Up for auction is this track prepared 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera 6-speed finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a performance-oriented Graphite Grey interior.  Purchased in its stock form by its current owner in 2017 showing 52k miles, this 996 underwent an IMS bearing upgrade prior to being outfitted with extensive performance modifications including Auto-Blip, a Mase Engineering ECU tune and a special “Track Dedicated” suspension system developed by Öhlins and Tarett engineering.  Accompanied by its own trailer and stated to be entirely street legal, this track-ready 996 is now being offered for auction in excellent running order showing approximately 60k miles on the odometer.

The Arctic Silver Metallic finish is said to be in great condition with some minor road rash on the front.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery.  Noteworthy details include removable white stripes and “Porsche” side graphics as well as dark grey alloy Turbo Twist wheels which are currently dressed in Bridgestone RE-71R tires bearing 4 days of track use.  This sale will also include the original 18” Carrera Lightweight wheels which are currently wearing Toyo Proxes tires.

Inside, the Graphite Grey interior has been optimized for performance driving with the removal of the rear seats and the addition of Sparco racing seats, 6-point harnesses and a GT3 rollbar.  The seller notes that the harnesses need to be replaced in 2021 and confirms that all necessary gauges and electrical components remain fully functional.  With an original sticker price of over $79k, this 2002 example highlights the following exclusive factory options:

  • Special Chassis Rigidly Tuned (030)
  • 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel
  • Porsche Stability Management
  • Advanced Technic Package

Uprated for the 2002 model year, this 996.2 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6 L flat-six engine rated at 320 HP stock.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission featuring an upgraded 997 GT3 shifter and Tarett Engineering solid Cup shift cables as well as an Auto-Blip Intelligent Downshifter.  Performance modifications include an IPD plenum, 82mm GT3 throttle body, X-Ost stainless steel mufflers, Top Gear high-flow 200 cell cats, a BMC air filter and a Mase Engineering ECU tune.  Under the seller’s ownership this 996 was used by Öhlins to develop their “Track Dedicated” suspension system in conjunction with Tarett Engineering.  Consisting of Öhlins “Dedicated” coil overs and Tarett sway bars, drop links and top plates, this painstakingly tuned suspension system is comparable to that of the 996 GT3.  The seller notes that this car was also pictured in Panorama for its time at Öhlins.

An L&N Engineering IMS upgrade was performed at 53k miles and the seller confirms the car to be up to date on all due maintenance with a fresh oil and filter change performed last February.  The car also features new brake rotors and EBC Yellow Stuff pads, and the seller notes that the brake fluid has been flushed consistently.  Stated to have been driven approximately 8k miles over the past 3 years, this 996 is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

The sale of this track ready 996 will include a set of two keys, original books and tools, service records, Bose sound system, a clean Carfax report and a Kaufman trailer complete with a tire rack and removable fender tie-downs.  This generously upgraded 996 offers the perfect opportunity for any driving enthusiast looking to get out on the track.

Sure seems like a lot of value in this gen 2 996. ~$5K in suspension, ~$5K in engine, ~$4k in interior safety, some stickers (which can be removed), all in a 60K chassis with the right IMSB solution and some spare parts. If I didn't have 2 996ers already, I'd be interested. GLWA!

@Jamesboyd58 The trailer could be excluded and I am open to helping with Logistics and such.

  • Jamesboyd58 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Can the trailer be excluded from the sale? And will you help with shipping? In regards to pick up logistics, not payment.

  • 4Driver4 4 years, 5 monthsago

@99Flat6 Thanks for the reply. Sounds like just the bearing was serviced, not the IMS itself (case not split).
Good choice on the Solution rather than just an upgraded roller bearing. I think that's a big plus.

@4Driver4 When we did the IMS, which was LN Engineering IMS solution, we did the clutch and the rear main seal. The deeper sump was on my list for the next engine drop along with a lightweight flywheel which I have purchased and comes with the car. Not sure about welded and balanced question to be honest.

  • 99Flat6 (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@therauf PCARMARKET asks that I not disclose that in the comments. I think its reasonable for the car. If we're close I'll consider it. - Thanks

  • 4Driver4 4 years, 5 monthsago

You mention an IMS upgrade at 53k. Welded and balanced? Anything else done while the engine was apart?
Any oiling mods like a deeper sump?

  • therauf (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

What is the reserve price so can decide if start bidding on the car?

  • 99Flat6 (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@philmor It can be adjusted to be much more comfortable with the valving and also more travel with the ride height. The ride would be like GT3, here is a link to the suspension: https://www.ohlinsusa.com/parts/1999-2004-porsche-996-gt3-auto-dedicated-pou-mu10

  • philmor (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Is the suspension upgrade suitable for regular street driving? Or is it too stiff?

The only non-functioning items or missing items is the seat air bags. The trailer was purchased in May 2018 and has dual 3500 lb. axles on leaf springs.

  • BScifers (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Listing states "...all necessary gauges and electrical components remain fully functional." What is non-functioning? Regarding the trailer, what are the axles rated and are they torsion or leaf sprung? Exciting prospect!! GLWA!
