Now up for auction is this 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo presented in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Black full leather interior. Equipped with a legendary twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this 996’s performance has been taken to the next level with upgrades including a Kline 3” exhaust system, updated 997.2 intercoolers, an ECU tune and larger 350mm brakes. Also showcasing some tasteful interior and exterior modifications, this Turbo was purchased by its current owner in 2016 and has been diligently looked after ever since with just under 30k miles currently shown on the odometer. It is now being offered for auction out of Tampa, Florida accompanied by a clean title and Carfax report.
The Arctic Silver Metallic finish on this 996 is reported to be in very good overall condition with some road-going wear and minor imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The seller notes that the car was regularly detailed under their ownership with a professional full paint correction carried out within the last year. Some exterior modifications include Techart side skirts, a Rennkit electric spoiler system and custom powder-coated Acid Green brake calipers which are set behind 18” Forgestar wheels finished in Prismatic Black Chrome. These wheels come dressed in Yokohama Advan tires from 2016 which bear approximately 3600 miles of use.
The Black full leather interior is noted to have been well preserved throughout the years with only minor wear indicated on the driver’s side armrest as well as a small chip on driver’s inner door handle. The driver’s side window regulator was replaced under the current ownership along with the self-dimming rearview mirror and headlight switch. Modifications include LED interior lighting and Rennline pedals with an aluminum hinge system as well as an aftermarket Alpine double-din head unit which is paired with Focal speakers and a JL Audio amplifier. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly. Factory options listed on the $120,750 original build also include:
Widely considered as the greatest water-cooled Porsche engine of all time, this 996 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.6 L flat-six Mezger engine which is rated at 415 HP from the factory. A desirable 6-speed manual transmission distributes power to all four wheels providing for a stock 0-60 time of approximately 4 seconds. This example has also been upgraded with the following performance modifications:
The seller indicates that 3 coolant lines have been pinned, new plugs and coils have been installed and that the brake calipers were completely rebuilt with all new seals, ABS sensors and dust covers. Said to have been carefully driven and never tracked, this Turbo remains in excellent running order for its next owner. A DME report is available for reference within the photo gallery.
This sale will include a set of 2 keys (one remote fob is non-functional), owner’s books, service records and a clean title. Also included are the original intercoolers and factory shifter. Do not miss out on your chance to get behind the wheel of this nicely upgraded and well-maintained 6-speed Mezger Turbo.

@two2thehead Congrats sir! You have an email in your inbox with my contact info.
Wow. I’m very excited but didn’t think it would sell for under 60.!!!
Sold for $55,000
I am local and was able to inspect it last weekend. This is a nice car.......I mean REALLY REALLY nice! It is obvious that Rick has loved this car and has been meticulous with the maintenance and care of this TT. Whoever wins this car will be extremely happy.
Given the current bid, this car will be going to a new home.
@two2thehead - More appropriate choice of handles have not existed. Good luck folks, I'll be watching from the stands!

@rrfsbk surely you jest...right?
@harrisonhalsted I think it may be a separated solder joint on the board. I am not good with a solder iron, or I would have given it a try.
Any idea what might be making that 2nd fob inoperable or how much it would cost to fix/replace that?
@rrfsbk The IMS bearing problem does not apply to cars with the famed "Mezger" motor found in Turbos and GT variants. Only the M96/M97 motors found in "standard" 996 and 997 cars from 98 to 08 had that problem.
You may read more about IMS issues on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Intermediate_Shaft_Bearing_issue
and similarly about Mezger motors:

Was the IMS bearing replaced?
No worries on the formatting, I struggled to post a video!
The exhaust is admittedly on the aggressive side, so there is slight drone at highway speeds with windows up. However, that was a sacrifice I was willing to accept for the awesome sound when cruising with the windows down on the weekends.
The electronics you see on the passenger side are crossovers for the mids / highs. This alleviated the need to mount in the cabin, where space is limited.
The knob on the left side of the head unit is for a K40 radar detector, which is still in the car, but disconnected. All LEOs around here run laser, so it didn’t do me much good.
The rear tires are near the wear bars on the insides due to camber settings, as well as the car’s propensity to squat on acceleration, adding more camber. That said, there is plenty of meat on the outsides. If you (or any potential buyer) wished to drive the car home, I am happy to swap the tires side to side (demounting from wheels, as they are directional tires) at my expense.
I have ZERO concerns about this car going cross country, it is well maintained and ready to go as it sits. For example, while detailing the car for listing, I discovered a small amount of grease on the drivers front wheel from a small tear in the CV boot. The joint is in good shape, but a new factory boot was mounted two weeks ago. I am pretty uptight regarding maintenance!
And hats off to a fellow jeep owner. The one in the picture is a restored 1983 CJ-7. The most fun you can have driving slow...
@rhanley592 Thx Rick!
And sorry for the jacked up wall of text. Looks my formatting got lost in translation.
@rhanley592 thanks for adding the exhaust clip. Much appreciated. Sounds like a good mix of aggressive but not obnoxious (at least at idle/lower revs).
A few more questions for you:
1) Regarding the stereo equipment, I see the JL amp and the Alpine processor but what is on the side in the cardboard(?) on the left (passenger side)? Looks like another amp so are there subs tucked somewhere I’m not seeing?
2) What is the knob to the left of the head unit?
3) How are the tires and any concerns you would have with a semi cross country drive to Texas?
And I see you’re a fellow Jeep owner so you definitely have good tastes :-)
@rhanley592 Clip is at the bottom of the gallery link
I tried loading an exhaust clip through PCar photo hosting to no avail. Here is a clip of the exhaust sound:

I will try to get it out tomorrow for a run through the gears.
@rhanley592 thx for your response. I have an almost identical silver/ black 2002 highly modified 996, but over 70,000 miles. great cars!!
Bid in the amount of $34,746
I second a request for exhaust video. A driving video taking us thru the gears would be nice, too!
Owning a 2001 TURBO ,i cant say what a super car bargain this car is .Lighting fast unreal handling and such a comfortable highway cruiser . This is a $150k car out of the box and for a fraction of the initial cost you are driving one of the best sports cars out there , and the 996 is starting to appreciate . You cant loose either way . My Turbo gives me miles of smiles just rolling along the two lane black tops are a joy . Speed is neck snapping and you run out of road . All modifications here are non invasive and that Mezger super reliable, heck the turbo chargers have their own little oil sump with a drain plug , engineering is second to none .
@cerb1958 No dyno test; was looking for drivability, not highest HP. I came from motorcycle racing wherein smooth transition throttle and linear power delivery are king.
No weird lights, no faults, etc. The majority of the performance mods were done by me (New tune, Exhaust, Intercoolers). I have many pictures, as well as documentation related to those upgrades.
Rick, it looks great!! have you or previous owner had it dyno tested? if so, when, and what were the results? any lights or weird things going on, even if minor? Do you know when and where the mods were all done, and where?
@surroues I purchased with 24.9k miles, according to my records.
@unslow I have records dating back about ten years, spanning two prior owners. Please see pics toward the bottom of the gallery.
I will get a video loaded. The exhaust is not "tame", but the sound is incredible!
@rhanley592 how many miles were on the car when you purchased it?
@rhanley592, any videos of the exhaust? Would love to hear how it sounds. Any records from the previous owners?
@rhanley592 One more point of clarification: all aftermarket stereo parts (with the exception of the speakers) have been secured using velcro, so there are no holes to worry about if removed.
@bruce48127 I do not have the original wheels, but I do have the factory stereo.
Are original wheels/radio available?
