Regarded as one of the greatest sports sedans of all time, the E39 M5 was the first BMW M5 to feature a V8 engine, as well as aluminum front suspension and a multi-link rear end offering impressive handling characteristics. This 2002 example was factory-specified in Le Mans Blue Metallic over a Black leather interior and is equipped with the Heritage Leather Package as well as a 6-speed manual transmission. Originally delivered in Canada, it was later cared for in Oregon and California before being acquired by the current owner in 2022 out of Florida. Modified with a Dinan engine control unit, lowering springs, and more, this example is now being offered for auction showing approximately 70k miles on the odometer.
Compared to the standard E39 5-Series, the M5 features Shadowline trim, revised bumpers and side skirts, a trunk lid spoiler, aero mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. Finished in the uncommon shade of Le Mans Blue Metallic, this example rides on factory 18” Style 65 wheels wrapped in newer Michelin tires. Modifications include European-specification headlights, Morimoto LED fog lights, Dinan lowering springs, and gunmetal-colored powder-coated wheels. The seller notes the front bumper, fenders, and hood were refinished due to minor road wear, a new windshield was installed, and the rubber moldings were replaced. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting damage in 2005 and 2006.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Nappa leather and features fine wood trim, an Anthracite Alcantara headliner, and the Heritage Leather Package. Equipment includes M5-badged door sills, an M Sport multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control, a navigation system, an electric sunroof, and a rear window shade. Modifications include an aftermarket head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, an E60 shifter, a suede shifter boot, a suede parking brake boot, a dash cam, and full LED interior lighting. The seller states the subwoofers are currently inoperable, and minor scratches are noted in the driver’s side door jamb.
The 4.9-liter S62 V8 features double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. Factory-rated at 394 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque, it enables the M5 to accelerate from 0–60 MPH in approximately 4.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Performance upgrades include Dinan engine control unit (ECU), Dinan springs, Koni shocks, and a muffler delete. The seller states service in August 2023 included the replacement of the rear sway bar brackets and bushings, front sway bar links, and left rear window regulator, along with an oil service. Additionally, recent service is said to include a Dinan ignition service kit with new coils and plugs.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Nice example of the sought-after Le Mans Blue Metallic that shows very well. The engine runs very smoothly and strongly (DINAN ECU) and has had a recent ignition service with DINAN coils. The E60 shifter grabs gears very precisely with no shifting issues, and the car stops with zero problems with a solid brake pedal.”

@BiloSelhi It's not cracked.
Is the passenger side fine wood dash trim cracked or does it just appear that way in the picture due to the angle, etc.?

I apologize. I am genuinely interested in the vehicle, however I made an error when entering my initial bid amount. Could someone please help me correct it?
I wouldn't normally make a comment like this but; I'd almost be willing to bet the deed to my house that there is zero chance anyone will follow through paying $242k for this car.
Beautiful car. GLWTA.
@BiloSelhi ... throwing down a serious gauntlet!

Boy, I sure do like this latest bid! YOWZA, ha-ha.
@XLR82XS I have owned several E39’s. As far as I know, massage seats were only offered on the comfort seats. I don’t believe those seats were ever offered on the M5. Per @Carjunkey, what happens when you push the button? Do they work?
If so, you have a very rear option.
@Ron1999 Fuel cap I can snap another photo. PDC is working. Mirrors fold. Steering wheel controls do work with the head unit. I think it has the original amp.
@seller, any chance to add under carriage pictures as well? Rocker panels, fuel door cap.
Is the PDC working? Does the folding mirror folds as intended?
For the aftermarket head unit - does the steering wheel controls operational?
do you still use the original amp in the trunk?
S-EDC is BMW's approach to somewhat of an active suspension.
Out of all the options this car has, this would my my least favorite, nonetheless, it is very nice to see a full-option-panel E39 M5.
@XLR82XS @XLR82XS: you could just push those “seat massage” buttons to see what they do, with engine on, while sitting in the seat … :)
@Ejortega1 great question. Hopefully E39 gurus can chime in on that. Of all the E39 M5s I have owned this is the only one with that option and the 'S-EDC' sport button. Maybe they are features of units with the heritage option.
@XLR82XS and the seat option next to the heated seat button? What is that?
Thank you for the reply. If you get some time, I'd love to see some photos of it in the sun!
@z28plus I have a new center console tray that just arrived. Not sure abut carplay with the headunit as I have not connected to it.

Do you have a window sticker or option list? Does the aftermarket head unit offer CarPlay? What can be done to fix the inside of the center console?
Bid in the amount of $4,500
@Ejortega1 The sport button is the S-EDC button. Sport driving and suspension mode.
Good day. I had a nicely optioned 2002 years ago. Chiaretto car. Can you explain the option buttons on the console?. I get the heated seats, PDC, Sun Shades. There should be a sport button. Can you explain that and the rest? Am I seeing message seats? Which options are factory and which ones are not?
Thank you.
@icantaffordthis Correct, aftermarket hood grills - the car had them when I acquired it.
This looks like it also has aftermarket black kidney grills.
