Combining an open-top driving experience with the rigidity of a coupe, the Porsche 996 Targa is among the rarest 996 models. It features a unique sliding glass roof design and is the first Porsche 911 to feature a rear-opening hatch. This 2002 example comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior and features 18” light alloy Carrera wheels with colored Porsche center crests and a rear window wiper. It is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of Washington while showing approximately 118k miles on the odometer.
This 996 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and rides on optional 18” light alloy Carrera wheels with colored Porsche center crests and Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires from 2018. The seller notes a few minor paint imperfections along the rear bumper and fenders. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the driver is situated within a black partial leather interior with optional Porsche-crested headrests and black floor mats with Porsche lettering. The seller adds that a Pioneer aftermarket radio has been installed. Some wear on the driver’s seat and door handle are noted. All gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly.
A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine provides up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH can be achieved in approximately 5.2 seconds, continuing onto an estimated top speed of 177 MPH. Stopping power is provided by fixed 4-piston brake calipers and ventilated, cross-drilled discs. The seller states there are currently no outstanding maintenance items, and the CARFAX report indicates a maintenance inspection was completed in May 2023.
This sale will include a clean title.

@nabsab1 pop the rear cover off under the rear hatch to access the targa top bits. Drill holes in those white tubes and spray silicone in them while someone else moves the top backward. That should lube up those cables nicely. Worked for me, anyhow. Could also be the targa top motors, but worth a shot via a less expensive route first.
Congrats @NabSab1
We will be in touch soon!

The thing that I don’t agree with is a 3rd party sellers. How would I know the owner won’t bid against us all!??? Or someone else attached to the dealer??? Hopefully it’s all honest bidding. Good luck all.

what does being finicky mean? Is it not sliding back all the way, moving slowly, binding? something else?
Bid in the amount of $11,500
I’d also presume that since it was the most recent owner who purchased it from said technician, that individual isn’t too far down the chain of ownership and wouldn’t be hard to track down to retrieve that answer if it were favorable.
Was interested but now not so sure after your reply about the targa roof (if it’s not working then description needs to say do) and questionable attribution about IMS status.

Uploaded a few videos of a startup, walk around, and driving.
@zamborg Hi Zamborg,
No noted or noticed leaks in the cabin during inclement weather.
@Emilio89 Hi Emilio, the Targa was working fine, but is currently being finicky so is currently inoperative.
Might be a failing motor or cables.
Are there any noted leaks in the sliding roof operation?
Is the targa roof fully operable. If possible please upload video of roof in operation. Thank you.
@Nishevran PSM was not optioned on this example and was not standard for this model year.
@TheShopClubs It's a leap over the moon to assume the IMS was replaced because the car was once owned by a Porsche tech. The tech would have followed the standard practice and put the sticker that says the IMS was replaced in the engine bay. The tech could also assume the risk of having to rebuild the engine and provide his (or her) own labor.
Does it have PSM - standard or as an option.

@Martiniman The most recent owner purchased this from a Porsche Technician who owned it from 2006-2018.
There is no record of ims/rms being completed but I would say it’s likely to have been completed if it was owned by Porsche Tech for 12 years.
Thank you for the question!

Hi, any service records or IMS/RMS upgrade work?
