Finished in Orient Red Metallic over a Graphite Grey partial leather interior, this 2002 Porsche Boxster S pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its naturally aspirated 3.2-liter flat-six engine. Factory options include the Sport Package, the Xenon Headlamp Package, roll bars painted in the exterior color, Porsche Stability Management, and more. Benefitting from replacements to the IMS bearing and clutch within the last 10k miles, this Boxster S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Mississippi.

This 986 Boxster S is finished in Orient Red Metallic with a black cabriolet top and is distinguishable from a standard Boxster by its grey front air intake grilles, matte silver rear lettering, dual center exhaust tips, and red-painted brake calipers. Options include color-crested wheel caps, the Xenon Headlamp Package, and the roll bar painted in exterior color. The seller notes minor paintwork from chipping and scratches. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in Graphite Grey partial leather and features aftermarket upholstery with red contrast diamond stitching on the seats. Amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, and a central locking system. The seller notes that the automatic window motors are starting to fail, the remote key fob is inoperable, and a faulty switch causes the ABS caution light to come on intermittently. A replacement gauge cluster has been installed showing an inaccurate odometer reading. The car's actual mileage is reported to be 53,750, with approximately 6k miles driven by the current owner.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter flat-six engine, the 986 Boxster S sends up to 250 HP and 225 lb.-ft. of torque to its rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Sport Package added Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and sport suspension. The seller reports that service documents show the IMS bearing was replaced under previous ownership in 2016, along with a clutch replacement within the last 10k miles. Recent maintenance is said to include electrical service of the cabriolet roof, power seats, gauge cluster, and headlights.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, some documentation, a box of spare parts, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I've loved this car very much, but it is time for me to focus on other financial items that have come up suddenly. It looks stunning and drives like a rocket! The new leather seats are practically untouched and everything else about the car is sound and reliable. It’s all stock, with a new IMS bearing and a new clutch less than 10k miles old. Thank you all for reading my listing, and I hope to answer any questions in the comments!”

Hello everyone - With 24 hours remaining on this listing, I have lowered the Reserve.

Please let me know if there is anything more I can provide for the car!

@Soapy All of the compromised roof parts were replaced, there is no risk of future water damage. I've driven through storms and have had no sign of water penetrating any of the seals.

  • JakeAshenden (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Soapy No this is not a flood damage vehicle. The title is clean and always has been. The repairs previously described were from a leaky roof and were all corrected. Thanks for the question!

  • Soapy (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Is this a flood damage vehicle.

  • JakeAshenden (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Backmarker I have a semi-related service document I will upload. I don't have a scanner but I will take photos and upload them to this listing for support.

To answer your question - I was told the car took on some water damage and was sent in for replacement parts. This servicing totaled just under $10,000 of electronic repairs to fix the water damage issues in 2019. The seat motors were damaged from the water, but the owner never bothered to replace the seats until he wanted to sell the vehicle. He decided to finally replace the seats in May of this year before selling to me. The seats that are in the car now are from a 2003 Boxster. I do not have documentation of the service bill for the seats, but I met the mechanic and bought the car as it was rolling out of the shop from this replacement.

In addition to the 2019 water damage servicing, the instrument cluster, radio, key lock cylinder, convertible roof components, carpeting, battery and more miscellaneous parts were replaced. More detail can be seen in the 'electronic servicing' document uploaded shortly.

The new seats were purchased for their working motors... not for their leather. It was pretty bad so I replaced the leather earlier this month.

    I hope this helps!

I understand. Perhaps the model year was 2002 but the year of manufacture was late 2001. Did the old couple explain why the seats were redone after less than 50M miles?

  • JakeAshenden (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Backmarker I've submitted the IMS document to this listing. I used the LN Engineering lookup tool with the car's VIN number to check for proof of replacement. It states 2001 which is strange, but I believe this is a mistake since the VIN number matches.

  • JakeAshenden (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

    @Backmarker Thanks for reaching out!

The CARFAX reports the latest odometer reading, which is currently Just under 102,000 miles due to a replacement to the cluster which can be seen reported in 2019. The previous owner was an older couple and did not drive the car very much - definitely not enough to go from 44,291 miles in 2017 to 95,290 miles in 2019 (seen in CARFAX). The The previous owner drove the car starting from 44,291 miles and added no more than 1,000 over their ownership. Therefore, the displayed odometer reading was just under 96,000 miles when I purchased the car with an actual motor mileage of 45,000 miles. I have since put on 6,000 miles reading just under 102,000 miles, with an actual motor mileage just over 50,000 miles. I hope this helps reduce any confusion!

As far as the IMS servicing documentation, I will go find that and publish it on this page.

Thanks for your question and please let me know if I can clarify any further.

  • Backmarker (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Car’s actual mileage reported to be under 60M while carfax shows mileage consistently climbing much higher. I assume it was a typo in the write up. Could you post a copy of the ims bearing bill?
