Regarded as one of the greatest sports sedans of all time, the E39-generation BMW M5 is equipped with a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This 2003 BMW M5 is finished in Jet Black over a black Nappa Heritage leather interior. It features a Dinan S1 performance upgrade package including Stage 2 engine software, a carbon fiber high-flow cold air intake system, a free-flow exhaust, strut tower braces, a Stage 1 suspension setup, a Dinan decklid badge, and a numbered registration plaque under the hood. Acquired by the seller from the Saratoga Automobile Museum collection in 2024, this Dinan-modified M5 is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey with approximately 76k miles showing on the odometer.

The M5 is distinguished from a standard E39 5-Series by its unique front fascia, side skirts, rear valence, M side mirrors, and trunk lid spoiler. This example is finished in Jet Black with Chrome Shadow 18” Style 65 wheels. Equipment includes xenon headlights, headlamp washers, fog lights, heated power mirrors, an electric sunroof, Dinan quad exhaust tips, and a Dinan trunk lid badge. The exterior was recently treated with a ceramic coating and is said to be in excellent overall condition. The seller notes that the right front fender shows slightly higher paint meter readings, which suggests the area was previously refinished. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with black Nappa Heritage leather upholstery complemented by matching carpets, headliner, and burl walnut wood trim. Accessories include heated and power-adjustable front sport seats, driver seat memory, a three-spoke M sport steering wheel, M-specific gauges, M5-branded door sills, Dinan floor mats, power windows, a remote central locking system, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and a navigation system. An aftermarket integrated detector and laser detector system has been installed. The seller notes several dim pixels on the digital instrument cluster screen.

Factory-rated at 394 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque, the 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine is equipped with individual throttle bodies and double-VANOS variable valve timing. The car features a Dinan S1 package, which provides an advertised output of 402 HP and 375 lb-ft of torque with Stage 2 engine software, a carbon fiber high-flow cold air intake system, and a free-flow exhaust. The S1 package also includes a Stage 1 suspension setup with braces for the front and rear shock towers. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller states the car is supported by a documented dealer service history, and the clutch and front brakes were recently replaced in preparation for sale.

This sale will include a toolkit, a battery trickle charger, service records, Dinan documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “We are very pleased to be able to present this beautiful, well-preserved example of one of BMW’s Iconic staples of their brand.”

I've got one of these with 10k less miles on it. It's a 2002. These are awesome when in stock form but when set up with all the Dinan goodies they are unbeatable. Let me know if you've got any questions I can help out with in regards to these cars or if you want further info on mine.

This is the first of many E39 M5's I test drove and was the only one I still think about. Something about this one feels substantial when you get into it. Congrats to the high bidder!

Nice e39 spec. Can you post pics showing the cluster with ignition on? Also cold start video showing: RPM going down to idle, exhaust pipes (hopefully not shooting out blue smoke) and engine bay with no timing chain rattle? Thanks so much.

@Evv3 3 additional pictures added of front seats. As you can hopefully see the drivers seat and passenger seat are identical. Adding a tint of color to the conditioner did not affect the color of the seat in any way.

  • EMG01 (seller) 6 days, 22 hoursago

@Evv3 thank you for the questions. All the seats were treated with a high quality conditioner. The drivers seat had more of the typical light marks in the leather so we added some color to the conditioner. All the seats match perfectly. We will get some more pictures in better lighting and post them. Overall the interior presents as almost new. Super soft and super clean. The PPI we did only revealed that there was a vibration when braking and a slight slipping of the clutch which both were addressed. The pads were not needed as they were like new. After replacing just the rotors the vibration was gone so no need to replace pads otherwise we would have.

Regarding the invoice in photo 212, was anything found during the check over? What was done to recondition the front seat and does it match the passenger seat color? Why were the pads not replaced when addressing the rotor vibration?

FYI it is hard to tell how worn the interior bits are. I think some better resolution photos without sun glare would help. This could be a good candidate to recondition- Dinan serial and final year are a big plus.
