Finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Black Full Leather interior, this 2002 Porsche 996 Turbo has been extensively modified and upgraded for track use, with a 3.6L twin-turbocharged flat-six rebuilt by Pat Williams Racing and fitted with Carillo rods, Mahle pistons, GT2 intercoolers and injectors, GT2 oil pump and lines, a performance ECU tune, BMC air filters, and a TiAL Alpha 28 turbo system, paired with a rebuilt transmission by Goldcrest Motorsports including GT2 gearing, a new Sachs GT2 clutch and pressure plate, a new synchro ring set, release, and pilot bearings. The suspension has received the installation of MCS 2-way adjustable remote reservoir coilovers with Hypercoil springs, GT2 sway bars, and Tarett camber plates and drop links, with stopping power derived from custom GT3 brake calipers with 2-piece Wrightwood Racing floating rotors in front and Sebcos in the rear. The cabin has been prepped for motorsport and features a GMG half roll cage and Recaro SPG Pole Position bucket seats, Schroth 6-point safety harnesses, BK Auto fixed mount rails, and uprights. Previously listed on PCARMARKET in 2021 and now showing just under 39,020 miles on the odometer, this 996 Turbo is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of Texas.

The exterior is finished in Basalt Black Metallic (C9Z), and features upgraded aerodynamic components including a Joe Toth 3-piece front splitter, carbon fiber dive planes, a 9Lives Racing Carbon Fiber rear wing, and adjustable aluminum uprights. Carbon fiber mirror caps have also been added, and the factory sunroof was deleted and replaced with a solid metal panel. Matte paint protection film has been installed on the front bumper and roof, which was just recently replaced. The CARFAX report shows front-end damage from 2008 which resulted in the replacement and refinishing of the front bumper and hood, and the seller notes some rock chips in the paint protection film on the lower front fascia, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the complete CARFAX report. This Turbo rides on 18” APEX forged VS-5RS wheels measuring 18x9 in the front and 18x12 in the rear, mounted with Falken RT660 displaying date codes from 2021.

The cabin has been modified for track use and outfitted with a GMG half roll cage, Recaro SPG Pole Position bucket seats with custom tartan inserts, Schroth 6-point safety harnesses, and BK Auto fixed mount rails and uprights. Other modifications include a Numeric racing shifter, 996 Cup cables, a Rennline pedal set, a custom 3-spoke leather steering wheel wrapped in black perforated leather and Alcantara, an aftermarket Bluetooth stereo, and an Auto Blipper for smoother shifting.

The 3.6L twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six was rebuilt by Pat Williams Racing at a cost of over $22k, including Carillo rods, Mahle pistons, GT2 intercoolers and injectors, GT2 oil pump and lines, a performance ECU tune, BMC air filters, a stainless steel Unobtanium exhaust, and a TiAL Alpha 28 turbo system. The 6-speed manual transmission sends power to all four wheels, and has also been rebuilt by Goldcrest Motorsports with GT2 gearing, a new Sachs GT2 clutch and pressure plate, a new synchro ring set, release, and pilot bearings. The suspension has been fitted with MCS 2-way adjustable remote reservoir coilovers with Hypercoil springs, GT2 sway bars, and Tarett camber plates and drop links. Braking is handled by custom-built GT3 brake calipers paired with 2-piece Wrightwood Racing floating rotors front and Sebco calipers in the rear. The engine rebuild was carried out in 2016 at 33,849 miles and the transmission rebuild was performed in October of 2020 at 37,260 miles. Recent service includes an oil change, a full service, new silicone hoses, and new front CV boots.

This sale will include 2 keys, owner’s manuals, a car cover, a battery tender, and a PDF file containing service records dating back to 2010.

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

My 996 TT runs Great as stock !
I may try playing with the aftermarket exhaust again, now that I am smog legal, however,
not sure if I will mess with the engine tune
It's a blast to drive as is !

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Cats back on, yes, however, any exhaust mods and or engine tunes ( aftermarket ) will be noticed by the Ca. smog computer system

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Sylverlee, If the car / engine has an aftermarket tune it will have to be reset to factory
As well as any other modifications from factory specs.
I just played this game with the 2003 996 TT I recently purchased
Finally, after weeks dealing with it, replacing the factory exhaust, driving it it finally passed smog and I was able to register it

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

luis.seneriz , Hello again. Aren't you the bidder that was bidding with me for the Seal Gray 2003 996 TT recently ?
This one is a real " track toy " !

