As the basis for the original Porsche 911 GT3 road car, the 996 GT3 Cup is a purpose-built factory race car developed for the Porsche Supercup series featuring a legendary 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine. The updated 996.2 version was introduced in 2002 featuring improved aerodynamics, cooling, and weight savings along with a more powerful engine rated at 375 HP. This 2002 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was delivered new to Manthey Racing at the Nürburgring on January 7, 2002, and was reportedly number 29 of 131 produced. The team driver was Alex Davison of Melbourne, Australia, who raced the car during the 2002 Formula One season in the Porsche Michelin Cup Racing Series. The car finished 6th overall in the Supercup series and won the United States Grand Prix Porsche Supercup race before being sent back to Porsche’s racing facility in Weissach, Germany, to be completely refurbished. Upon completion of the factory restoration, the car was sold by Manthey Racing to a private owner and air freighted back to the U.S. in December 2002. It changed hands several times before it was purchased by the current owner in 2022 who restored the original livery with the help of Manthey Racing. The car was then presented for participation at the 2023 Rennsport Reunion in Monterey California. Grand Marshall Patrick Long vetted the authenticity and presentation of the car and recalled racing against Davison at the wheel. The car was accepted for both Concourse judging and exhibition racing, winning the Concourse award in Class 6. An authentic piece of Porsche Motorsport history, this 996 GT3 Cup is now being offered for auction out of California.
For the 2002 season, the updated 996.2 GT3 was introduced featuring Turbo-style headlamps, a larger adjustable rear wing, and reshaped air inlets that provided significant improvements in cooling and lift reduction. This example was factory-restored to its original all-white appearance in 2002 and received new vinyl graphics replicating its period Manthey Racing Supercup livery under current ownership in 2022. Equipment includes lightweight Lexan windows, hood and decklid pins, an emergency cutoff switch, integrated tow hooks, dual center-mounted tailpipes, red brake calipers, center-lock 18” BBS racing wheels, and black wing uprights with GT3 logo cutouts.
This lightweight racing cockpit features an integrated roll cage, a carbon fiber OMP racing bucket seat, and a three-spoke Porsche-branded MOMO steering wheel. Other accessories include safety nets, a Schroth racing harness, a fire suppression system, air jacks, and an AIM digital dash.
For 2002, the GT3 Cup’s 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine was updated with Bosch Motoronic 3.1 and a revised stainless-steel exhaust for an output of 380 HP and 280 lb.-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels and the braking system includes fixed 6-piston front calipers paired with 350mm cross-drilled discs. The seller indicates the engine was rebuilt in 2018 and corresponding documentation is available upon request. The car’s Porsche Supercup racing history is provided below:
This GT3 Cup is offered with a bill of sale.
The seller would like you to know: “A chance to own a piece of Manthey Racing and Porsche Motorsport history.”

@usacarrera - I missed your question apologies, yes it comes with a Wagenpass and a PCA logbook. This Supercup won at Indianapolis as well as having raced at Daytona. The Provenance of this Porsche is exceptional.

motor, damn spell check
@desertracer - I do not have exact hours but they are low and you can see based on usage. I have lapped the car and the engine is very snappy, transaxle does everything it is supposed to and the shocks were rebuilt undercurrent ownership. Autometrics who serviced the Porsche under previous ownership are extremely high caliber.
Getting to the party late, has the Seller confirmed hours on mother and gearbox???
can we get a definitive hour count on engine and gearbox and suspension components? or we'll have to assume all need refresh/replace.

@uscarrera - Yes the Manthey Cup was invited to both race and display at the Rennsport 7. I added some great photos from the event to the gallery!
@uscarrera - No Macrolon side windows accompany the sale of the car.
Hello, Are you able to provide a wide photo of the rear parcel shelf(area directly behind the seats) in a wide format to show if there is any wrinkling from prior use? Also shots of that area from within the engine bay? Thank you.

Greetings from Monterey Car Week! Apologies for the delay in replies as there are quite a few distractions here. The Porsche was maintained under previous ownership by Autometrics in Charleston S. Carolina and you can view all available maintenance records in the gallery. I will endeavor to get the hours on major components as well as scaling the Supercup.
@Stunt_Road Beautiful car; but you haven't really answered the question(s). A prospective buyer with interest in campaigning the car, say in PCA Club racing or SVRA vintage, would need accurate info on the engine and drive train (tranny, etc.). Was the engine sent to Porsche Motor Sport for renewal and sealed by Porsche for re-install? How many hours since refresh (and by who)?
For a collector this may not be important. But for anyone looking to race the car it's critical data.
Thanks.
@Stunt_Road
How many hours on the components?
What is the current weight of the car?
Any race log books?
Wanted to get bidding started. Questions, do you have the Wagenpass? Was car ever retubed?

Bid in the amount of $40,000
@henryr - If you read the bio the Porsche was raced recently at Rennsport 7. Everything was refreshed for this prestigious event. Everything current and nothing expired.
how many hours on various components? no longer race ready? what has expired?
Isn’t the car already in the US? It says location: CA
What are the current engine and transmission hours?
Also any idea what import to US would be for a non street car. I image it should be easier than a street car since it won't be registered, but Im curious if the same taxes would apply.
