The first turbocharged Porsche 911 of the new millennium, the 996 Turbo features wide model-specific bodywork along with a race-derived Mezger engine sending power to all four wheels. This 2003 example came factory equipped with the exclusive X50 Turbo Powerkit, which upgrades the 3.6-liter Mezger engine with larger turbochargers, intercoolers, and special tuning.  At an original sticker price over $149k, this Turbo came finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Brown natural leather interior and equipped with the Leather Interior Package, the Park Assist System, heated front seats, a 6-speed manual transmission, and exclusive aluminum trim pieces. This Turbo was sold new in Boston, Massachusetts, and is said to have been acquired by Dick Barbour, whose signature is present beneath the hood. It is now being offered for auction out of California showing approximately 21k miles on the odometer.

This example comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on polished 18” Turbo wheels with colored Porsche-crested center caps. Turbo-specific bodywork includes wide fenders with rear side air intakes, flared rocker panels, bumpers with additional air vents, and a rear spoiler with a speed-activated wing. The seller describes the exterior to be in very good condition and adds the car has never been driven during the winter, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Brown Natural Leather upholstery and features the Leather Interior Package, heated front seats, Porsche-crested headrests, a leather steering wheel, and a leather rear center console. Additional optional equipment includes aluminum instrument dials, aluminum and leather shifter and handbrake trim, black floor mats with Porsche lettering, the Parking Assist System, and Porsche Communication Management II (PCM 2.0).

Paired with the optional X50 Turbo Powerkit, the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six Mezger engine produces up to 444 HP and 457 lb.-ft of torque.  All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission providing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4.2 seconds. The CARFAX report shows a service completed by The Collection of Coral Gables Florida in 2021. The seller notes a secondary air injection system valve was recently replaced and the car passes emissions tests in the state of California.

This sale will include a clean title, a collection of maintenance records, owner’s manuals, and the original window sticker.

Buy a regular turbo, put K24 hybrids and for less than $65k you’ll have a car that will smoke this one any day of the week, put the other $30k in a card doing 5.5 percent, you are going to thank me after 5 years.

@Mnzu7 To my knowledge and based on the CARFAX, service history and a thorough examination of the car, the paintwork appears very consistent throughout. I went to Porsche to see if they had a paint meter and they did not. When I began looking to purchase one, the delivery dates were after the end of the auction. I was able to obtain a DME report from Porsche of Riverside in Southern California and it features only two ranges on the 996 Turbo. I’m attempting to upload it as we speak. Thanks again and Happy Bidding. It’s a spectacular car.

@JWolfle6325 Thank you for clarifying the mystery foam. This is not uncommon with Porsches as they age. I was also discouraged by my Porsche dealer from tearing the dashboard out of the car to replace the ducting with new foam. Thank you for all the kind words.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Eredding1477 thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts. It’s a wonderful car, but sometimes life gets in the way of our plans. Blessings to you.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@sportscarguy3 I would like to profoundly thank you for your kind words and thoughts. I greatly appreciate your support and understanding. It truly is a wonderful car and my circumstances are far from ideal. After owning Porsches since 1985, every one was special and has filled me with fond memories and adventures. I hoping and praying that someone will recognize the true rarity of a 2003 996 Turbo X50 with one owner since new until my purchase in August 2023. Additionally the car has all service records since new, including several of my own and 20,736 miles for a 20 year old true Mezger motor 6-Speed has all the potential for current and future collectibility. Thank you again and may God Bless You. I truly appreciate you.

Just wanted to wish everyone. Good luck on this final day and final hours of this and some Porsche 996 turbo with the X 50 package
If I had not recently purchased my 2003 Porsche 996TT, with a lot more miles than this, I’d certainly be a participant here today
Besides the low, mileage and very tidy, and like new interior, the seller seems to be a straightforward stand up Porsche. owner of many years and unfortunately is dealing with a difficult situation, and Marcella car that he really enjoys
I wish the seller, the best of luck with his issues and the sale
    And good luck all today

I owned a 2005 Turbo S Cab. Triple black. I had small pieces of foam rubber that came out of the HVAC dash vents. My local Porsche dealer told me it was a seal when vents were closed. Repair meant removal of entire dash and they did not recommend spending the money. I lived with it. My car had 24,000 miles on the clock and was huge fun. This car is phenomenal and quite obviously well cared for. It should bring a big $.

