One of the least common 996 models, the Targa includes a unique sliding glass roof system and was the first Porsche 911 to feature an opening rear hatch. This 2002 example is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior and was factory optioned with exclusive flared rocker panels, Porsche crested headrests, and 18” light alloy Carrera wheels along with a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. It has also been upgraded with an LN Engineering IMS bearing kit as well as an aftermarket cat-back exhaust, Pelican Super Clutch, and DCT Motor Sports steering wheel. Showing approximately 124k miles on the odometer, this Carrera Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Illinois.
This 996 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features optional GT3-style flared rocker panels (X76) as well as 18” light alloy Carrera wheels with colored Porsche center crests. The seller notes imperfections are present on the hood and wheels, and some corrosion is visible on the undercarriage. The car rides on Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires with date codes from 2016 and 2017. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report showing previous ownership in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
The black partial leather interior includes the Power Seat Package, Porsche-crested headrests, the Heated Front Seats Package, and the Technic Package which adds Bi-Xenon headlights and a HiFi sound system. Some signs of wear are noted on the front seats, center console, and shift knob, and a trim piece is missing from the aftermarket Kenwood head unit surround. The power Targa top system is currently inoperable seller states the Targa top control module will be replaced prior to the sale.
A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine provides up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. An aftermarket cat-back exhaust system was installed by a previous owner and a service in August 2022 included an LN Engineering IMS bearing kit, new shift cables, and a Pelican Super Clutch kit. @luis.seneriz 45 minutes from Ohare airport! Yes the targa top module just arrived from Germany and will be installed by Riggs brothers before the vehicle is picked up by next owner!
Two questions how far from ohaire is your facility? I’m right to understand that the targa roof will be working before picking up the car?
Bid in the amount of $17,996
@Zradub I bought this car from San Francisco last year and then I put $12,000 in service in this vehicle! It does not have any rust whatsoever!
Bid in the amount of $17,500
Why would have a dry Western car have rust?
@Zradub Most of our clients will Uber from the airport to our facility. We have a pick up time between one and 5 PM Monday through Friday. If you need a 90 Day drive away permit, the cost of this is $27. Thank you.
@Zradub I cannot tell you what the reserve is. I cannot tell you if we have met the reserve you will have to bid on the vehicle till the end of the auction to see if you have met reserve and if you have won, we appreciate your interest in this vehicle. Thank you.
Am I allowed to ask what reserve is?
Got into a bidding war earlier today and saw when we crossed reserve threshold. Can you tell me the reserve? I have a price in mind and want to see if it is good enough.
Bid in the amount of $15,000
@collectorcars Can you do a pick up from O’Hare? And can you provide a plate as I need to drive across 35% of the country? Thanks.
@Zradub We are 45 mins from ohare airport! It’s not loud. Car came factory with sport exhaust sounds similar to that!
@Zradub Just the photo seats have been dyed and reconditioned! And passenger side seat has been reupholstered by Riggs brothers Naperville! Tires are mismatched as shown in pics.
@collectorcars You didn’t really drive it in the video, is it loud? Any drone? Any chance of making it even (left side looks horizontal, right not so much? Thanks.
Naperville is pretty close to O’Hare, right?
Sorry for the non-stop questions. Advert says shod with Pirelli, but pics show rear Pirelli and Bridgestone fronts.
And is there something on the lower passenger seat inner bolster? Worn or discolored, or is it the photo?
@Zradub I do not know the brand of the exhaust.
Bid in the amount of $12,000
@collectorcars The advert said LN bearing kit. What brand is the cat-back?
@Zradub we used all OEM parts. It’s a Stock brand new clutch.
@Zradub that must be a clerical error.
Bid in the amount of $9,996
Page 69 of 73. Mid page. Has slightly greater miles in California than it does later in Illinois.
@collectorcars It was on the last page of the carfax if you look at the page which ends the service history.
Is the new clutch similar to stock clamping force-wise? Or is it stronger (or weaker)? Same weight to push pedal?
Lighter flywheel?
Thanks for your help.
@Zradub what is the discrepancy please explain so I can give you more info.
@Zradub I have all the service records from when we did the work the bearing that is used is not an L and engineering bearing. We use the LN tool kit to install the IMS bearing.
And can you speak to the mileage discrepancy between 2022 and 2023?
Do you have the actual invoice and LN sticker for the IMS bearing replacement. The paper you uploaded is a quote. Thanks.
@Flyinace2000 Yes it arrived and we popped it in! Took 5 seconds!
Did the trim piece for the radio every get installed?
@Zradub no leaks.
Bid in the amount of $7,500
Hatch leak? Heard it’s common. Thanks

Pretty car with a great stance. Wheels and body add-ons are a nice touch. I cannot say enough about the amazing driving experience in these rare glass top beauties! I always consider them the executive's 911. GLWTA
@NHPorscheguy thanks for your interest. The car did not sell on c&b due to the high bidder not completing the transaction.
@audios22 Thanks for the kind words!
Nice Targa. I considered this when it was on Cars an Bids. Can you share why the car didn't transact there? https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9aBGBzXm/2002-porsche-911-targa
A perfect example of a Porsche worthy of 123K miles, and more. It just goes to show, that taking of a car will take car of you for a long, long time. My 986 has 45K miles and sill pulling strong at 3K RPM. Engineering long life into a car. That's what Porsche is about. And over 70% of all Porsches built are still on the road. Can't say that about Ferrari. GLWTA
Hi thank you for your viewing our listing! We look forward to giving this Targa a great new home! I purchased this for myself last year and put it through a full service. We have had the ims bearing replaced, rear main seal, brand new clutch, as well as a service completed with new brakes.
