The S55 AMG was introduced in the year 2000 as the high-performance version of the W220 S-Class sedan, equipped with a hand-built supercharged 5.4L V8 producing nearly 500 HP along with larger brakes and a sport-tuned Active Body Control (ABC) suspension. This 2003 example was ordered in Black over a Graphite/Anthracite AMG leather interior and was delivered new in Florida before spending time in Illinois and New York. Previously listed on PCARMARKET, this S55 AMG shows approximately 67k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
Finished in Black (040U), this S55 AMG can be differentiated from a standard S-Class by its revised front fascia, side skirts, V8 Kompressor badging on the front fenders, and quad chrome exhaust tips. Other details include bi-xenon headlamps with washers, an electric sunroof, and silver-painted brake calipers with black AMG lettering. The seller reports a scratch on the passenger rear quarter panel has been touched up and notes some road rash behind the rear wheels. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory 18” AMG split five-spoke wheels are mounted with Continental Extreme Contact Sport Plus tires from 2019.
The interior is upholstered in Graphite/Anthracite AMG leather accented by burled walnut wood trim. Amenities include heated and ventilated power-operated front seats with massage functions and 3-position memory, heated rear seats, automatic climate control, and a power rear sunblind. The original COMAND navigation unit has been replaced with a JVC touchscreen stereo head unit equipped with Bluetooth functionality, a rear-view camera, Sirius XM satellite radio, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto. The seller reports the factory clock is currently inoperable.
The hand-crafted 5.4L supercharged V8 was factory rated at 493 HP and 516 lb.-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and Speedshift buttons mounted to the steering wheel. The S55 AMG can accelerate to 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and reach an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Performance features include cross-drilled 14.2" discs with 8-piston calipers at the front, 13" rear discs with 4-piston calipers at the rear, and the Active Body Control suspension which electronically increases spring rates to aid against body roll. An oil service was completed in preparation for sale and the CARFAX report shows a consistent history of maintenance including an inspection carried out by Mercedes Benz of Goldens Bridge, New York, in May of 2022.
This sale will include owner's manuals and a clean title.

rsabeebe i have uploaded pictures of the rear quarters behind the wheels...as i stated, the rash is very slight, but there are a few dots there. I also uploaded a picture of the scratch...it too is hard to see, but look closely for the touch up. I also uploaded two videos: one showing the car rising, the other is the dash indicator that the car is rising. In order to see the videos, you have to click on the image at the end of the pictures list, then click on "The image" hotlink that appears, and then click on the downloaded video to view it. Any other questions, please let me know. Thank you.

The subwoofer is easily removed, but it does not make the system loud -- unless you want it to. What it does do is make the sound richer. All aspects of the sound system are fully adjustable through the JVC unit, which is quite sophisticated.
thank you for the reply on my questions. a video of the operational suspension and pics of the minor blems would be appreciated. thanks very much. i assume the sub is in integral part of the current sound system. removable without affecting the rest of the sound system? i'm just not a loud stereo guy. hard mounted at the moment?
I should add: the stock speakers are still in place. The only addition to the speaker system is a subwoofer, which is visible in the trunk photo.
Thank you for your questions rsabeebe. Every feature on the car works. The only thing that is inoperable is the factory clock, but the new sound system has a clock, so that issue is addressed. I will work with PCar to post a video of the ABC in operation. I don’t not have the original radio, but if a purchaser wanted the old technology those systems can be purchased on EBay for around $200. They are plentiful. I will also add pictures of the scratch and road rash. Both are very minor and hard to see, but in the interest of full discourse I wanted to report any known imperfections. I’m out of town today so will get items posted tomorrow. Any further questions please let me know. Thank you.
@vmarrone Can you please confirm that heat, cooling, and massaging functions of the front seats are functional? Same for the rear heated seated and rear sun blind?
Any chance the original radio and stock surround are available?
ABC system fully functional at the moment. Any chance you can provide a video showing it lowering and raising?
I looked through the pics, but did not see anything that specifically showed the repaired scratch or the 'road rash'. Are there particular pics that show those areas well?
Thanks!

Welcome Bidders!
This S55 is in amazing condition, made even better with the updated entertainment system, installed by Broken Silence Custom Car Audio of Greenwich (they service audio systems for Miller Motor Cars), that enables you to utilize all the features of your Apple or Android phone in the car. I love everything about this car, but recently moved to Northern Westchester, where half the side roads are unpaved, so time for an SUV.
No disappointments here - any questions, please let me know!
Thanks.