  • Lombard_RAC (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron You had previously mentioned you had located some Sport Techo wheels, will these be included in the sale? Best of luck today, she really is a beautiful example

  • Eredding1477 1 year, 10 monthsago

Todd, such a wonderful example. I am a current 2004 4S owner and have always wanted the turbo version. Wishing you all the best in getting this gem to a new owner that will appreciate and care for it as you have. Eric Redding

@rickmilligan928 Hi Rick, Todd Citron the seller here again. I’ve gone back through all the questions and comments and yet I don’t see any questions from you directed toward me. I’m not sure if this is a PCAR issue, but if you review the question and comment history, I make my best effort to answer any and all questions or comments as quickly as possible. I’m a long standing member of the Porsche community so I want to do everything I can to answer any questions, comments or concerns you might have. Thanks very much and have a blessed evening.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 Hi there, I’m Todd Citron, the seller. Just to be clear, I saw a recent post from you saying that you had not received a response on logistical questions. To my count, you asked at least 4 questions and I have responded to each of of them. The first question regarded a CARFAX report, which is located in the posting as another bidder answered. You asked a question about a temp tag and why am I selling so quickly. I answered that I’m suffering from severe medical major illnesses. You had asked an additional question about if work on the dash had been done as you saw specs of black foam on top of the dash. I answered this question as well that as all cars age, the ductwork behind the dash usss foam at the junction points and over time that can dry out. You also asked a question about a service regarding replacing an 02 sensor. I responded that it was replaced the day they mention it to me and the receipt is included in the listing. I believe you had also asked if the car would come with more than one key. I mentioned that I would pay to have a second key programmed from Porsche. When I purchased the car it only came with one key, which I replaced a couple months later SS the key fob failed. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve been a Porsche owner for nearly 40 years and I take great pride in our community. Thanks again and Happy Bidding! Don’t let this one get away.

@rickmilligan928 Hi Rick, I’m Todd Citron, the seller. I just noticed you had posted regarding that you had reached out to me via “contact seller” but had not received any response from me. Other than your initial bid (Thank you!), I have no questions or comments from you. If you have any questions, I want to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. There was another comment implying that his questions weren’t answered, and yet in fact, I answered every one of his questions. Thank you again and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me as the site is always available to me. Happy bidding!

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@sportscarguy3 Thank you very much for your complements. I actually was looking for a black interior car. When I saw this interior in person, it’s absolutely stunning. It’s truly a fabulous car and I hope it finds the right home. Low mileage one-owner 996 Mezger engined Turbo X50’s are rather uncommon and command far more than the current bid. Thank you again for the kind words and encouragement. Todd

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Just finding this good looking 996 TwinTurbo w/ X50 package !!
Nicely polished turbo twist looking wheels, aren’t they?
Also, the interior, while, not my preferred color, certainly is looking very clean and in excellent condition from the pictures I see
Having recently purchased a 2003 myself, I’m not bidding on this good looking Porsche., but certainly wanted to comment as black exterior certainly one of my favorites and a popular look I believe
Finally, low mileage, and the Dick Barbour connection are two other cool selling features
This low mileage Porsche. should do very well
    Good luck all

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    @Toddcitron Thank you.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@MezgerTT Thanks again for the question and the Premier Porsche dealership I’ve been going to for 38 years did not have a paint meter. I’ll do my best to locate one. Happy Bidding!

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron Thank you. Be great to get some paint meter readings as even original owners can scratch a panel or have a rock hit the hood and have it repainted without showing on CarFax. Hopefully, Porsche has a paint meter. Thank you, again.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@MezgerTT the car has only had the original owner, in addition to myself. The CARFAX report indicates no accident damage. I don’t own a paint meter (I’m not a dealer). The paint appears to be very very consistent around the entire car. I hope that helps. I’ll be at Porsche in about an hour. I’ll see if they have one. Happy Bidding!

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron Great looking turbo. Do you have any paint meter readings that you can post? Also, does the car have PPF and have any body panels been damaged and repaired? Thank you.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 They beat me to it. Good work! Happy Bidding. Such a fabulous car.

