune is believed to have been installed although no supporting documentation is available. The CARFAX report shows a total of 3 service history entries between 2018 and 2021.
The seller would like you to know: “I believe the car was bought by Dick Barbour in the northeast. He owned and personally drove the car for a number of years. The car was sold to someone who didn't own it very long and sold it to my seller. My seller sold because of health issues. I had the car completely gone through by a reputable Porsche shop when I bought it. Fresh oil change, tires, all fluids, the works. Great daily driver. This car is a lot of fun to own and drive. These 996 turbos have a lot of raw power. This car feels more analog than my 997 turbo's. And the color combo is killer.”

@Autotrend yes. For some reason people always want pics with it up.
does the rear wing operate up and down as designed at porsche. your photos only show it in the up position
Ok, thanks for that!
@lowtone not many or any nicks with a fresh coat.
Couldn’t get the paint right with the glare. It would have been worse.
Curious why the pictures are mostly in the shadows, sunlight would really demonstrate the condition of the paint. I do acknowledge you're honest and upfront comments about paint nicks though.

@Porschephilia I haven’t gotten rev range. Trying. No. I didn’t get any. But when you get on it the way it jumps I think it has been. But I also can’t confirm.
Is the rev range info available? Also, what is the information available about a possible tune?

@thetexican. Beautiful cars in the background of paint meter photos!
@Thetexican. the prior seller masked the seat and dash issues? Wow, pretty crappy thing to do. Appreciate your answers and quick responses.
See paint meter readings.

@Abuong01 they weren’t. He churched it up a lot. Hence the repaint. My paint correction guy started and got 3 hours into the job before he said it was pointless. It’s a great car but has some wear. Mechanically it’s perfect. All my cars have come with knicks and dings on interior. None of them that age are perfect. But it’s very clean for age and miles. I would have fixed the seat and dash like the paint but you can’t fix everything.
@Thetexican thank you. Trying to understand what happened in the 1500 miles or so since it was listed on a prior site, the seat and section of the dash (near key port) looked in perfect condition in that listing.
I’ve added a few more photos. One shows the damage to the dash next to key port. One showing the wear on the seat bolster. Last showing where dick Barbour signed the plastic cover in the trunk area. I have no pictures or documentation of signature. Just how I got the car.

@Abuong01 I’ll get a better pic today. I was told it was a daily driver for dick Barbour for a number of years. No clue if true or not. Lot of trips short miles could cause wear. No clue. It’s also 20 years old. The leather wasn’t as sturdy back then. I have a los mile 993 and also a Ferrari f355 both with west areas on the seats like that.
@thetexican. Do you know why the driver seat bolster has so much wear, unusual for a 21k mile care.
@renj powder coat. Should not wear off.
@Thetexican agree the chrome was very bright and the darker wheels look great. Do you know what the process was to darken or paint them? Is it something that could wear off, or powder coated, or new chrome plating? Thanks!
Bid in the amount of $24,000
@CarNutinMiami yes. It came with a chrome set. They were too bright for the car.
Have those wheels been painted?
@Thetexican. Just set up your screen in the dashboard and do a hard third gear pull to see how high it boost too. That will gives and indication of rough horsepower.
@luis.seneriz I will see if the shop that it’s being stored at can tell me.
@Fryingpan I’m not sure I can get dme report but I will see.
I do have all maintenance records from previous owner it’s a full binder and mine as well. I believe the coolant lines were addressed.
38 is think is just a weird angle.
40 is just that crinkling and then on of the leather speaker covers is coming up slightly. I’ll have better pics Monday.
Bid in the amount of $21,996
Can you tell us what’s the car maximum boost? Natural leather is pretty cool . Last year of 964 block part number with the made in Germany stamp this is the year to have.
Pictures 38 and 40, what is causing the issue with the door card and the dash? I can't really tell in the picture, but how much damage is on the dash?
DME Report? Any documentation/maintenance records available? Coolant lines addressed? Thanks.
@skywalker27612 tires are brand new. Might just be from sitting. I’ll get them checked.
@skywalker27612 on it. Might take me a day.
btw you may have a flat tire in the front rights side. Seems low ;)
paint reading please

Damn, I just happen to be in Austin for business. Beautiful car. Wouldn’t be my choice of interior but plenty love it. This will do great.
