Representing the third generation of BMW's iconic M5, the E39 is commonly regarded as one of the greatest sports sedans ever produced. It showcases the revered S62 V8 engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a range of luxurious amenities housed within its timeless bodywork. This one-owner 2002 example is finished in Carbon Black over Caramel Nappa leather and is equipped with the Heritage Leather Package. It is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Arizona while showing approximately 94k miles on the odometer.
This M5 is finished in Carbon Black Metallic and rides on 18” Style 65 wheels. Compared to a standard E39 5-Series, the M5 features Shadowline trim, revised bumpers and side skirts, a trunk lid spoiler, aerodynamic mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. Additional features include xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, and M5 badging on the trunk lid and side moldings. The seller notes the car has been paint-corrected and ceramic-coated, while the undercarriage benefits from dry ice cleaning and detailing. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report.
The cabin presents Caramel Nappa leather upholstery as part of the Heritage Leather Package along with fine wood trim and an Anthracite headliner. Interior details include an M-branded gear shift lever, an M Sport multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, and M5-badged door sills. Amenities include an electric sunroof, power-adjustable and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control., and an aftermarket stereo. The seller reports the driver’s seat has been redyed and shows some wear.
The E39 M5 equips a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine with double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. The S62 produces up to 394 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque, allowing the M5 to reach 60 MPH from a standstill in as little as 4.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller adds that the car has been completely serviced including a new clutch, engine tuning, oil service, and sway bar bushings.
This sale will include a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a potential mileage inconsistency on 12/22/2023.
