Introduced in 1996, the first-generation Boxster recalls Porsche's early racecars with a mid-engine roadster design. This 2002 986 Boxster S is finished in Speed Yellow and equips an aftermarket TechArt Aero Kit and a 3.2-liter flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as the optional Sport Exhaust System and Porsche Stability Management. Consistently garage kept, this 986 is now being offered for auction out of South Carolina with approximately 29k on the odometer.
This example is finished in Speed Yellow and is distinguishable as a Boxster S by its red-painted brake calipers, grey front air intakes, silver rear lettering, and dual exhaust tips. Equipment includes a retractable black soft top and a speed-activated rear spoiler. An aftermarket TechArt aerokit has been fitted including flared side skirts and Speedster-style fairings along with front and rear spoilers. Additionally, 18” BBS Sport Classic II wheels have been mounted with a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires. The seller notes that the hood was refinished under previous ownership and minor signs of road wear are present, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is appointed with a pair of aftermarket black leather seats and includes factory black Porsche-designated floor mats and the Sport Touring Package which adds a wind-stop, Bose Sound System, cruise control, a 6-disc CD changer, and an onboard computer. An aftermarket Kenwood receiver with Bluetooth and navigation has been installed and the seller notes that all gauges and accessories are working properly with the exception of the setting knob for the clock.
The naturally aspirated 3.2-liter flat-six engine is rated at 250 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Optional Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Sport Exhaust System are equipped as well as fixed 4-piston brake calipers paired with ventilated discs at each corner. Recent maintenance includes an oil and filter change along with tires and axles replaced in July and August of 2022.
This sale will include a clean title.

@Carr90 Sorry, a little late in the game, but I was wondering if it was possible to cleanly remove the body kit if one so desired. Thank you!
@UniqueDriver … sorry, as far as I know they came from Porsche.
@UniqueDriver The Speedster covers are made of fiberglass and are painted Speed Yellow to perfectly match the car. They easily slip on over the top and latch in place.

Hi there, Boxster looks beautiful. Can you give a little info about the spyder-tops? What are they made out of? How do they clip on? Did you buy them yourself? Thanks in advance
@bldn10 @bldn10... Thank you and you are correct. It might be the best looking (and running) 02 Boxster on the market.

@joebatters I am not sure why P Car listed them as aftermarket. The interior is stock wit the exception of the Kenwood system
Listing states that they are aftermarket seats … they look stock to me.
Are they from a different Porsche?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@WRENCH.56 ...Thanks it is an exceptional example of a Boxster
Thanks for the explanation.
Interesting build. Not your everyday 986
Good morning all:
I just uploaded a short video of the top in operation.
@WRENCH.56 Each piece has its own padded bag. They fit in the rear trunk just perfectly.
So if you’re driving around with the Spyder component in place and it starts to rain, where can you store that body part if you raise the top?
Does it fit in the frunk or the rearward trunk?
@WRENCH.56 The top does work in the conventional manner when the Speedster mods are removed. The top works perfectly. I will post a video as soon as I can get someone to assist with the filming.
Thanks..
Does the top work in a conventional manner without having to lift out that body panel with the “Spyder” headrest pylons?
Can you please post a video of the top operating?
@joebatters The IMS has not been replaced. Frequent oil changes 2-3,000 miles max have been performed. No indication of any metal particles in the oil.
Good afternoon. I am the seller of the Speed Yellow Boxster. It is an amazing car in incredible condition. The car has been garaged its entire life and it shows. "Speedy" as my wife calls the car, looks and drives like new. I am only selling as I need to thin my Porsche collection of currently 3 cars (Cayenne, Boxster and a new to me 997.2). I keep all my cars in a climate-controlled garage and with the addition of the new 911 I have to part with the Boxster. There might not be another Boxster of this era as clean as this one for sale. I am available to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. Good luck with the auction.
Has IMS been replaced?