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

The problem is that some shops will look for carb certification numbers on the aftermarket parts. Right away you see non stock intercooler pipes and diverter parts, now if you go to your friendly shop slip them some Benjamin’s, he’ll yeah you are passing smog.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Sylverlee I'm no CARB expert but i think if you put cats on, drive it for 50-100 miles and let the ECU readiness monitors adjust you'll pass smog with no issues. That's all based on what i know about this car and about 996's in general. There are lots of threads on Rennlist about passing smog but it's essentially Cats and some highway driving to get the ECU ready.

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Does anyone know if besides the exhaust cat there’s anything else that needs to be done to be CA smog compliant?

@Davis_944 that's the light for the stock wing. I never saw it all year but it started again recently, but only on occasion. I think there's a plug in fix for it. I'll get that taken care of before it ships.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Davis_944 yeah, all that would happen is you might not have the full beans 550whp. Or add some octane booster.

  • Davis_944 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

What's the red light in the gauge cluster in the driving video?

  • Davis_944 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Thanks all I have out here is 91

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Davis_944 I've only run 93 but it would run 91 if needed. It's still on a stock ecu so it compensates for octane.

  • Davis_944 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

What octane is it tuned for?

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Evening all, I’ve got a 6am flight but will be online for the last few hours of the auction. Just a quick reminder, this car would take 110-120k to recreate and someone will get it for a fraction of that. Good luck bidders and thanks for being interested.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , thanks for the details on that and the other owners plans related to the engine build.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Tangerine997 yes, i understand that invoice and his concerns. This was the previous owner and after the motor was built they had boost targets set to deliver 650whp, around 1.5 bar but it was too peaky. Mind you the motor was built using components for 750whp. New wastegates were installed and the most boost I've seen now was 1.2 bar. The wastegate spring now won't allow for more boost. I've put over 1000 miles on the car since that invoice and the motor is awesome.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , ok but I was hoping that getting a fresh DME might shed some light on pic 165 the invoice from 4-9-21 after the rebuild in 2016.
Comment from the tech about the boost and not wanting to continue for fear of blowing the engine.
    Any thoughts on that.
    Thanks.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Tangerine997 Sorry but unfortunately the week got away from me. The motor is very solid though, built in 2016 with premium parts by one of the best engine builders in the business. It would easily cost more than $30-35k today.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , any update on the DME report.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Foxtrot Included with the sale are the original radio and cd holder, one set of front track pads and one full set of Front and Rear pads plus the rear seats if someone wanted to remove the cage and install the seats. I have have a set of forged wheels with Hoosiers i could work a deal on for the winning bidder but if not local you'd have to work that out with your shipper.

  • Foxtrot (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Seller Due to the extensive modifications of your car; what is included in the sale that was original to your turbo? Also, what spares do you have that come with the car (rotor rings, pads, wheel sets, etc., etc.? Thank you for your video post as well...

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , looks to be a bit more then average driving. Nice job!

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Video just posted of a practice day at COTA last December before the WRL race. This is a race car group and I'm probably the only street car out there. As you can see it keeps up with everyone just fine and all cars should be on 200TW tires. I'm an average driver with race experience driving an average pace and not pushing the car as you can hear. It hits 163 on the back straight and the brakes haul the car down amazingly well. Enjoy

@Foxtrot hi and no problem with the double question. There are no cats installed currently but the exhaust manufacturer has some you could install in 20 mins with hand tools.
As for video, i do have some Cota video that I can try and get uploaded. Might take me a day or two.

  • Foxtrot (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Seller My apologies for a quick double post...does the exhaust still have the cats?

  • Foxtrot (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Seller Since it is set up for track; do you have any track video links you can share?

  • Tangerine997 2 years, 4 monthsago

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Afternoon everyone, i wanted to add a few comments. First off, i have the original radio and cd holders if anyone wants those. I also have every maintenance record, the ones you see here, in physical form as well as PDF, all will be conveyed to the new owner. Records go back to 2008.
Lastly, if anyone is interested in keeping the car registered and titled in Montana I can make it very easy. For $500 the LLC can be transferred to your name thereby forgoing retitling and registering. It takes 24 hours and 2 simple forms thru the Montana law firm I use. This LLC only contains the Porsche now so it wouldn't be any issue for me.

