Finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Black interior, this 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet came factory-equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as the optional Comfort Package, Technic Package, and the Heated Front Seats Package. The car was purchased by the current owner in August 2020 and has since undergone over $14k worth of maintenance and upgrades including replacements of the clutch and flywheel along with the installation of a Fabspeed exhaust, a K&N air intake, and OEM 18” 911 Turbo hollow-spoke wheels. It also benefits from an IMS bearing and rear main seal replacement within the last 20k miles. Accompanied by over 100 pages of detailed maintenance records, this 996 is now being offered for auction out of Michigan with approximately 72k miles showing on the odometer.
This 996 is finished in Seal Grey Metallic with a black convertible top and upgraded OEM 18” 911 Turbo hollow-spoke wheels. Other equipment includes bi-xenon headlamps, integrated fog lights, Porsche-branded brake calipers, a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and colored Porsche crest wheel center caps. The seller notes the convertible top was professionally overhauled with new mechanicals in 2020, the front bumper was previously refinished, a 5-year ceramic coating was applied in 2022, and the Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires were mounted within the last 10k miles. The seller adds that some scratches are present on the hood and front bumper, and the CARFAX report shows damage to the rear end in 2004.
The Black interior includes heated and power-operated front seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and automatic climate control. Other accessories include driver’s seat position memory, a cabin wind deflector, WeatherTech rubber floor mats, a CD storage compartment, and a Porsche CDR-220 stereo. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller indicates the IMS bearing and rear main seal were replaced approximately 20k miles ago and corresponding documentation is available. The car has received a new clutch and dual-mass flywheel under current ownership along with an oil change and Blackstone oil lab analysis, a Fabspeed exhaust system, and a K&N air intake. A three-ring binder is included with over 100 pages of service history.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, the original window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This was my first and very special 911. The moment I drove it, I knew I had to purchase it. I am a long-time PCA member of the Chicago Region and was part of the PCA Chicago team for a short stint. Since this car, I have added 3 others to my collection and need to downsize. I have owned this 911 for 4 years and it has been such a great reliable sports car to have. IMS, you ask? Yes! IMS/RMS completed with full documentation ~20k miles ago. In addition, another big expense was the Cabriolet Top & mechanicals (Rams, fluids, motors) were all replaced in 2020 all new and professionally installed by Midwest performance cars in Chicago (highly reputable Porsche Master Technician Shop) interior side of the top has been maintained with proper seals (this was my first big expense, runs great, again all documented). At the same time, installed a new clutch and dual mass flywheel while out. Oil and oil analysis each oil change - documentation provided all Blackstone analyses come back with zero issues. I went through the last 4 years and spent $13,448 in maintenance and upgrades. This was to get my first 911 up to my expectations. I invested a lot in this car (both monetary and emotional) to be a nearly perfect mechanically sound driver’s car. Overall, with over $30k in service history documented, you will not find another 996 with this much-documented maintenance over the last 22 years! Currently, 72k miles will go up slightly as I will be driving for fun during weekends with my family. No issues with the car mechanically, starts right up and drives very smoothly. Fresh oil service 50 miles ago. Few scratches on the front bumper. No major dents/dings on the body. Typical wear as you would expect on a 22+ year old car. The car really needs nothing but a new owner. Driven in summer and always stored in winter in the garage with a cover and a tender. You will NOT find another 996 with this amount of maintenance history documented and in a 3-ring binder. I always say when buying a Porsche, you are not only buying the car but also the seller!”

Good morning and happy solar eclipse day! Here all day to answer questions. Sad to see this go but need to downsize. Perfect timing to get into a 911 with spring and summer coming soon! Rolling through the gears, with the top down and the fab speed exhaust / flat 6 behind you is a dream come true! Happy bidding !
Bid in the amount of $15,000
Happy Friday all! Here to answer any questions! Thanks
@Tairean thank you my friend!! Much appreciated. This was my first 911 and like to think I took very good care of it!
This looks like a really nice, well-maintained, 996 cab! I hope you get top-dollar $$ for this!
@dukeyr it’s an OEM suspension with 15mm spacers in the rear to give it a little more of an aggressive stance. Can take them out if next owner wants.
do the rear tires sit correctly in the wells? they look to stick out a bit too far and possibly seems like rear may me a bit too high. just angle of the pics?
@dukeyr if you have any additional questions please let me know! Thanks
@dukeyr hi there! Yes, at 4k it really opens up and sounds incredible all the way through the powerband!
Bid in the amount of $10,000
surprised the car is so quiet on cold start with the fabspeed. is it noticeably louder through the power band?
@gfxbt thanks man! yeah, as you know, sometimes we have to downsize! Appreciate the kind words coming from a previous 987 and 997 owner!
Can’t believe you’re selling it - it’s a great 996!
I actually know the current owner and the previous owner. They are both good friends, and I introduced them for the sale. Both are huge car guys with several cars in the collection. I’ll vouch for this car being as clean as described, and it drives extremely well (as expected based on the maintenance history).
I know, why trust a random person on the Internet? You can find me in the Porsche forums and the “other” auction sites by the same username, if you’re curious about the kind of car guy I am and, by extension, the seller.
Good luck bidding - it’s a great 996!
Also transparency re: CarFax 1 minor from 20 years ago; Previous owner did not know details. Prior to purchasing this car, I personally completed due diligence. I reached out to Davenport Iowa PD and they were able to give me information on the report. It was a minor parking lot 'backed into' another car in broad daylight. Zero issues, all cosmetic and was rectified. With that, that put my mind at ease and I did not hesitate to purchase the vehicle.
@Letsbuyone Hi there! Zero track time under my ownership and the previous. Mainly weekend car and road trips to northern Michigan!
Has the car seen any track time under your ownership
@SAABO Hi there - thanks for your comment. When I purchased the car, the previous owner had walked me through the operation. At the time I did not think anything of it, knowing these cars are 20+ yrs old. At the end of the cycle, I pull the latch down so it can close properly. Other than that, the top works flawlessly!
There seems to be a problem with top operation. Why do you have to pull the top down manually for the last 6 inches or so? The top should be fully automatic, and close and latch by itself.
Welcome all! Please reach out with any questions will respond as quickly as I can! And Yes! IMS, RMS, Clutch and Flywheel were all replaced ~20k miles ago!
