Up for auction is this 2002 Porsche 996 GT2, one of only 305 examples ever produced for North America.  With only 41k miles, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a bespoke 3.8 L twin-turbocharged Mezger engine professionally built by Protosport Inc, it is clear that this GT2 is in a class of its own.  This example was originally delivered new to Beyers Porsche and now lives on the West Coast with its current owner.  Well-documented and well-kept, this example is being sold out of California in excellent condition.

The factory Arctic Silver finish on this GT2 is said to remain in excellent condition, completed by black vinyl graphics that run along the lower doors (removable).  Rest assured knowing that the front bumper, half fenders, and hood wear 3M paint protection film.  Detail images of the exterior along with paint meter readings are available in the photo gallery.  The 996 GT2 stands out over the regular Turbo with its enlarged fixed rear wing, more pronounced front lip, lowered ride, and large ducts on the front facia.  Keeping the car planted are a set of black finished 18” CCW wheels that wear Nitto Nt01 tires (original rims included with the sale).  These tires measure 235/40 in the front and 315/30 in the back.

Inside, you will find a black leather interior that has clearly been extremely well-kept.  Fitted with many tasteful and effective upgrades including 997 GT2 hard-back sport seats and a Daytona GT 340mm steering wheel, it is obvious that this GT2 means business.  Additional interior features include: FVD aluminum GT2 petals, factory aluminum-look gauges, GReddy Profec II EBC, factory painted center console, six-point roll bar, hidden Valentine 1 radar detector, and a tire pressure monitor.  All electronics are said to be in working order.

The heart of this beast is a fully re-engineered and larger 3.8 L twin-turbocharged Mezger engine that is said to produce an impressive 542 RWHP at .7 bar boost, 653 RWHP at 1.2 bar boost on 100 octane fuel, and an estimate of 800 RWHP at 1.7 bar boost on 116 octane racing fuel. Stated approximate horsepower figures are measured at the rear wheels, so adding 10% to those numbers will determine horsepower at the crankshaft.  In 2008, the master builders at Protosport Inc. in Pompton Plains, NJ removed the factory Mezger engine and rebuilt it with high-caliber components such a Raceware head stud kit, steel ductile liners, cylinder head O-rings, new rods, new bearings, and CP forged pistons.  Additional engine upgrades include:

  • Forced Performance HTA turbochargers
  • AP billet oil tanks and braided oil lines
  • Protomotive intercoolers and air intake
  • SPAL electric fan
  • AP headers
  • Straight pipe with resonators
  • New injectors with RSR motorsports hi-flow fuel pump
  • TiAL wastegates
  • Bailey diverter valves
  • New radiator with aluminum lines
  • Zebra screw clamps
  • Forced Performance HTA turbochargers
  • Intake plenum
  • IPD machined throttle body

This GT2 is said to be in excellent running condition with all service up-to-date.

Taking this GT2’s stellar performance to the next level is a full custom-tailored H&R suspension system, factory Porsche carbon ceramic brakes (PCCB), a 997 GT3 short shifter, ATS triple disc clutch and flywheel, steel synchros and a Racelogic traction control system.

The sale will include all factory books, original window sticker, extensive service records, records of upgrades performed, a master key, and the original Turbo twist wheels. This is an exceedingly rare opportunity to own a custom built piece of Porsche history.

@jefrank The owner had a PPI done including a DME report when he purchased the car and everything checked out. We have the receipt for the PPI, but not the inspection report itself.

I can't say if the car has been tracked or not by previous owners. The current owner has not tracked the car.

With all of these performance mods, can we assume this car was raced? If so, where and how often?

Folks were asking if the roll bar is welded-in or bolted-in. I checked with the owner, and it's bolted in.

    Hi PCM'ers,

Welcome to my 3rd auction here on PCM! Up for grabs is a very nice 2002 Porsche 996 GT2 with modifications done to take it to the next level of fast/crazy/scary/fun.

I spent several hours taking the photos and videos, and the car is in extremely nice condition.

This GT2 has been treated to a engine rebuild by Protosport in New Jersey, and it now has 3.8 liters of displacement. In the gallery, the dyno sheet notes say Off and Low - these are the power readings at different tune/boost settings; Off is 93 octane showing 542rwhp at .7 bar boost, Low is 100 octane showing 653rwhp at 1.2 bar boost and, and not shown is an estimate of High with 116 octane racing fuel producing 800rwhp at 1.7 bar boost. Those horsepower figures are measured at the rear wheels, so you can add another 10% or so to determine horsepower at the crankshaft.

I'll be around during the auction to assist with any questions. The car is on consignment through my dealership, but the transaction will be directly with the seller, facilitated by me.