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    @robmsales picture 29

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 no dash work has been done on the car. I didn’t see any black foam. I know as Porsches age it’s not uncommon for a speck of foam to come out of the defroster or fresh air vents in the dash. I’ve seen this in a 997 Cab I owned since new. The foam is utilized where the ducting behind the dash is joined together. I’m very detail conscious and if it was foam (it was extremely windy that day) it would be the first speck I’ve ever seen. You also had a question regarding the 02 sensor. It was replaced later that day. They had pulled the intake manifold to replace a secondary air injection valve which was to solve the readiness monitors for smog checks. They called back then said it needed an 02 sensor. I drove to dealer and they explained it further and it was replaced. The invoice is included in the photo gallery. For some reason, the old 02 sensor is sitting in my bedroom. I’m not sure why. Ha! Hope that helps.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 Yes the spoiler is totally functional. For some reason, the photographer wanted to have a picture with the wing extended and retracted. Happy bidding.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 The winning bidder will get two new keys. I received only one key when I bought the car and the fob promptly died after about 8 batteries. So Porsche of Riverside sold me a new fob and used the original blade. So whomever wins the bidding, I will pay for a second new key fob, blade and programming. Hope that helps.

  • robmsales (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Skywalker27612- What # picture has the foam in the dash?
    Thanks Rob

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Sorry couple more questions while reviewing pictures
    - Driver side dash shows pieces of foam. What dash work was recently done? Is the problem solved?
    - in maintenance records I see that 02 sensor bank 1 ahead of converted caused engine check light but work was declined by customer. But in other records shows a work on 02 sensor. Has this been corrected?
    Thank you!

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

As well I see that the spoiler in pictures shows and up and down position. Assume is all functional as it should. Common problem in 996 TT.

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Is there more than one key?

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron after taking a look at all the previous service records since new, it does not appear that the pipes have been pinned or welded. The previous owner driver the car less than 1,000 miles a year and the engine has not been out of the car. No leaks. I’m going to be at Porsche later this week, so I’ll ask them.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Lombard_RAC Good question on the coolant lines. I’d have to go through all the previous service intervals, from the original owner. To my understanding, all the service records should be listed in the posting. I’ll take a peek, but I don’t recall seeing it mentioned. Happy Bidding!

  • rickmilligan928 1 year, 10 monthsago

  • Lombard_RAC (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron I don't see anything specific (on CarFax etc.) but considering the "signed" 1-owner do we know if the coolant lines have been pinned/welded?

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@navchak Thank you very much. Happy Bidding.

The listing has been updated to reflect the correct wheels.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Lombard_RAC the wheels on the car are polished, not chrome. These are the only wheels with the car. I did locate a set of Sport Technic wheels in the U.K. For $2,600 for the set which is very reasonable. I am going to pull a wheel off the car and have Porsche verify the part number. Happy bidding.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Lombard_RAC Thanks very much. There are polished, not chrome. Happy Bidding!

  • Lombard_RAC (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron Sorry to hear this, speedy recovery.
"The window sticker shows that the wheels are 18” Sport Technic. The wheels look similar to the Turbo Twist wheels. I’ll remove one of the wheels and verify the part number with Porsche."
Thank you, I just know those are not Techos and look to be chrome/polished turbo twists. The part # will help determine for sure. Thx

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Cboudak The interior is all Natural Brown Leather with black carpeting as specified on the factory window sticker. Happy Bidding.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Lombard_RAC Hi there: The window sticker shows that the wheels are 18” Sport Technic. The wheels look similar to the Turbo Twist wheels. I’ll remove one of the wheels and verify the part number with Porsche.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    Is that a deviated interior?

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 Hi there, sadly I’m selling my car due to severe medical illness. Thanks very much for asking. Happy bidding, it’s an outstanding car.

  • Lombard_RAC (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@PCARMARKET Thank you, I had also asked this question as it was showing up on the mobile (odd). The description still needs up dating though

"This example comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on factory-optioned 18” Sport Techno wheels with colored Porsche-crested center caps"

Those appear to be chrome/polished Turbo Twists not Sport Techno wheels.
    Thx

  • PCARMARKET 1 year, 10 monthsago

@skywalker27612 The CARFAX is located at the bottom of the listing gallery

  • skywalker27612 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    CarFax report?
I see a recent temp tag. Why selling so quickly?

  • PCARMARKET 1 year, 10 monthsago

The description in this listing has been updated.

  • Lombard_RAC (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Toddcitron Are the original Sport Techno wheels included with the sale? Those appear to be chrome or polished twists.
Can the carfax be posted (or emailed)?
I used to live 5mins from where those pics were taken! (small world)

@FXRcR1 Hi there, Todd Citron (seller) here. PCAR has made the necessary corrections. Sorry again for the inconvenience. Happy Bidding. It’s a fabulous car.

  • Toddcitron (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

I’ve spoken to representatives at PCAR and they assured me this would be corrected. The car IS A 6-SPEED. Very sorry for the miscue.

  • FXRcR1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Write up refers to this as a Tiptronic in at least 3 places. Car deserves better.
