A Designo Launch Edition for the 2003 model year, this specially appointed Mercedes-Benz SL500 comes finished in Designo Silver over a Black leather interior along with premium 18” wheels, Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, COMAND navigation, multicontour seats, and Designo Alcantara headliner. It is said to have remained under the care of its original owner while being consistently driven and maintained through local Mercedes-Benz dealers. Showing under 37k miles on the odometer, this V8-powered SL Roadster is now being offered for auction by its seller on the East Coast.
This Launch Edition comes finished in exclusive Designo Silver (029) paintwork with a matching retractable hardtop, bi-xenon headlamps, polished dual exhaust outlets, fog lights, and fender air vents. It rides on 18” five-spoke wheels dressed in Michelin tires from 2011. The seller notes some cracks are present in the tires and the front bumper was previously refinished by Mercedes Benz to address a minor parking lot scuff. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing the minor damage reported in 2015.
The cabin is appointed with Black leather complemented by burred walnut veneers and a Designo Alcantara headliner. Driver amenities include COMAND navigation, heated and ventilated multicontour seats, memory settings, a premium Bose sound system, a CD changer, and automatic climate control. The seller notes some waves on the passenger-side dashboard upholstery, a common flaw present on the R230 generation.
A 5.0-liter M113 V8 engine rated at 302 HP and 339 lb.-ft of torque is paired with a 5-speed 5G-Tronic automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels. The seller states the car was serviced consistently while under the care of its original owner, and the CARFAX report shows a history of maintenance including new spark plugs, brake fluid, A/C service, and battery replacement by a Mercedes-Benz dealer at 33k miles. The seller adds that the car was never left to sit for extended periods and the owner regularly operated the convertible top to ensure its functionality.
This sale will include a clean title.

@tomneedles Hello. Sarasota, Florida (west coast Florida just an hour south of Tampa).
@IvorPeter I guess PCM will have to answer that for you because I did not write the description. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful on this.
Seller, where is the car located on the East Coast?
I haven’t heard the term “burred” walnut as regards the wood before. Is that a typo by chance? Should it not be “burled” walnut. Please pardon my ignorance if termanology has moved on, and I have not.

@Buntz319 I asked the seller about the air being charged twice ~ she said she took the car to Mercedes because the air wasn't working. It worked fine for a bit of time then quit working again and the car was dropped off at Mercedes again. At that point it was determined the dryer had to be replaced, a simple Freon charge was not fixing her issue. The air has worked great since then - no issues with the air now.
@nowvoyager Yes, I would recommend replacing the tires just to be safe. They have plenty of tread on them, but the age of them is not good.

hi porteng, I noticed A/C recharged twice in about a month..any issue, working properly? Thx
Gorgeous car. I wonder if you could tell me the last time it was driven?
I assume the tires need to be replaced now, is that fair to say?

Hello enthusiast! The car is here on consignment from the original owner. Carfax shows multiple owners because the seller transferred the title to her company, then out of her company, then a divorce, then into a trust, then into her son's name so she could title it in Florida. Long story, but the same woman that bought this car brand new is the seller.
Please feel free to ask me questions and I'll get answers for you promptly. This is a superb low-mile example of an R230 body style SL.
