Representing the third iteration of BMW's iconic M5, the E39 is commonly recognized as one of the greatest sports sedans ever produced. It showcases the revered S62 V8 engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a range of luxurious amenities housed within its timeless bodywork. This two-owner 2002 example is finished in Sterling Grey Metallic over Black Nappa leather and comes accompanied by a host of service documentation. Showing less than 50k miles on the odometer, it is now being offered for auction by the selling dealer out of Michigan.
This M5 is finished in Sterling Grey Metallic and rides on 18” Style 65 wheels. Compared to a standard E39 5-Series, the M5 features Shadowline trim and revised bumpers, side skirts, a trunk lid spoiler, aerodynamic mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. Additional features include xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, and M5 badging on the trunk lid and side moldings. A set of Dinan front air vents have been fitted and the car rides on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from 2011. The seller notes an approximate 2”-long paint scratch, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin presents Black Nappa leather upholstery, fine wood trim, an Anthracite Alcantara headliner, and the Heritage Leather Package. Interior details include an M-branded gear shift lever, an M Sport multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, and M5-badged door sills. Amenities include an electric sunroof, power-adjustable and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control, a navigation system, and a BMW Individual Audio System.
The E39 M5 equips a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine with double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. The S62 produced up to 394 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque when new and allowed the M5 to reach 60 MPH from a standstill in as little as 4.8 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller adds that a new OEM clutch was installed at approximately 47k miles, and a host of detailed service records will accompany the sale. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title, four keys, and a car cover.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for clicking on this beautiful M5! We are honored to represent it here and hope it goes to a good home. It is one of the cleanest, lowest-mileage, and well documented E39 examples we have seen. 5.0L V8 with a 6-speed - it doesn't get much better than that. Lots of fun to be had by the next owner. Thanks again!”

@woodcrestjoe Sterling Gray Metallic. Classic BMW color.
Does the color lean towards champagne? The main pic looks more gray.

@davidfitt I think you are correct. Thanks David!
Nice looking M5. I had an '03 that I loved and regret selling.
Double check your info on the "Dinan front air vents." Dinan CAI was a carbon tube and "cone" filter that eliminated the OE airboxes (that are shown in your engine bay pics). 99% sure the air inlets you show in the front bumper are from the Active Autowerke CAI that if fully installed, mated to the OE airboxes. GLWS!
@garagekept Thanks!
@ExCR993 those photos are in the gallery
Hi, still looking for paint meter photos. Ideally, it would also be terrific to have photos of the gas filler area and rocker panels. Thanks so much!

@ExCR993 yes, asking PCAR to post these now.
Gas filler - none
Jack points and rocker panels - none
White mark was a smudge - wiped it off
Paint meter and scratch photos coming too
Hi! Can you take photos of the following?
-Gas filler area. Any corrosion in there?
-Jack points and rocker panel areas. Any rust?
-Close-up photos of the 2" scratch. Can't see it very well in the existing photos.
-Left rear seat back with the "white mark." Hard to see how deep that is.
Has the car been paint metered? Photos of the results would be ideal.
Thanks!
@WilHehman never know til you try! Hit that bid button :)
I love this car. I have its twin in 530i form, but have been exploring an upgrade. Unfortunately it’s probably too nice for my budget.
