This 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe received an extensive list of track-focused upgrades and modifications complementing its legendary twin-turbocharged Mezger engine. Finished in Seal Grey Metallic, this 6-speed example features various parts from Dundon Motorsports and Spec German including GT2 intercoolers and a Sachs Stage 2 clutch, a COBB tune, Ohlins coilovers, a big brake kit, pinned coolant lines, and much more. Sold new in California, this Turbo has since made its way to Washington where it is now being offered for auction with approximately 106k miles on the odometer.
This Turbo comes finished in Seal Grey Metallic and features Turbo-specific bumpers, widened fenders, and side air intakes. Optimized for aerodynamics, this 996 has been modified with a front diffuser, front canards, intercooler scoop inlays, and a 997 Turbo-style fixed rear wing painted Guards Red. A set of 18” aftermarket wheels come dressed in Nitto NT01 tires mounted approximately 3 months ago. The seller adds that this example has always been garage-kept during their ownership, and clear paint protection film has been applied to the front half of the hood. Some minor signs of road wear are noted, and detailed images are provided in the gallery. This example has been used for local track days and for instructing new track students. The seller notes an OEM front window replacement was carried out in 2016, and the CARFAX report shows minor cosmetic damage during that same year.
The cabin is appointed with Black leather which covers the dashboard, door inserts, steering wheel, shift boot, and brake lever. A set of OMP driver and passenger bucket seats have been installed along with 6-point harnesses. Other features include black carpet floor mats, automatic climate control, and an electric sunroof. The seller adds that all gauges and accessories are working properly, and the spoiler error light temporarily appears due to the modified rear wing.
A twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine sends power to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Approximately 3 years ago, the engine is said to have been exchanged with the correct replacement showing 62k miles. This engine was reportedly refreshed along with the transmission, including replacements of the A/C compressor, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, coils, drive belts, and fuel filter. With increased performance output by a COBB tune, the dyno test showed a total of 488 HP and 499 lb.-ft of torque in a temporary rear-wheel-drive configuration. Additional upgrades include Ohlins R&T coilovers, adjustable stabilizer bars, Tarett camber plates, a big brake kit, 997 GT2 intercoolers, a CFD-design large throttle body, a Dundon Motorsports custom stainless steel exhaust, Synapse blow-off valves, and a GT2 clutch conversion kit with Sachs Stage 2 race clutch.
This sale will include a clean title.

Shame, decent build. Would've brought 10k more without all the Honda Civic stuff all over it.
@GWhuffalo Still can, Driving it would be informing as to the price. Professionally set up for the track and still street legal. Good luck and all the best!
Of course a co worker walked in as im bidding, im gonna guess RNM
I’m out would’ve been fun to track it then drive it home.

@cknibbe Mezger engine in a 996 turbo does not have that problem. one of the best engines porsche ever built
@cknibbe The IMS is a non-issue with the 996tt configuration. It has an IMS but is different than a NA 996
I'm sorry if this is an ignorant question, but is the potentially faulty IMS bearing an issue on this car ?
@mikerunt When Dundon's made the one and only 996tt exhaust for me, I had high flow CATs included in the build.
@mikerunt I'm unaware of the laws in Cali but on the highway I get 26-27 mpg on the track I get 5.4 mpg. I moved into rural areas of WA State so haven't had emissions ran on the car. Saying that, the Cobb tune OBCD unit will come with the car so it can go back to the OEM settings.
I am assuming that the performance upgrades of the engine would prevent this car from being smogged and registered in California?

