This 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster S comes finished in Seal Grey Metallic over Black upholstery and features a 6-speed manual transmission. Being an “S” model, this 986 Boxster equips a larger 3.2L flat-six engine, a more sport-oriented suspension setup, and an upgraded braking system. This example also equips optional 18” Sport Design wheels, the Sport Package, the Design Package, Heated Front Seats Package, and more. Showing approximately 79k miles on the odometer, this 986 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This Boxster S is finished in Seal Grey Metallic with a black convertible soft top and features optional 18” Sport Design wheels with colored Porsche center crests. It rides on 2016 Continental tires with ample tread reportedly remaining. Notable equipment includes side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and a dual-tipped central exhaust. The seller reports a dent-repair specialist addressed damage caused by the hood opening while driving under previous ownership. The front wheels are recommended for refinishing, and the driver-side headlight shows discoloration. Paint imperfections consistent with age and mileage are noted. Detailed images and a CARFAX report documenting damage in 2017 and 2024 are available in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin features a black interior with power-operated leather seats, the optional Heated Front Seats Package, and the Sport Package, which includes cruise control and a cabin wind deflector. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, while an upgraded double-din head unit with a backup camera and aftermarket amplifier has been installed. The seller notes the window regulator was recently replaced, along with the repair or a locking mechanism. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order, while some scuffs and scratches are noted, particularly around the center console area.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 3.2L flat-six engine that sends up to 250 HP to the rear wheels through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission. Compared with the standard model, the Boxster S offers more sport-oriented suspension tuning and larger brakes with red-painted four-piston monobloc calipers and cross-drilled discs. The seller states that the previous owner reported having replaced the IMS bearing, as shown in the photo gallery. Additionally, an engine oil change and transmission oil change were performed under the current ownership.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “It's honestly a great car for a first-time Porsche owner. Anyone looking to upgrade from their base Boxster or get into their first PCar would need to look no further, as this would be a great example of a car you won't be scared to drive anywhere and still enjoy the Porsche experience.”

@JoeFromJersey dang your right, i just realized today was friday the 13th lol. let me call up jason and see if he wants a boxster lol
Well, It's Friday the 13th, what can go wrong? Buying a 25 year old car... sight unseen... that came from a Copart auction out of New Jersey at that. I spoke with the owner / seller for an hour when this first got listed. He is 100% true! He's was very open and up front. I believe this S car is exactly how he has described it. I have a top price in mind, and I am probably the cheapest bidder on this site. So I'll have to see where she is in a hour and twenty minutes. Best to the seller of this Boxster.
@Weswheelw68 i appreciate the comments man. if this would be your first 986 then this car would be a good fit. this is honestly a great car for a DIYer that you would keep for a year or two to try it out and then maybe upgrade to a nicer one or a 911 once you decide if you like these type of cars. and most of the car is all original from what i can see. even when i took the door panels off to fix the lock tumbler and the window regulator it looked as if no one had ever taken the panel off before me. door still had all the white clips on and even the foam cover on the inside of the door was untouched with all the glue still in place and no tears at all. the inside of both doors looked brand new too. from my experience from working on these cars i think i can say that this car was driven and enjoyed and its obvious all the previous owners maintained it while they enjoyed it. and for he little blemishes it has such as the driver headlight being a little yellow thats an easy fix. they sell restoration kits for $30 that will fix that up. and the wheels? all they need is some paint or swap them out for something else and sell these off. frankly im surprised the wheels are even in this condition considering the condition of the rest of the car. i have a feeling someone swapped out the wheels they had on the car before they sold it since the bolts on the rear wheels are all new and have grease on them.
in the end this is a great car for someone to enjoy and make their own. someone with even the slightest idea of how to work with a wrench will do just fine with this car.
