Featuring a 3.4-liter flat-six engine driving all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, this 2001 Porsche 996 Carrera 4 Coupe is the subject of a custom Safari-style build. It features a raised suspension with Flatout GR Plus coilovers, a Fister exhaust system, an FVD Bombacher X-pipe, a Safari Projek hood light pod, a DTM FiberWerkz ducktail spoiler, an OEM roof rack, a Thule roof basket, 17” Fuchsfelge wheels, a 917-style wood shift knob, and custom Carrera RS-style graphics. Benefitting from a new IMS bearing, clutch, flywheel, and rear main seal in 2023, this modified Carrera 4 is now being offered for auction out of Texas with approximately 103k miles showing on the odometer.
The 996 generation saw the last narrow-bodied Carrera 4 model, distinguished from other variants by its silver-colored brake calipers. This example is finished in Black with custom gold Carrera RS-style side stripes and a rear “Safari RS” designation. Modifications include a Projek Safari hood light pod, an OEM Porsche roof rack with a Thule Canyon basket, Rally Armor mudflaps, a DTM FiberWerkz ducktail rear spoiler, and Fuchs-style 17” Fuchsfelge wheels with Satin Aurum centers, rear spacers, and Falken WildPeak A/T Trail tires. The car is also factory-equipped with bi-xenon headlights, headlamp washers, heated power mirrors, an electric sunroof, and dual exhaust outlets. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black leather interior features heated and power-adjustable front seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, an aftermarket 917-style wood shift knob, a GT3 center console delete, and Coco floor mats. Other accessories include automatic climate control, cruise control, adjustable front seat lumbar support, driver’s seat memory, an optional aluminum handbrake lever inlay, an onboard computer, a Rennline phone mount, and a Continental stereo.
The naturally aspirated 3.4-liter M96 flat-six engine was factory-rated at 300 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. It drives all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle. The engine has been modified with a silicone intake hose, a Fister exhaust system, and an FVD Brombacher catless X-pipe. The suspension has been raised and modified with Flatout GR Plus coilovers, adjustable rear toe arms, SPL Parts sway bar end links, and a Eurowise Performance subframe drop kit. The front sway bar has been removed for off-road performance and is included in the sale. The seller indicates the IMS bearing, clutch, flywheel, rear main seal, and air/oil separator were replaced in January 2023, although an oil leak is present at the rear main seal.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, the original front sway bar, and a clean title (lien).

@szlaughlin second paragraph says “Fuchs-style” but whatever they are, they’re gorgeous!
@Damaho912 They are authentic Fuchs! At least as authentic as Fuchsfelge is, and they made the Fuchs for the factory 996 club classic that Jerry Seinfeld bought. They are NOT cheap. $1300 a corner before tires or paint!

You had me at gold Fuchs (style)!
@saiyantrainer Yes, I had a shop check it out, and they said to run it as is. It’s fairly minor, but does leave a drop or two if it sits after a hot run. Running 5W-50 oil makes it less apparent, but it is currently running liqui-moly 5W40. Just wanted to be transparent about it.
Doesn’t leak enough to go down any bars on the digital display or dipstick between oil changes, and it has been doing it for the last 4000 miles after the IMS/RMS flywheel clutch job according to the P.O. Have been monitoring it and driving it before and after the transformation into a Safari
Any further info on the oil leak?

Kudos for bringing the giraffe along for the photo shoot!
Cool build! I bet the Cayenne diesel build is super cool too! I have had a couple of CDs myself. Good luck with this auction!
Hi everyone, welcome to the auction for my Porsche 996 “Safari RS”
I started this build to make a more daily driveable 996, ready for rough roads or off road. The goal was to create what Porsche would have made if Porsche themselves issued a “911 Dakar” way back in the early 2000’s.
I also wanted to include touches of my favorite air cooled 911’s, so it had to have a ducktail, Fuchs, and Carrera subscript reminiscent of the classic 2.7 RS.
The rest of it was just creative touches designed to create a cohesive product. At home bombing down a gravel road at 80mph, or stationary at cars and coffee. so for me that meant a rally roof rack, and of course a rally light pod. The rally pod was special ordered from South Africa and to my knowledge is the only rally light pod purpose built for the 996!
I hope you enjoy what I created. I sure had a blast building it over the course of a year, and driving it for the following year- but the time has come to move on. I’m transitioning from my military career to a civilian career, and now is the time to consolidate.
I’ll still have my Safari Cayenne diesel that is set up very similarly! I have a couple pictures of the two of them together that I would be happy to share. I’m sure there will be more 911’s, including Safari 911’s in my future… perhaps even an air cooled. But first things first I have to setup for the rest of my professional life first.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions!
