Presented for auction is this 2002 Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500 Silver Arrow. Finished in exclusive Silver Arrow Metallic paint over two-tone Nappa leather, the SL500 Silver Arrow was offered in a limited series of 1,450 examples for the U.S. market at the conclusion of the R129 series. The Silver Arrow namesake pays homage to the iconic Mercedes W125 racing cars of the 1930s, as well as the W196R race car that won back-to-back Formula 1 driver’s championships in 1954 and 1955. Delivered new in Florida, this 2002 Silver Arrow currently resides in Massachusetts where it is now being offered for auction showing just over 66k miles on the odometer.

This limited edition SL500 is finished in Silver Arrow Metallic (777U) with a black convertible soft top and a removable painted hardtop. Special equipment includes bi-xenon headlights, an AMG aerodynamic package with a revised front spoiler and side skirts, and “Silver Arrow” badging on the front fenders. This SL500 rides on unique factory 18” Albireo two-piece alloy wheels manufactured by BBS, which are currently mounted with Falken tires showing date codes from 2015. The finish is described to be in good condition overall and the seller reports the missing trim pieces on the lower front fascia will be replaced prior to sale. The left front fender is also believed to have been previously refinished, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior showcases model-exclusive two-tone black and silver Nappa leather upholstery with special birds-eye maple wood trim. The power-adjustable and heated seats feature silver inserts and black bolsters that match the two-tone steering wheel, shifter, and door panels. Stainless steel illuminated door sills line the footwells along with drilled aluminum pedals and black mats with silver piping and “SL” logos unique to the Silver Arrow. The two-tone leather steering wheel sits ahead of a machined-turned instrument panel housing a 160-MPH speedometer, a 7k-RPM tachometer, and an analog clock along with gauges for fuel level, fuel economy, oil pressure, and coolant level. The door concealing the ashtray ahead of the gear selector features a Silver Arrow insignia with a silhouette of the Mercedes W125 race car. The seller notes minor signs of age to the leather as well as some damaged wood trim on the center console.

The SL500 Silver Arrow is powered by a 5.0L M113 all-aluminum V8 engine which was factory rated at 302 HP and 339 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to have been serviced annually since new at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships and the seller reports a scheduled B-Service to have been completed in 2019, including replacement of the mass air meter, passenger seat recognition pad, both front lower control arms, resealing of both valve covers, and a four-wheel alignment. The convertible top was also serviced in 2019 with a new main top piston, passenger side tonneau cover lock piston, and driver’s bow piston. Additionally, an oil service was completed in 2020.