I don’t know the seller or the car, but I’ll agree with him on Copart. Over the years I’ve bought dozens of cars from them, they do range anywhere from a scrap shell to zero damage. This car was listed as “clean title” on their site, as someone posted the link before, if it was “salvage” or “for parts” it would have been noted as such. I may be bidding later, just depends, lol. Don’t really need another car, but I’ve been eying 986s for a bit now.
Bid in the amount of $4,000
@SLGold1606 i suspect the car has been up there its entire life. i have owned the car for about 4 months now since i brought it down. considering its a car from up north i was honestly surprised it had no rust anywhere underneath. ive seen what the snow and salt can do to cars from up there. exhaust is the only thing that has some corrosion on it but no major rust or leaks that i could find. suspensions also looks to be all original with no damage or corrosion from up north. car is very tight in the corners and has no squeaks. im sure the KONI suspension on it also helps with that lol. drove it doing 60 on some tight turned on ramps and the car never flinched.
sorry fort he late response as i have been busy the last few days with work and was not able to check on the auction until today. after reading over some of the comments i think i need to clear a few things up for everyone.
1. this is the first time i have ever sold a vehicle on Pcarmarket or any auction site in general. so im sorry if the information i give sounds vague or if some of the videos or photos were late or not very clear but that was not my intention. if you have a specific question comment it here and i can answer to the best of my ability.
2. this is not the first time i sell one of these cars or the first time i buy one from Copart. i have owned 10+ 986 and 996s over the years since i bought my first car. had several newer 997s as well. i was also a professional mechanic for 7 years and even had a shop that worked on Porsches regularly. some from Copart, some not. I have even done a few engine rebuilds and IMS swaps myself and i still have the first IMS i ever swapped out as a trophy in my garage. so i know these cars inside and out and know everything there is to them. so its up to you if you want to take me at my word or not since at the end of the day we are strangers and this is being sold sight unseen with just photos.
3. the reason i wont post titles online is because this is the internet. you would be surprised how easy it is for someone to forge a tittle just from a photo and then try and steal the car. trust me, ive been though this before. the title was sent to pcarmarket and they reviewed everything. car is clean tittle and has no issues.
4. the vehicle is at no reserve simply because that's what was recommended by the pcarmarket . i originally wanted to put a reserve on it but i took their advice since this is my first time selling on a site such as this. apparently that was not the right call since all of you seam to think this is a "pig in a poke" simply because there is no reserve. i can assure you its not, car is not perfect and was never described as so. it is however a good example of a boxster that can be driven without worry of getting a rock chip while hitting those back roads. the car is almost 25 years old with 80k miles. its not a low milage show car its a drive it and enjoy it car that wont care if you put 80k more miles on it. car does have a few quarks but what 20+ year old car with 80k on the clock doesn't? with that said everything on the car works just fine from the roof to the rear wing. only repairs i did was the window regulator, the key tumbler, and had a dent guy do the hood.
5. don't knock this car just because its from copart. as i mentioned before copart sells plenty of undamaged clean tittle cars there just as much as burned up Ferraris. but if a car with 2 minor accidents, and a third being a flipped up hood, from copart is not for you then that's entirely your decision.
Bid in the amount of $3,500
Look at this objectively. The car is being auctioned with NO RESERVE. The car was previously auctioned on Copart -- for parts. The owner will not post the titles, which is common on Pcarmarket. The descriptions of the prior accidents are nebulous and materially deficient. No one buys a Porsche without knowing all of the details.
I can certainly can appreciate how you want to get this 25-year-old Boxster S "on the cheap". But if you don't have time to investigate these glaring red flags, then you only have yourself to blame when you have a broken heart. Please, keep in mind, I am 100% uninvolved and know none of the parties here. I am just a Pennsylvania attorney of 40 years and a 3-time Porsche owner.
I would wait until the owner says that I am way off base, but most importantly, posts documentation to prove it. If not, be happy that you were outbid.
Bid in the amount of $2,986
How much time has this car spent in Florida as opposed to Pa and NJ?