@alwaysbored786 Perfect! All the best in the seat pursuit!
@BruceAnderson098 Yup, i want to daily drive and take it to the track for lapping days, HPDE, as well as enjoying it in the snow, going to dinner, hence wanting stock seats for the normal driving.
It appears most comments are aligning with potentially only daily driving and street use. If this is your lane, then the efficient path would redirect your pursuits to strictly an OEM street car. This car is an exceptionally dialed street legal track car with years of evolution; please consider that while reviewing the auction/ad. If you've thought about doing HPDE or lapping days and want to drive the car to the event, this is the car for you!
This is what im looking for, a 996 turbo I can just drive without worry. Although I would like stock seats back in the car, does anyone have a set for sale or know how much it cost to get a used set?
Love that the coolant lines are already pinned.
@Blubusdrvr I've never shopped at Pep boys but have acquired and installed highly functional parts that enable exceptional on-track handling. I've ran HPDE events and lapping days for 15 years and have a noise & vibe + aero engineering background so like I said this vehicle handles exceptionally well on the track; if that is not your domain, walk away.
@GWhuffalo The car is wired for 14 way heated seats but I do not have the originals anymore.
@Blubusdrvr There are OEM fastener holes that are used for the front splitter; it easily comes off without damage or issue.
The 997tt wing is painted but the OEM 996tt wing comes with the sale. The posts have set screws (OEM set-up) that allow easy transition.
The canards are also 3M taped on and can be removed easily without paint repercussion.
@GWhuffalo Awesome!
The original power train had per my estimation ~15k - 20k on-track miles.
I used to trailer the car to track days but now (for the last 6 years) I live 10 minutes from The Ridge Motorsports Park so I drive the car to events. The transmission has been serviced, (linkage tightened, wear checks) just prior to the engine exchange.
I personally through trusted shops have evolved the car slowly over 11 years of ownership; it is dialed!
Bid in the amount of $8,050
So far questions are about returning it to stock? To me it looks like a street legal track car used for HPDE events. My questions will focus accordingly. 1) how many track days do you believe you’ve done? 2) Did you drive the car to the track or trailer it? 3) Did you get the car this way or make the changes under your ownership? If so still have seats etc ? I’ll probably just use contact seller for further details. Thanks in advance for your time.
Regarding the Pep Boys parts: (you already answered about the intake scoops) are the dive planes 3M taped as well? Are the grills OEM Porsche parts and just painted or are they wrapped or aftermarket? I'm guessing the red on the rear spoiler is a wrap and easily removed? And how about the strip on the front spoiler? I'm guessing that's a "splitter"? I see in pic 49 it's screwed/bolted on. What exactly is it drilled into to?

Documentation proving this is the correct motor?
"why did the engine need to be replaced"
I believe under the previous ownership there was maintenance neglect and I inherited those issues (11 years ago)....I addressed all the previous neglect and built an amazing performer, unfortunately replacing the motor was part of that effort.
"what mileage was on the engine that went into the car"
There was roughly 62k miles on the replacement motor which was gone through thoroughly due to the experience.
"and what use had it seen / what history is known about it"
The replacement motor was purchased from Porsche Dismantler in SCal. The car had front end damage and appeared to be of daily driver/car show background. I don't have much more than that other than the motor over the last ~3k miles has been perfectly awesome!
"did the 2 wheel ( temporary ) configuration give a dyno readout that differs from its (assumed) current 4 wheel power level?"
Of course, connecting the front drive to its OEM configuration causes an increased load and reduces the total BHP. I do not have an absolute HP?Tq # for the OEM 4WD configuration.
"can the intake scoops be removed without leaving visible or cosmetic residue/bodywork holes?"
yes, there are no holes drilled in the car and 3M tape was used to secure the Joe Toth scoops so it can easily be changed to OEM without paint repercussions.
"what work do you anticipate the car needing in the next 2 year"
None! ...with the exception of general fluid changes this is a solid, perfectly performing and balanced 996.2 TT.
Hi Bruce,
There's a lot to love about this car.
A couple of questions please:
why did the engine need to be replaced?
what mileage was on the engine that went into the car?
and what use had it seen / what history is known about it?
did the 2 wheel ( temporary ) configuration give a dyno readout that differs from its (assumed) current 4 wheel power level?
if so, what is the difference ( if you don't know the answer, will the dyno shop offer one? )
what is its present power rating *at the wheels*?
can the intake scoops be removed without leaving visible or cosmetic residue/bodywork holes?
what work do you anticipate the car needing in the next 2 year?
Thanks in advance for your time and your assistance,
David
Hi, I'm happy to address any questions you may have regarding the car and it's history over the last 11 years under my ownership.
