Based on the 911 Turbo, the 996 GT2 was introduced as the most powerful high-performance 911 yet featuring a twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine sending power to the rear wheels. It came equipped with unique aerodynamic bodywork, lightweight carbon ceramic brakes, and a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. This German-market 2002 example is finished in Guards Red over a Black interior and is reportedly one of only 72 cars factory-equipped with the optional Clubsport Package which adds track-focused accessories including a roll cage, cloth bucket seats, racing harnesses, fire extinguisher, and a battery cutoff switch. It is said to have been cared for by two prior owners in Germany before being imported to Italy by a collector in 2022. Recently certified by Porsche Classic Italia, this rare Guards Red GT2 Clubsport is now being offered for auction with approximately 47k kilometers (29k miles) showing on the odometer.

Adapted from the contemporary 911 Turbo, the 996 GT2’s bodywork features a modified nose section with reshaped air intakes, a larger lip spoiler, and additional vent slits to extract air from the radiators. At the rear, a large manually adjustable spoiler is fixed into position on the engine lid. This example is finished in Guards Red with yellow brake calipers mounted behind factory 18” Turbo monobloc wheels in silver. The tires show production date codes from 2022 and reportedly have about 90% tread remaining. The seller notes one door was previously refinished and a layer of spray-on paint protection film was applied in 2023. Some imperfections are noted on the plastic lower front spoiler and radiators. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings.

 

Inside, this GT2 features a pair of black cloth Recaro bucket seats included with the Clubsport Package along with Schroth racing harnesses, a fire extinguisher, a battery cutoff switch, and a full roll cage. Other equipment includes a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, power windows and mirrors, a central locking system, automatic climate control, and a Porsche CDR-22 stereo. The seller notes some swelling on the leather covering the driver's side airbag. All accessories and electronics are said to be fully functional.

 

Derived from the 911 Turbo, the 996 GT2’s 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine received larger turbochargers and intercoolers along with a revised air intake, exhaust system, and reprogrammed software for a 10% increase in power. Up to 456 HP and 457 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power is derived from a Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system including fixed monobloc calipers with 6 pistons up front, 4 pistons in the rear, and 350mm cross-drilled discs at each corner. The suspension is lowered by 20mm compared to the 911 Turbo and fitted with adjustable components as well as stiffer springs and dampers. The seller notes that the clutch and pressure plate were recently replaced, and the car was certified for condition and originality by Porsche Classic Italia.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a service booklet, a Porsche Classic certificate, and a clean title.

 

The seller would like you to know: “It is one of only 72 996 GT2 Mk1s produced in Clubsport version. There is no official data on red cars produced but we think there are less than 5 in the world. The condition was verified by Porsche Italia which issued a document certifying total originality, absence of accidents, unchanged mileage, and excellent condition.”

    I think it is more important that it is certified by an official body. In any case, the owner can absolutely guarantee that he has never suffered an accident since he has owned it and that he is not aware of any previous accidents.

    Unlike the 997, the DME in the 996 is very archaic. Not a great gauge to decipher use and abuse given the limited info it provides. It is also fairly easy system to tamper and reset to 0 over revs. With that being said, it provides a false sense of security. A detailed PPI by a reputable shop is the only way. The Mezger is so stout, a DME is the last thing I look when considering these cars.

    @EnzosDad I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. No engine is safe from someone inadvertently selecting 2nd gear when downshifting from 6th at 130mph, for example. And a DME report would show this. An over-rev limiter is not going to help in this instance. Due to the nature of these cars, they are often tracked by novices. Only recently I walked away from a 996.1 GT3 sale because of what the DME report showed. What is important is not necessarily the amount of over-revs, but when they occurred. Independent dealers are generally happy to disregard any over-revs that happened more than 50 hours ago. Anything more recent really should be investigated further (oil and timing chain inspection, leak-down test etc.)

    @EnzosDad DME report will give you an idea of how the car was driven and it will affect the price., I totally agree that it is not a big problem. For me as a buyer I use it as a tool to see the history of the car.

    @PowerM99 Yes. Because it is less than 30 years old, you'll have to pay HRMC import duty and VAT. Import Duty will be about 3.8%. You'll then need to pay VAT at 20% of the SELL PRICE + DUTY i.e. If the sell price is $100,000, import duty would be $3,800 and VAT would be $20,760.

    Oh yes, it will cost you about $10-15K to import it and register in Florida, or better yet, Montana. Pennies when you're looking at the historical value of this work of art.

    Anyone saying he/she would be a buyer based on a DME report is lying to him/herself because these are built to run and deal with over revs without breaking a sweat. Plus where is he/she going to find another one? AutoTrader?? Peeelease.

    @skankwerks In reality the owner chose this treatment because it is much safer for the paint when removed.

    Regarding the repainting we have no certain data, the first owner had spoken of a small scratch. The Porsche Classic Certificate indicates that the car has not been involved in an accident

    Clear spray PPF would be a little tricky to remove (per your video) considering it’s clear but likely doable although there’s always a concern when removing film from repainted portions of the car.

    Speaking of which, why was the door repainted? Scratches, dents, etc? Any documentation on who did the paint work? And how long ago was the paint work done?

    @skankwerks we have just uploaded the brochure of the product that has been installed. As you can read, it has a thickness of 250 microns so you can subtract this value from what you see in the photo and you will have confirmation of the thickness of the original paint.

    Please share some info on the “spray-on PPF”. Is this peelable/removable? Who makes this product and who did the spraying? Does it come off as simple as PPF film? Any risks regarding the clear coat or the overspray around mouldings?

    ALL POTENTIAL BIDDERS: I talked to my Importer: AZ Euros (https://azeuros.com/) who is 1 of 5 RI's that are qualified and authorized to import one of these. In fact, they did a 996 GT@ clubsport at the end of 2023.
    They confirmed all the requirements and costs below are correct and the car can legally be imported to be road legal in the U.S., BUT... it will also require modification to seats, bumper, dash, roll cage, etc. that will cost approx. $35-$40k. Feel free to look them up and confirm if you don't believe me.

    Good evening,
    I apologize because I was sure that the photos were already attached. I have inserted photos of the paint inspector again but unfortunately they do not have much value because, as specified in the text, the car was totally protected with PPF spray which greatly increases the value of the paint.
    I also attach a screenshot of the overspeeds which were also verified by the Porsche Classic Center

    It is, of course, up to you if you want to provide the paint readings and overrep report and no one is trying to discourage anyone one to bid on it. It is just a tool for us bidders to determine the value of the car and any serious Porsche collectors will assume the worst when we don’t see them. And I will reflect the price people are willing to pay.

    I don’t see any paint readings in the gallery, nor a copy of the overrev report. Would you consider uploading those ?

    I also am interested in details and cost to import. I have owned a 25+ year old car which imported in only with shipping and 2.5% duties, and I have owned a newer than 25 year old car that was on the Federal Show & Display list. I did not think you can import in a car newer than 25 years old that is not on the current Show & Display list.
