Now available for auction is this rare European market 2002 Porsche 996 GT2 finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a black leather interior with Sport Seats and exclusive carbon-fiber trim. Representing the first water-cooled generation of Porsches most high-performance road-going 911, the 996 GT2 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a visceral 6-speed manual gearbox. One of the reported 1,100 examples built in total, this particular GT2 was originally configured for sale in Europe before being imported to the U.S. in 2002. Said to have been under the care of its current owner over the past 11 years while remaining up to date on all manufacturer-recommended service intervals, this 2002 example is now being offered for auction by its seller in Maryland while showing approximately 40k miles on the odometer.
The Seal Grey Metallic finish is described by the seller to be in excellent original condition, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX. The GT2 shares its wide rear fenders with the 996 Turbo and is distinguished by a large model-specific rear wing and aggressive front fascia. Yellow PCCB calipers can be seen behind the paint-matched 18” Turbo Twist wheels with optional colored Porsche center crests and Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Inside, you will find a black leather interior with 2-way adjustable Sport Seats and exclusive carbon fiber trim on the central air vent bracket, dashboard strip, and instrument surround. Other exclusive details include Porsche crested headrests, a leather ignition switch surround, and aluminum-look instrument dials. The cabin is said to be in great shape with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.
This 996 carries a 3.6 L twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine that is rated at 456 HP and 457 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission allowing for a sprint from 0-60 MPH in under 4 seconds. Standard PCCB ceramic composite brakes are equipped along with a factory lowered and stiffened suspension as well as an aftermarket GMG performance exhaust system. The factory original exhaust is said to be included and this GT2 is noted to be in fantastic driving condition while current on all scheduled maintenance.
This sale will include a clean title. An excellent investment for any collector or driving enthusiast, this European-spec GT2 is one of only a handful on U.S. roads, do not miss out on this extremely elusive opportunity.

@TMR3 996's only have Range 1 & 2; thus you are only seeing these ranges. It appears that this GT2 has been driven as it was intended. The Range 1's are common given how quickly GT2's rev; some speculate that the tach's in GT2's may have a hard time keeping-up with how fast they rev -- we have seen as many or more Range 1's on well cared for, non-tracked GT2's, with less than half the miles (also, there is a rev-limiter). Range #2's (missing a down-shift) are the primary concern and as they can be damaging; the conventional wisdom is if the car has run 50 hours afterwards the last Range 2 it's reasonable to assume the engine was not damaged (some prefer to see 100 hours) -- in this case 278 hours have passed since the last Range 2 was registered. Regarding your request; it's doubtful logistically, as the consignor is traveling and not with the car.
Dont most DME reports show all ranges even if they are 0?
I may be wrong but this seems like a healthy amount of 1 and 2 ranges? Sure it wasn't tracked? Any way to get a close up pic of front rotors with wheels off?
Bid in the amount of $95,000
@Dsgray16 The consignor has not provided maintenance records, yet located some that I submitted to Pcar last night that should be posted soon -- he reiterated that the GT2 is in excellent working order, has been maintained per recommended service intervals prior to his acquisition 11 years ago and during his ownership and will be current upon sale (as outlined in the Pcar write-up).
@ehd911 Thanks for the DME. Any updates on maintenance records?
A DME report has been added to the listing gallery.
@DCHMontclairAcura @TimThomas130 Yes; just acquired the DME report -- Pcar will post shortly. The consigner advised "...No lien on the car. I own it outright. NASA signed it off. I payed it off in 2015....".
Seller... I've seen many asking for DME report but have not seen one posted. Will this be posted prior to auction close?
Also, I noticed a lien on the title from NASA Fed CU. The letter provided does not state the lien has been satisfied and the title is not stamped with a lien release. Can you confirm that the lien has been satisfied?
Thanks
@ehd911 Ok ty.. if you can get a DME report and info on maintenance in here ASAP, that would be helpful.
@Dsgray16 Yes, the OEM exhaust is included.
I’m out. Too many questions going in answered. Good luck with the sale
Bid in the amount of $85,000
@ehd911 Last one for today.. can you share any info on maintenance history? There isnt much provided.
@ehd911 Just to confirm.. its says "the factory exhaust is said to be included"... is it, or isnt it? Thanks
@ehd911 Can you share an update on the DME report?
@ehd911 Thank you. Very helpful
@seller I see the seat pics but can you post a better picture of the driver's seat cushion? Hard to see what it looks like. Also, was there ever a roll-bar with 5 point harnesses installed in the car? The marring on the center console by the seatbelt on the passenger side looks like it was caused by a harness but could also be from a very careless passenger.
@Dsgray16 Per your request, please see this casual video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCo4AcdJtN8&t=2s
Can you get a walk around and start up video? Maybe a drive video? Would love to hear this thing. Patiently waiting for the DME report.
@ehd911 ...tracked*
@SJGM491 No indication of the car being tacked.
@vengerider @Sberger6 No issues with the windows. Please see photo#: 48, 51, 52, 53, 59, 62 and 66 that show the seats (I'll try to acquire more).
@carcraze19 Stock suspension; agree with guitarnyc1 comments that GT2's sit lower than most 911's.
@SJGM491 The clutch is original; no issues.
@SJGM491 The PCCB's are original (est. 60-65% life remaining).
@SJGM491 The GT2 is located in Baltimore MD; yes unless it sells during the auction without contingency.
@SJGM491 It's a 3 owner car (please see CarFAX) in the gallery.
Seller - are you out there??
Bid in the amount of $84,000
Seller do we know if the car was ever tracked?
@carcraze19 My 2002 GT2 sits very similar to this one, maybe a hair lower, and it has the stock suspension and about 60k miles. The 996 GT2s were lower than the other 911s from the factory.
Bid in the amount of $80,000
Seller can you post pictures of the front seats as there are none of the drivers side and only 1 of the passenger side. Also, any issues with window regulators?
I sold my Seal Grey GT2 a few years ago to a buyer in Norway. Been looking for one ever since.
Bid in the amount of $79,000
Has the suspension been lowered? It seems to sit lower on the tires than other 911’s.
These are a sweet spot for Porsche. Special 911 right here !!!!
Bid in the amount of $55,000
Seller, last question tonight is the clutch original that was serviced or is it a new clutch - if so how many miles? Thank you
Also can you comment on the discs - how many miles on current PCCB’s
And where is the car located, possible PPI?
If earlier addressed, apologies. How many owners?
@phil_c Thank you for that information.
@sportscarguy3 - Metzger engines don’t have IMS bearings
Very interesting Porsche.
Wondering if the I M S bearing is a concern with these ( this ) model Porsche
Aero kit really makes this 996 look good !
@Garage5 No issues passing MD emissions; will post pass/test in the gallery ASAP.
@faris Working on acquiring paint meter readings & DME; will post to the gallery ASAP.
@Baq The consignor advised that: The front bumper has been touched-up (will get paint meters ASAP). The coolant lines have been addressed. Current service this month with brake flush & clutch inspection.
Bid in the amount of $50,000
Is there truly a difference between a us spec and euro spec? Maybe cats? Will it pass emissions?
Hello
Do you have any paint reading pictures?
Any DME report for overrev?
Thanks
Hello,
I have a few questions:
- have the coolant lines been pinned?
- what was the last service? What has been addressed?
- when we’re the brakes last serviced?
- any paintwork? If so, where?
- when was the clutch last serviced?
Thanks
