Making its debut at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, the R230 generation SL-Class was Mercedes-Benz’s flagship grand tourer in the early 2000s and featured an advanced retractable hardtop roof system. This 2003 SL500 is finished in Black over a Stone leather interior and is equipped with xenon headlights, the AMG Styling Package, 18″ AMG Monoblock alloy wheels, Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, COMAND navigation, a premium Bose sound system, heated multi-contour seats, and more. This SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania showing approximately 90k miles on the odometer.
Finished in Black (040U), this SL500 features the AMG Styling Package which adds a front spoiler and side skirts. It rides on optional 18″ 5-spoke AMG Monoblock alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires and additional equipment includes fog lights and dual exhaust outlets. The seller reports that the retractable hardtop has had a cylinder service completed recently and the CARFAX report notes the vehicle was reported stolen in June of 2011 and was subsequently recovered. The cabin is upholstered in Stone leather with burled walnut veneer accenting the dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels. Equipment includes heated and ventilated multi-contour seats with memory settings, a Bose premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a CD changer, COMAND navigation, cruise control, and a retractable wind deflector. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are said to function as intended.
Powered by a 5.0-liter M113 V8 engine, the SL500 sends up to 302 HP and 339 lb.-ft. of torque to its rear wheels by way of a 5-speed 5G-Tronic automatic transmission. Standard performance features include Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Automatic Slip Control (ASR), and Sensotronic electrohydraulic brake control. Service completed in June of 2024 is said to include the replacement of three tires, front and rear brake pads, rotors, and sensors, along with both batteries, windshield wipers, air, oil, & cabin filters, a trunk strut, and the passenger door regulator. Additionally, the front center top cylinder lock was rebuilt, new front and rear ABC suspension solenoid seals were fitted with a system flush and new fluid, the car was aligned, and an oil change was performed.