Thanks Artdeckco, I guess I am hoping to get into a S on the cheap... and you know how that usually works out. I should know better, especially not having the skills or connections to truly sort this one out. The one thing I have been wondering about is why the second owner would sell this at a Copart auction and not a different venue?
I think I can offer a little experienced help. I owned a 2001 Boxster S, a 2004 GT3, 2018 Macan GTS. Him I was the original owner of each of these and had them optioned well. I t him racked the Boxster S at Watkins Glen about six times. The Boxster S was my favorite ... fun, fun, fun.
Frankly, I've never seen a Porsche as abused as this. Nor have I ever seen a description of the damages as nebulous as this. My best advice would be to take his car to a Porsche dealership and have it thoroughly checked and driven at speed before purchase. How is the engine compression? Is the frame still true? There are simply too many question marks.
With three accidents and numerous body blemishes, scratches, and chips, including wheels that look like hell, this Porsche may be a good investment for an auto body and engine mechanic, but for the average Joe, you are buying a pig in a poke. Please, be smart and do your homework before purchase, including a test drive and a visit to an authorized Porsche dealership.
Bid in the amount of $1,986
I can use a little "experienced" help here from you Porsche people that understand these cars? Where are all of the questions and possible concerns exposed that a new, unfamiliar buyer should be aware of regarding this Boxster? I'll do a girly bid because I'm starting to like this car. A lot of good things come out of Jersey, maybe?

@MAC21672 i have the original NJ title and also the Florida title for the car. both are clean and do not have any of the branded boxes checked. Copart also sells clean tittle cars from privet owners or dealers and not just crashed vehicles from insurance payouts. i have a 996 GT3 that i got 12 years ago from Copart with a clean tittle and no accidents with all original parts and paint. was just missing an engine that i put in myself :)
I am checking for title brands as this vehicle was once at a Copart salvage auction. Is it registered in Florida? and is anything entered into the Primary or Secondary brand boxes on the front?
@MAC21672 sorry, but i will not be putting up pictures of a title for any car onto the internet. pictures of the title were sent to the mods and they have reviewed it on their end during the application process.
Bid in the amount of $500
Please upload a current copy of the title ( Block your personal info ) Thanks
@TheVintageCarGuy I am unable to directly upload videos to the site for some reason... however i did send videos to the mods and asked them to add them here. just waiting for them to upload them.
I'm looking for my first Porsche at 68 years of youth? What do you guys think of these Copart pictures out of Jersey?

Not too bad... No?
Thanks, Joe
@996_305 Can you tell us when the necessary and obligatory video of the top operation will be uploaded. Hard to seriously consider bidding without it. Cold Start and driving video couldn't hurt either.
Bid in the amount of $250
@Rockster80 i dont have any records for the car from before i got it. Last reported service was around 69k miles and i got the car with 78k. Only had it a few months a put around 1k miles on it before i changed all the fluids. As for the IMS i only have photos the previous owner sent me of the install and nothing else. I also looked under the car and it looks like the engine has never been removed but the transmission looks like it has come out once. So with the photos and some signs of the transmission being removed i left it at that. I also checked the oil filter and filter housing and there was nothing in them to indicate an issue.
@Backmarker i posted the 2 best photos of the damage i had before i fixed the hood. There was no accident on the car it just had the hood fly open when it was driving according to the previous owner. Most of the damage poped right out by hand and i had a dent guy fix the little bends it had. Hood was never painted or had anything else done to it.

With the car being auctioned off the day after the 2024 damage was reported, will you please post a description of the accident and a copy of t your subsequent repair invoice
@ 996_305
I don't see any record of the IMS replacement as indicated in the description. Do you have a RO that you can download.
Also, service history seems to have dropped after the 60k mark, do you have service receipts after that mileage?
Thanks
car also has KONI Sport suspension on all 4 corners! one of the best handling Boxsters I have driven in a while because of it too!