Beautiful car! Sorry if I missed it, but does the car still have a.c.?

  • Chim2_SFR (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt Thank you very much. I'm familiar with the fitment guide but there are a few choices I was unsure about. I really appreciate the info. I think your right on the 18s, and the additional sidewall gives a little room for some side roll in the tire for a more behaved car in the corners. Not to mention helping keep you filings in your teeth on the street. Again, complements on the stance on the car. Looks like you nailed it!

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Chim2_SFR No problem, happy to provide feedback. In my opinion 18s fit this car properly and i personally would not run 19s but that's a preference thing in addition to better ride quality of the 18s and cheaper tire options. These Apexs are 9" ET46 front and 12"ET 45 rear and they have a very nice fitment guide, i'd link it but PCAR seems to block url links. I'm running F&R spacers, 5mm i think to get the tire away from the boost hoses in the rear and the fender liner in the front. Plus they look just a little better in my opinion.

  • Chim2_SFR (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Sure wish there was an edit button....... 18" vs 19" and "spacers"

  • Chim2_SFR (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Love the stance on the car, and appreciate the 18" wheel for track use. I know you're here to sell a car and not to provide tips on others people's builds, so I apologize in advance. But would you mind sharing the offsets on the wheels and the thickness of any spaces you may be running? I've been going back and forth on the choose between 19" and 19" rims, but I prefer the additional side wall height for the track and handling.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@luis.seneriz it does not change throttle response.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Have you noticed any increase in throttle response with the blip? Thanks

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@luis.seneriz Hi and thanks for the bid. I love the auto blipper on the track or for spirited driving. This car is very quick, think 991 GT3 speeds. And having this there when diving into braking zones just makes things easier for us "non-professional" drivers. It's a simple on/off button and the blipper can be adjusted to your clutching style with the 2 knobs. I installed it myself following manufacturer instructions. It was fairly simple with the hardest part being getting myself under the dash. It's off by default so it won't interfere in normal operation.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Hi pretty nice built. How do you like the autoblip? What does it do to the car? Did you install it or was it there when you bought the car. Thanks I’m local here in Katy Texas.

    dyno tested?

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Tangerine997 yes, of course, should be able to get the DME before the weekend. I forgot about the shifter and cables, that made a big difference. The vinyl is on the roof and hood, it can be removed if someone wanted.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , thanks for the quick response.
A DME report would be nice for all bidders not just me for some piece of mind when purchasing a car like this.
Really like the numeric shifter, nice touch.
The vinyl wrap you did, what parts of the car has it.
I'll send you an IM so we can talk live rather than this back and forth.
    Very interested in the car.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Tangerine997 I haven't ever pulled a DME on it but if it's important to you I can bring it by the shop later this week. I think it takes them about 30 mins. I do know the motor was built for around 750whp and is at 550whp now so it's far from being stressed. I drove it at COTA once and at Eagle's Canyon once, the rest of the miles under me have been around town.
I installed the new rear aero, front lip, exhaust, wheels and tires, auto blipper, boost hoses, new vinyl wrap and seat inserts. The rest was done by the previous owner.
I used to race Spec E46 and am building a Spec Boxster now and can't have 2 track cars. My wife is only so understanding.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ubnt , thanks for confirming it's street legal status.
With the very impressive service records I was not sure if I missed the DME report or is that a non issue with having the performance and race upgrades it has for the track.
Just trying to get some details out of the way before I dig deeper into the overall build and what if any mods you are responsible for.
    Thanks again.

  • ubnt (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Tangerine997 Hey and thanks for the comment and question.
It's most definitely street legal and i drive it around Dallas. It currently doesn't have cats installed but that's a 20 min swap over if needed. The Unobtanium exhaust currently has test pipes installed but he makes a cat setup that can pop right in. You'd then drive for about 50-100 miles and let the ecu ready itself for the emissions tests if needed. I ran cats on the old muffler setup but ditched them in favor of better turbo sound.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    What an amazing build.
First question that comes to mind is it street legal with the current setup.
    Thanks.
