The third and final generation of the Toyota MR2 was released in 1999 as a rear-engine convertible, equipped with an all-aluminum inline four-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This 2001 example was acquired by the seller from the original owner in 2022 and subsequently repainted in its factory color of Absolutely Red along with replacement of the convertible top. Now showing just over 4k miles on the odometer, this 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder is being offered at auction by its seller out of Illinois.
The exterior was recently refinished in its factory-specified Absolutely Red (3PO) color due to clearcoat failure of the original paint. Equipment includes a new replacement black soft top with a heated rear window, a vented engine cover, side air intakes, and color-matched power side mirrors. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory 15” wheels are mounted with original Bridgestone Potenza tires.
The interior features manually-adjustable black cloth seats with gray patterned fabric centers, black plastics, and black carpeting accented by simulated carbon-fiber trim. Equipment includes air conditioning, a factory CD stereo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, storage compartments behind the seats, a lockable glovebox, and power accessories.
The MR2 is equipped with a mid-mounted 1.8L 1ZZ-FED inline-four featuring Toyota VVT-i variable valve timing and an output of 138 HP and 127 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and the seller reports an oil change was completed in preparation for the next owner.
This sale will include a clean title and owner’s manuals.

@collectorcars thanks, I found the previous sales ad with before pictures. You did a great job!
@Trappistmonk it was sitting for a while and the heat damaged the clear coat and the top. I wanted to make the car perfect.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
I may have overlooked it, but what was the reason for a 4K mile car to need a re-paint and replacement of the convertible top. Was there hail or other damage prompting this on an almost new car?
@gbrandeis please view the videos we posted it shows top and down.
Any photos of the car with the top down? thank you.
