Produced by Daimler Truck since 1951, the Unimog is a range of utility vehicles used in a variety of roles and all-terrain settings around the world. This Unimog U500 is said to be one of 184 examples distributed throughout North America by Freightliner dealers between 2002 and 2006. The single-cab truck comes finished in blue and features a three-way tilting bed, hydraulic pneumatic hookups, triple-locking differentials, portal axles, and a turbodiesel engine driving all four wheels through an 8-speed preselector transmission. It was purchased in California, where it remains titled, and has been driven approximately 2k miles since the owner’s acquisition about 4 years ago. Now showing just over 17k miles on the odometer, this rare North American Unimog is being offered for auction out of Utah.
The cab is finished in blue and tilts forward to allow engine access. The front end includes a regulated power takeoff (PTO) shaft for additional machinery, defroster lines are embedded in the windshield, and an electrically operated fabric cover is provided for the tilting bed. Hydraulic and pneumatic hookups are located at all four corners and at the center for a total of five locations. They are rated according to their output with small, medium, and large pressures for powering tools such as snow blowers, mowers, plows, and shredders. Additional LED lights are also mounted at the front and back for a brilliant off-road view. The right rear fender has a replacement aluminum mudguard, and the rear light is bent slightly. The truck rides on 22.5” rims paired with 445/65 Michelin tires and includes preparations for a central tire inflating system (not included).
The cabin is trimmed in multicolor cloth upholstery and lined with durable rubber mats. It features air conditioning, power windows, and an ISRI Isringhausen driver’s air seat. Controls for the differentials, lights, cutoffs, range selectors, and hydraulic systems are mounted in the center console along with a joystick and pneumatic emergency brake.
A 6.4-liter turbodiesel inline-six engine is mated to an 8-speed preselector manual transmission offering 24 gears forward and 8 gears in reverse. The drivetrain includes full-time four-wheel-drive, a center differential selectable transfer case, and portal axles with locking differentials at the front and rear. The seller adds that this U500 includes a new slow-discharge battery at a cost of $450 and along with new smaller batteries for the electronics.
This sale will include a clean California title.

Yes. I drove it home to Salt Lake City from San Francisco when I bought it several years ago. It maxes out at 70 mph.

Love this! The older ones were pretty slow. Can you drive this on the freeway?
