Now available for auction is this 2003 Mercedes-Benz W220 S55 AMG finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a Graphite leather interior. Based on the fourth-generation W220 S-Class, the S55 AMG was the high-performance version of Mercedes’ flagship luxury sedan featuring a supercharged V8 engine producing over 490 HP and 500 lb.-ft of torque.  The S55 also offers larger brakes, Active Body Control, and AMG-specific styling.  Acquired by the current owner about two years ago, this S-Class has since undergone several notable service items and is now being offered out of North Carolina with approximately 77k miles on the odometer.

Presented in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744U), this S55 AMG can be differentiated from a standard S-Class by its revised front fascia, side skirts, V8 Kompressor badging on the front fenders, and chrome quad exhaust tips. Other exterior details include bi-xenon headlamps with washers, an electric sunroof, and silver-painted brake calipers with black AMG lettering. The seller notes some minor cosmetic imperfections throughout the exterior, and CARFAX shows minor damage to have occurred to the front end under previous ownership in 2013 resulting in less than $500 worth of repairs.  Detailed photos are available in the gallery along with the CARFAX report. The factory 18” AMG split five-spoke wheels are currently mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires showing date codes from 2017.

Occupants are seated within a luxurious Graphite Nappa leather cabin with burled walnut trim on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The 14-way power-adjustable front seats feature heating and cooling functions as well as dynamic side bolsters, perforated leather inserts, and AMG badging on the backrests. The leather-wrapped steering wheel includes paddle shifters and sits ahead of AMG-specific instrumentation including a 200-MPH speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Other amenities include automatic climate control, Mercedes COMAND navigation, soft-close doors, a rear sunshade, and keyless entry. The seller reports the driver’s side seat bolsters momentarily inflate on their own when opening the driver’s door, and the SRS light will come on intermittently upon entry from the passenger side. The seller also notes the lid of the center cup holder to be slightly loose. All other accessories are said to be working properly at this time.

The S55 AMG is powered by a handbuilt 5.4L supercharged V8 engine which was factory rated at 493 HP and 516 lb.-ft of torque. It allows the S55 to reach 60 MPH in as little as 4.6 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission. The S55 was also equipped with large 8-piston brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors in the front along with 4-piston calipers in the rear. The Active Body Control (ABC) system replaces standard anti-roll bars and uses a hydraulic system with sensors atop each coil spring to increase spring rates and keep the vehicle level at all times. The seller states the brakes have been replaced recently under their ownership along with both ABC supply lines, handbrake cable, parking brake assembly, and the central locking vacuum pump (PSE).

This sale will include a clean title, original owner’s manuals, factory toolkit, and full-sized spare. Delivering high performance and luxurious accommodations, this supercharged S55 AMG presents a great opportunity to own a future Mercedes-Benz classic.

Sorry for all of the late questions, but answers here will be very helpful!
    # of owners - 5?
How many keys do you have?
    Rear window shade work?
Picture 41 - can you explain what kind of controller (assuming audio) is in the slide out drawer next to the 12v outlet?
Does this have soft close doors/trunk and are they functioning properly?
    Seat heaters working fine?
Suspension noises or settling from ABC?
What if any repairs would a new owner need to plan for, whether due to current condition or upcoming miles/age?
