Up for auction is this 2003 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet finished in spectacular Orient Red Metallic.  996’s are making a comeback as the demand for mechanical, naturally aspirated 911’s increases.  This 2-owner Carrera cab is stated to have been responsibly driven and maintained by its owner in Maryland for the past 6 years.  With only 37,373 miles showing, this cabriolet is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.

The Orient Red Metallic paint is fully original and stated to be in above average condition.  Garage-kept, the paint only shows standard road going wear including a few blemishes on the hood and front bumper and one small dent on rear passenger wheel well.  The black convertible top is said to be in excellent working condition.  Exterior factory add-ons include stainless steel exhaust tips and high power Xenon headlamps.  This car rides on factory lightweight 18” alloy Carrera wheels with center colored Porsche crests and are stated to be in excellent condition.

The black leather interior of this 996 is in excellent condition with only minor wear on the passenger seat.  The seller does note that the original head unit is currently inoperable.  Included in this car’s extensive custom build sheet are heated full-power seats finished in supple leather with optional Porsche crest on headrests.  These luxurious seats are supportive and make year round driving exceptionally comfortable.  With an original sticker price of $89,485 in 2003, this car is loaded with additional factory options including:

  • Porsche Windstop (deflector)
  • Bose High End Sound Package
  • Black floor mats with Porsche Lettering
  • Power Seat Package
  • Metal Door Sill Insignia
  • Aluminum Finished Instrument Dials

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6 liter flat six engine, this cabriolet produces 315HP accelerating it from 0-60 in under 5 seconds.  The seller states this 6-speed manual 996 shifts, steers, and handles extremely well.  The clean Carfax reports that this Carrera has been meticulously cared for and maintained by its 2 owners since purchase.

The seller is including original books and service records as well as 2 sets of keys.

This 996 is mechanically sound and ready to be enjoyed, perfect for a driver seeking the visceral experience of an analog 911.  Do not miss out on this unique and ready to drive 996 cab!

@broski In fact, in the 3.6 cars, it is a problem with more than 8% of them. Statistics outweigh anecdotal evidence. Glad that you've not had a problem yet.

IMS issue is overacted in my opinion and in fact was a problem with very few cars.
What I do with my car is that I change the oil every 3000 miles and we open the filter and look for metal debris plus have a magnetic plug, so far in 65k miles have not seen any metal and therefore will not be changing the IMS (of course this is my opinion and I an not giving advice here)
My mechanic who is a 30 year plus expert and worked his first 20 years at Alan Jonson Porsche and later at Porsche of San Diego has told me that in his time he was only seen 2 cases come through his shops

@cmrusaf , the radio just stopped working about a month ago. our mechanic thinks it's a short in the radio itself. a new radio is about 250 dollars.
my porsche mechanic said that since we replace the oil every 3 to 5 k miles we should'nt have any problems with the bearing. i've been told that if you drive a 911 hard with dirty oil then you;ll have an issue with the bearing going out. we've owned the car for 6 years and we never had any mechanical issues,

Just making sure I understand 2 parts of this ad--1) the head unit that's not working is JUST the radio, and 2) status of the IMS bearing? Thank you.
